I want to share the sentiment that if the price is prohibitive for chalice and bridge, Im not shedding any tears. Though if they dont sell at all, the prices may go down over time.
the card itself really isn't worth the card board its printed on...does it serve a purpose? Sure its a blue 1 drop that might not be a 1/1. I would not put it in a list and expect to win a PTQ or GP though.

It's more the ridiculousness of an uncommon being that much, it was 18 dollars not along ago, I don't think it'll sustain its prices, it's a 4 of in the current best deck, it's definitely not a card by itself that's power level ranges on 40 dollars though

Rarity only factors into price to the degree that it affects the amount of a certain card available. It doesn't matter how rare Bauble is if there's enough demand to drive them up to 40$. "By itself" prices do not exist; you need context to even have a market.

It's artifical demand, I'm willing to gamble. They were bought out in huge numbers after the modern master signets, who can say is already claiming the prices to lowering in the European market
It went down to 40 because no one's going to buy a *****ty uncommon for 50 dollars. When it doesn't sell, sellers attempt to undercut others to get the sale.
>****ty uncommon
>4-of staple in Modern's best deck
Ok, you sold all your BGx stuff. Thanks for telling us! But some people still want to play Thoughtseize into Goyf, and now they can do that without losing to Urza's Tower. Bauble is not even as expensive as some of the other cards in the deck. What's to gain from bringing your emotions to the table?
Does anyone else find it slightly disheartening that as soon as the card list for MM3 was known, the expensive cards that didn't get a reprint immediately jump in price, some by as much as 30-50%? I get it, people like to make money, but it almost negates the purpose of MM sets. Where prices go down, you have other staples rise up sharply. Your net gain expense wise to get into the format is almost non-existent. The fetches help overall though, so I'm glad those got a reprint being the foundation to the format. All other format staples that didn't get a reprint... wow. Also, Chalice of the void just REEKS of insider trading. MM set a month away, and the price spikes nearly 50%? Hmm.
Either way, drafts are going to be so fun with MM3 - can't wait.
No, I don't find basic economics disheartening.
Pretty snarky, but the fact that you said that leads me to believe you don't know enough about "basic economics". Carry on.

People see that they aren't in MM and assume the demand will increase as players scramble to get the cards before supply dries up, so they buy the cards out and cause actual supply issues. Am I missing something?

Yeah, at least a portion of the Chalice demand was legitimate since folks were expecting Cheerios to breakout as a tier 1 deck. However, I do believe "insider trading" within the secondary market is a real phenomenon. There is so much money to be made that I'd be shocked to find out insider trading didn't regularly occur. A lot of these folks are in the same circles and it'd be naive to think that information didn't get passed around with a wink and a nod. Assuming the Glassdoor reviews of WoTC are from actual employees, could you blame some random intern or a dude working on the printing press if they slipped some information to their buddy at, say, SCG? Considering that the secondary market is essentially an unregulated mini-stock market, that kind of information would literally be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. If there's money to be made, then someone will find a way to exploit the system; it's something that has been proven true time and time again.

Does the scarcity of Mishra's Bauble mean that there will be an increase in price? Did it go up to $50 only because of it not being in MM17 and then go back down once people started selling their copies? Would now be a good time to sell them?

It's probably as high as it will go, it may see a reprint in something or other, something from DSJ might get banned, who knows. If you aren't planning on playing with them, there's very little downside to selling them right now.

No, it went up because it's the toughest card in DSJ to find right now, despite being an uncommon in a super crappy, underdrafted, and underopened set - Coldsnap. I played during that time. I bought a lot of Mishra's Bauble because I thought it was a "free" spell. I also bought a lot of Urza's Bauble, Street Wraith, and Edge of Autumn for the same reason. Many, many years later, I was able to sell Mishra's Bauble for $8 a pop because I was scared that they would go down. I'm pretty sure that other players hoarded the card as well since Bauble is a type that some players just love or adore. So, the supply was low. There's probably gobs and gobs of packs that are unopened from Coldsnap, as it was one of the *****tiest draft environments of all time. (at least that I personally played in)
It is going down because players realized that you have to play well to win with DSJ, their meta may have adjusted to it, and there's just more copies in circulation instead of the safe of many neckbeards. Right now is an excellent time to dump them. They will not go up more. This is most certainly the ceiling. But everyone has been wrong before, or else I wouldn't have to have a day time job to support my family.

idk, i think there's buyouts going on. i sold a chalice for 40 on ebay a little over a month ago and some big ebay store bought it off of me. like, over 10,000 feedback, thousands of items for sale in their shops. i've also had stuff like runed halo/basilisk collar and other cards get purchased by "channel fireball" type of stores. i mean i guess maybe someone wanted it for personal use but who knows anymore.
Yeah it very well could be. It's just always incredibly risky to do buyouts. You have to not miss the timing on dumping them as well, so if you see a seller dump a bunch, then maybe they did it. There's really nothing wrong with buying cards out. Identifying a card as underpriced, like Nourishing Shoal or something else, takes some fortitude and the capital to buy them.
Someone watches Death's Shadow on stream identifies it as the next go to deck and go to card. Then goes to all of the stores and buys them out. Definitely could happen and has happened before. It's always a gutsy proposition though and doesn't always work out well.

DSJ takes a surprising amount of reps to understand, it's definitely a lot less pick up and play than regular Jund or colorless Eldrazi. If you sold that many baubles I think you made out fine, you made a profit
Once Arid Mesa and Goblin Guide were confirmed as reprints in MM3, that left Eidolon as the most likely speculation target, seeing as the pre-MM17 prices of Mesa and Guide were keeping people from entering the format with a fairly 'easy' deck like Burn.
It spiked a little bit but has since dropped down to its normal price again.
there is a HUGE spike in merchant scroll. Can someone explain it to me? Mishra's bauble i can get it as it is hevily played, but this...
Gifts storm runs 4, and gifts got reprinted.
a LOT of sellers have been disconnected from TCGplayer... due to some system errors... all the price spikes you see are false right now... but a LOT of people are gonna get burned....
When you see Game of Chaos spike 130%... you know something isn't right with the system... haha

Assuming this isn't just caused by the online glitch, I can't imagine it will sustain this price point. It's not a 4-of in any list I've seen, and the Storm communities I participate in run somewhere between zero and two, clustered in the 0-1 range. All it can really fetch is Gifts or your sideboard Echoing Truth, and it doesn't make your Gifts piles better unless you run two Truth. I can see it as Gifts #5-6, but that doesn't scream "Auto 4-of!" to me, or most of the community it seems.
I'd love to be wrong though; I'd happily turn some Scrolls into Tarns.

How do you figure? It started in the $4.50-$6.00 range; presently you can't find a copy under $10 on eBay or TCGPlayer. Cardshark is the only place I can find with any number in any condition or language under $9.00. And according to Goldfish, auctions for $40+ playsets are still selling on eBay.

Project Booster Fun makes it less fun to open a booster.
Coldsnap is the lowest on the chart, lower even than the 3 Kamigawa sets. I think it also demonstrates just how limited the Masters sets are, because the major rares are definitely the type to get listed, despite that its filled with 'filler' stuff. None of the other sets around it can come close to having as much pure value. That so little is listed shows the difference between unlimited and limited sets.
Since the rumors of high production are dying out, I think it's safe to say that MM17 will be similar to MM15 and EMA.
Plus, we already know that even uncommons, commons, and rares get specific print runs. So just because Fatal Push is uncommon, does not mean it is printed as much as the other uncommons. So not only do you have scarcity in packs being opened, you also have artificial scarcity in selective print runs per card (or specific cards).
