Guys, i am tired of these guys at my local FNM with there $1000 decks farming the packs that we win. I would like to at least place and get some of the packs. I figured i would start with something less expensive and work my way up. I built a goblin deck becuase i see that there is a guy who shows up with his some times and at least gets 3rd place. I would like your help to give these rich kids a run for there money.
I also need a side deck that deals with enchantment and artifact destruction. There is a guy who plays cranial plating on some creature and cant be killed. he wins every week!
The rich kids aren't always rich and sometimes pricey decks do win.
There is a reason Jund and SplinterTwin cost lots of money. MTG is part skill as well as deck and luck. There isn't much in red that can deal with enchantments (that I can think of) but it gives you access to ancient grudge - splash some stomping grounds maybe.
Learning about how each deck works is crucial too - you can't just play cards and hope to win. There is strategy (the skill part). the creature that can't be killed is probably etched champion.
IMO Goblins isn't exactly the best deck - there are so many ways to deal with aggro.
The hell rider switch could be good - the damage from turn 4 tends to hurt. That's the idea though - the faster you can get the damage in the better your chances are.
Leyline of Sanctity might be a pain to deal with - that eats up all your direct damage spells...
Bottom line really - if you aren't doing as well as you want with the deck you want to play then you should a)practice some more (cockatrice or mtgo are great for this) or b)test a new deck
It's going to make your deck more expensive, but you need to be faster. I'd put in Spike Jester and a slight black splash because with a deck like goblins trying to go long is going to make you lose. Cavern of souls would be awesome but Blackcleave cliffs could work too.
Also no Foundry Street Denizen? It's the best card in Goblins. It does so much damage I can't even begin to tell you, very few people respect it. but it's going to do work. I really like it with Mogg War Marshal which is another card I would highly suggest in your goblins deck.
I'd take out Goblin King for sure. It's slow and doesn't do much and shock kinda stinks.
The other thing you'll have to learn is that a deck like this is going to have some very strong and some very weak matchups. Lots of the top decks are expensive because they are about 50% give or take vs most other decks. Something like goblins is going to have some matchups where you are just too much too quickly, and others where you will get blown out and probably can't win. Just realize that with a strategy like this, it's pretty all in and sometimes you'll just lose.

You know, I ran a UWR Delver list 2 years ago that ran 3 sets of fetches. This was back when Scalding Tarn/Misty was $18 and Marsh Flats/Mesa was $10. My deck costed maybe a total of $400. Today it would probably be upwards of $1000. I wouldn't get too hung up on the monetary costs of things.
I agree with that right there. I worked my ass off for my cards, traded loads of stuff, and I barely have anything to show for it compared to some of you folks and I have been playing since 93.
Even in standard I used a core control deck, an old idea I had based on effective counters, removal and draw with a good finisher. It was no solar flare or grand architect or delver list but I still made it from the bottom to the top 4 in 4 weeks.
Cut the Goblin Kings for Foundry Street Denziens as Spitlebug suggested. I used to be really iffy with Denzien before I started running him in my goblin list. He is amazing and always hits for 2-3 damage each turn. Most of the time he is a better turn 1 play than goblin guide.
Vexing Devil is actually a decent card to play in the deck but I would consider running Goblin Arsonist over him. Goblin Arsonist plays nice with Grenade and will often be left unblocked if the opponent has manadorks. Some people think mogg fanatic is the better card but the ability to trigger isn't as valuable as being able to trade with x/2s and trade with two 1/1s
Cut the shocks for Mogg War Marshall or if you are set on running 12 burn spells replace it with lava spike.
Once Goblin king is removed the mana curve will be low enough to run 18 land and 2 warren instigators. Warren instigators lackey ability isn't too important for modern goblins as all of our cards are low mana cost. I play him only for his double strike ability.
