Interesting trend for Scalding Tarn. Foils continue to slowly fall, but standard copies are slowly rising. This may be indicative of other high demand cards and an effect of there being a foil in every single pack. This must mean that, at least while the packs are in circulation and being opened, buying foils right now is a pretty good idea. In addition to my Tarns, I picked up two Blood Moons as well. It's really hard to pass up Foil Moons for $35...
Where are you getting foil BM for 35$? They sell for 90CAD. I know our exchange rate is *****, but it cant be that bad.
Keeping a super careful eye on eBay. Many are listed on eBay in the $40-42 range for MM3 copies, and $44-46 on tcg player. Yesterday I saw one show up at $35 and another at $38; couldn't jump fast enough.
Edit: many eBay sellers also have their listings with Best Offer options. You'll likely get rejected with a super lowball offer, but anything reasonable (usually 5-15% below list price) will be accepted.
I could be way out of line, but I have noticed some Abzan Company foils are drying up. I had a tough time finding a foil Ethersworn Canonist and in fact, CFB's Ebay store told me that they oversold it, so I had to take a refund. I couldn't find a single Shards of Alara copy and had to settle for a MM2013 one. Then I also had a super tough time finding Eternal Witness foils, especially the original printing.
Maybe it's just scarcity of the card, but I can't imagine nobody selling Shards of Alara foil Ethersworn Canonists.

Answered your own question.
It does need a reprint tho' It has limited printings (original + MM2015 only IIRC), so limited copies out there and it's in T1 Bant Eldrazi, T2 Infect, various T2 Abzan & Company decks, T3+'s like Bant Humans, etc. So a lot of demand for it whenever it can be used.
I'm not trying to bash on MtG, but if someone doesn't think Magic is going through a downfall right now from players quitting the game they have to be living under a rock. However, the segment that this is happening with is only a part of the entire player base. Casual players are largely unaffected by a poor standard except through the bad PR it generates, and modern players for the most part don't care about standard outside of how the cards from it fit into modern.
Modern prices do get impacted by the health of standard indirectly, though. Standard drives interest in Magic and the more interest in Magic the more opportunities there are for players to get introduced to alternative formats like Modern. A weak standard drops interest in the game as a whole, which leaves the market in the hands of players who are mostly already established in it.
This isnt new in the game. Its happened in the past. When Legacy was created from 1.5, Legacy cards spiked hard. Add in the RL and the availability was an issue too.
Standard will rebound, it always does. Players will always come and go for what ever reason. Some get bored, others need to free up money for other things.
Wizards knows they cant have a continually high level Standard to keep the majority interested. Standard ebbs and flows. Has its highs and lows. Once Standard comes around again, things will be fine all around. Right now things are a little out of balance, but it wont last.

The original foil EW has been a tough find for years. I was looking for some for a friend before the first reprinting and could only find 3. Then the reprint and the originals spiked some so the guy I was looking for didnt want to pay the new price. Now they are very hard to find.
I believe they changed the frequency of foils in boxes in Lorwyn or Shards.
On the topic of prices of MM3. I think the player base has learned and they all tried to jump the trend causing an earlier rise in process. The supply has not fully been found out but demand has sky rocketed. I said before 6 months before prices are back to what they were on the playable staples, now I am thinking 2-3 months. If you have not bought the cards you were waiting on falling, they already hit their floor and are going to be going back up if they have not already.
Guys please opinions on japanese cards. Lost a 3/3 creature against Japan celestial colonade. This guy played all creatures and spells in english cards, but some cards in his manabase was japanese. I dont registrated this really ( my brain say its all fine and all english to me lets attack his empty board)...and i am sure it is a Kind of legal cheating. It is not ok, but i know legal. I Hate such people. I never forget colonade normally, but with this Tricks it can happen one time in 3 years and such people take advantage of this
If I am a customer spending premium amount of dollars, I expect a premium service. Jund falls into the category of a premium deck costing more dollars than a majority of the rest of the format. I'm not getting the desired performance ratio per dollars spent out of the Jund deck because WOTC decided to make the format more diverse.
So, all five MM17 fetches keep climbing up in their prices while stock keeps decreasing.
Which is exactly as I predicted - in part. I said they would be back to their pre-spoiler price within 6 months.
We'll see, but I knew the demand would be enormous, because we have to seriously question whether it will see a standard printing at all. Either get them now, or forever hold your peace. And not just the ones you need now, but all of them, because if you want to move into a deck with whoknowswhat color in 3 years? Tough luck. I'm looking to complete my 2nd playset, and I am competing with a lot of people trying to get their first.
So theoretically if magic were to "Die" as in players go angry with wizards and stop buying packs so wizards slowing cuts prize support and stores stop hosting anything other than a $5 tournament every once in awhile, would prices even go down that much? I mean yes you would have the absolute panic sell off but most people I know don't really care about the prices, they just want to play the game. I know a lot of people that have formally quit but still keep eternal decks to will play with friends when they have the chance. Honestly if wizards announced the "End" of magic I think prices would hit what a lot of people say they "Should" be at because everyone would sell off their extra cards and hold onto their favorite decks. That being said I don't think we are near the end of Magic any time soon. Like Gost mentioned people are always saying it's the end but really that hardly accounts for a percent of the player base. It's just that the paranoid doomsayers try to tell everyone it's the end, while people who don't think anything is going to change aren't going to say anything because why point out no change (Yes I realize the game can change and the direction formats are headed can change but I mean change as in death of the game).

