Hopefully the T16 looks a little better. Thank god that the day 2 metagame was diverse because that T8 on its own is a train wreck. Yes, T8's don't actually represent the full metagame, or its diversity, or even the best decks (especially given the size of this GP and all the variables that factor into a T8 qualification). But just analyzing the T8 on its own, oh man is it ugly.
Totally agree with this, a tad worried that the "ban pod" has already started, kinda wish the road would be more "let's find a new deck that hoses pod and has game against others" or "hope wizards will print X or Y" or some unbans, I really think this top8 kinda crushes interest in the format a bit(for me atleast), but it's the second big event after last changes, meta will adapt given time I hope. Kinda sad to not have seen more of the fringe decks come inside, what happened to merfolk that was 13-0? Kinda missed a few things here, was pretty pumped to see more variety!

Vintage nostalgic, WUB Fish control/aggro addicted.
Legacy:RUG Temur Delver
Modern: ??? undecided.
I don't think that its quite that people were scared of storm or zoo, but I don't get why people don't have serious sideboards for pod all the time every time, or do they?
Personally I really want to see those Pod decks get beaten. It was my 2 games in a row against Pod day 1 that put me out of contention for day 2. I want to see Affinity win because thats a decent match up for me and I'd love to see more people pick it up.

Can't speak for all archetypes but sometimes you don't have a whole lotta room and you believe your main somehow has good game against them anyway (it's just a bunch of creatures, just throw killmagic at them and hope the problem goes away!).
And/or you have sideboard numbers OCD and you can't fit a singleton as consequence.
I was holding out for this weekend being fishes weekend to shine. I'm surprised Merfolk didn't top 8, it'll be interesting to see where it did place though.

They do, but it barely matters. Pod's alternate game plan is just essentially GBx midrange, which is also a t1 deck. Can't really hose that.

I think the best was around...26th?
That's what I heard. We had two undefeated day 1 players doing merfolk

Current Decks:
Modern
Modern Warp / UR Control / UR Storm / Naya Breachshift / ElectroBalance
Legacy
Solidarity / Lands / Sneak and Show / Grixis Delver / Reanimator / Belcher / Storm / Dredge
That is kinda my biggest complaint against combo in general. To run combo you kinda play bad Magic. Pure combo yields things like storm, dredge and affinity in that you have super powerful decks that will win for a while but eventually get hated out. They lack diversity in their purest forms. Think a microcosmal evolution. Combo is the precursor of greatness. It lacks the ability to adapt and hence goes extinct(in a cyclical pattern since it isn't really alive of course.)
Twin is the same way. When Chapman was talking tonight about Twin players complaining that they never get to use their combo(he was joking a bit of course). But that is also the definition of meta magic. Legacy has cyclical pattern that is almost organic. Its kinda cool to watch and also encouraging to see develop in Modern as well. Remember in the lead up to Richmond, all the talk of the dominance of storm?
Dickmann's RUG Twin is a representative of the next step in Twin's evolution. It is evolving along the same lines as Pod already has.
Affinity is not a combo deck and it is definitely not a pure combo deck.
Matthias Hunt SCGLIVE a few minutes ago on Affinity: "In some ways it is a combo deck, it uses the attack step"
I hope Robots pulls it out, too. I think it'll show that it's just a meta reaction to tons of combo at Valencia, and it'll keep the reasonably fair pod decks out of harm's way

There is a deck like that already. Its tron. I'm happy to see pod do so well since it is such an easy matchup for tron players. It's the combo that stifling the deck so hopefully the amount of combo comes down a bit so Tron can be a big player again.
Is it just me or does Affinity need a nerf? It just isn't fun to play against a deck that can empty it's hand turn 1 and force you on your back seat right away.

I hate sitting across from Affinity/Robots, but I also sideboard for it aggressively. It is ridiculously easy to hate out. This will probably keep it safe.

Yeah more aggro hate! Lets have a format totally dedicated to combo!

If anything aggro decks need a boost, not a nerf.
Well, not necessarily aggro hate, just Affinity. I'm okay with Zoo and Merfolk and such.
Can I note how much I hate people who wear their hoods up, or have headphones on. Its just soooo disrespectful. Be in the game. Cheering for merfolk just because of that.
I agree a lot to that, I dislike that kind of attitude. Show some respect!

I'm allowed to disagree with him.
On another note, I really like this top 8. My pet deck crushes Pod and Affinity.

So, decks should be banned because you don''t think that they are fun? Why should other people not be able to play what they want just because you don't like their choice of deck?

But Affinity is the only aggro deck consistently topping events.

It's just you. Affinity folds up and dies to a plethora of sideboard cards. It's a large presence in virtually every Modern meta, and if you lose to it, it's your own fault for not packing the required hate. It's as negligent as walking into a Legacy tournament and not having an answer for Reanimator or Dredge.
It has some fantastic draws, but for every turn two Cranial Plating + swing for 7+ damage, there are just as many hands of 1 land, 2 zero drops, mana acceleration, and no serious threat. I've played it off and on for years. I enjoy the deck. I enjoy playing against it even more though. In the hands of a skilled pilot, it can be a problem. In the hands of most players though, I consider it a free match win.
EDIT: The only exception I'd make to those statements is B/G/x midrange, which Affinity can often eat for lunch despite mass artifact hate. It's a terrible matchup for that deck, so if you're on Jund or the Rock, I can understand your hatred for it.

This. That top 8 is wide open for Tron.
Doesn't Tron have bad Affinity and Splinter Twin matchups?