Everyone posting previous price trends on modern masters and thinking this set is going to follow the same trend is wrong. Everything but the fetchlands, yes will follow that trend so I can see that. The fetchlands following that trend? No way. Everyone wants/needs fetchlands, every deck just about has them. This is not going to be like the allied fetches where khans had an unlimited print run and tanked the prices to 10$ a piece back then. Now we have the unified GP coming up which will bring even more attention to modern/fetches + the fact standard is garbage right now you will see prices rise.

I agree. Stuff like Blood Moon, Goblin Guide, and Voice of Resurgence have all dropped and then stayed relatively flat. They will likely follow similar trends and take a while to climb back up. High demand cards in the rare slot (basically just fetchlands) will climb much faster, not only because people want 4, but as posted before, some people are just stocking up with extras to sit on. Moderate/high demand mythics (Lili/Goyf/Snap) will probably follow a similar trend as the fetches as the ratio of supply to demand is likely similar: less overall demand than fetches, but also less supply because of being mythic.
This isnt new in the game. Its happened in the past. When Legacy was created from 1.5, Legacy cards spiked hard. Add in the RL and the availability was an issue too.
Are you sure about that? When legacy was created, the prices for most cards were uneffected on the european market.
they began to slowly rise, but the first time cards in europe spiked was when SCG (at least i think it was scg, but i might be wrong) bought a lot of legacy staples off the european market.
Sure, prices spiked with the intrest in the usa for legacy. Before, i used to buy "expensive" cards by us vendors, because until then they were cheaper than in europe, even with shipping.
Yes I am sure. The difference is the starting price of the cards and what was considered expensive back when Legacy was started. Back when Legacy was formed players balked at having to pay $12 for a card. Heavily played duals and ONS fetches doubled over night. FOW went from a .25-.50 bulk card that players had in a shoe box under their bed or in back of their closet, all of a sudden were worth between $12-$18 (a lot for the time).
Goyfs are currently around the $90 range in card shops. I know the floor usually hits around 5-6 weeks after the set release. Do you guys expect these to go down a bit or is it time to buy now? I have enough trade credit at 2 shops and am trying to determine when to pull the trigger on a play set.
So, all five MM17 fetches keep climbing up in their prices while stock keeps decreasing. I'm hoping they'll stabilize soon and maybe drop again, as I was still waiting for prices to settle/drop on Tarn and Catacombs.
I'm keeping a careful watch on Verdant Catacombs as well. Hopefully they would drop a little bit more, at least to the 20-30 dollar range. Funny because a year ago, my playset of Verdant Catacombs were unused and just sleeping in a box. then just a few months after I sold them.. started building a GBx deck which wants the catacombs badly... so now I'm trying to buyback the catacombs that a few years ago I took for granted.

Look for cards with a wide spread. For instance, Blood Moon has the following prices:
MM17 $22.83
Chr: $32.89
8th: $35.87
9th: $37.51
Damnation:
MM17: $24.11
PLC: $45.04
Marsh Flats:
MM17: $25.74
Zen: $35.01
Wide spreads tell you the value is there, and the market will grab that value back in a hurry. The lower card price will move up to match the higher. The higher price is very much indicative of the true value, though it will dip. For instance, I'd say the true values of the cards listed above are around $28, $38 and $32 respectively.
The caveat is the demand, of course. Damnation is not widely wanted, as few decks play it as a 4-of. The demand is largely EDH, meaning they'll sell, but 1 at a time, not 3 or 4 at a time. Thus, it will take back the gap at a slower rate than Moon or Flats.
Goyfs are currently around the $90 range in card shops. I know the floor usually hits around 5-6 weeks after the set release. Do you guys expect these to go down a bit or is it time to buy now? I have enough trade credit at 2 shops and am trying to determine when to pull the trigger on a play set.
As far as Goyf is concerned, anything sub-$100 is a buy in my opinion. He'll inevitably snap back above that mark, so the sooner the better. I know my LGS got another shipment of MM17 from their distributor, so I'm still not sure what to make of the print run situation, but demand has been keeping pace with supply thus far, at least as far as fetches and the top tier mythics are concerned. For all we know, WoTC could've bumped up MM from Summer to March in order to dedicate Spring/Summer to Amonkhet/Standard and then hit us with a "surprise" second wave of MM17 around the holidays. In any case, $85 Goyfs are a steal and if I were you, I'd pick them up now (As of the time of this post, there are currently two BiT eBay listings for $80 obo).
the card itself really isn't worth the card board its printed on...does it serve a purpose? Sure its a blue 1 drop that might not be a 1/1. I would not put it in a list and expect to win a PTQ or GP though.
