Would it be wise to expand on the format? For example, adding 7th Edition to the pool. If there were to be cards that are obviously broken or have the potential to break something fro said set, ban list is there for it.
Hymn to Tourach or a functional equivalent of, but without the random aspect.
Rise/Fall mate.
Greetings,
Kathal
The non-land clause is a huuuuge downside to that card. Just as the non-artifact clause is a huge downside to Wrench Mind, the closest card to Hymn in modern
Removing the land clause from Rise/Fall (and instead make it to "target player discards two cards) would make it overall worse, the only reason why Hymn is so obnoxious is, cause it can randomly hit the only two lands in your hand and than you are a sitting duck.
Greetings,
Kathal

What I play or have:
Modern/Legacy
either funpolice (Delver, Deathcloud, UW Control) or the fun decks (especially those ft. Griselbrand)
7th edition. Not a reprint, just say 'this is Modern legal now'. We get Counterspell and a couple other toys, we might not need to ban anything at all, and the folks at Wizards who think Doom Blade is too good for Standard don't have to get all bent out of shape.

ugh that sounds like an absolute nightmare scenario =O
that'd be a no from me on that idea, sorry >_<

Modern: G Tron, Vannifar, Jund, Druid/Vizier combo, Humans, Eldrazi Stompy (Serum Powder), Amulet, Grishoalbrand, Breach Titan, Turns, Eternal Command, As Foretold Living End, Elves, Cheerios, RUG Scapeshift
I don’t see what 7th edition would really bring to Modern, besides of course Counterspell. And going from 7th onwards would be too awkward, if that was another option.
Perhaps if there was some kind of non-Standard cycle of sets that was brought out, with all cards available to Modern, that might work. Extremely unlikely to ever happen, but it would be nice.
Then again, all they need to do is print good stuff in Standard. There is plenty already (some of it format-warping, in fact), but notably not certain things (e.g. Counterspell), is all.

Most interested in Pillage from that set, my biased opinion as a Ponza player. Our land destruction would also be able to shatter Hollow One if 7th ed become Modern legal.
I will reiterate my support for Birchlore Ranger, Wirewood Symbiote, and Quiron Ranger in addition to Crystalline Sliver, Hibernation Sliver, and Hunter Sliver.
Oh man, I delved too deep on this thread. Some of you guys are maniacs! ("you blew it up" etc. etc. Pick your quote). The suggestions here blow my mind haha
Thank jeebus the aeons torn that we aren't collectively in control of the modern format. It'd implode into ruin on the first tournament if this thread became wrote.

I’ve long wished that Modern included every single card ever printed with a black, modern border which would include all Commander, Master, Duel Decks, etc and exclude 8th and 9th editions. And upon making such a change, doing away with the ban list for a season to see what happens and then ban cards as necessary based on how the format pans out rather than prebanning cards wusseh style.

Oh lawd that sounds bonkers
That's the sort of thing you can try at a local store for funsies. Seems really volatile and hard to maintain from a competitive format standpoint. We already know how awful no-banlist modern is from a competitive angle. This would probably ramp up the level to EXTREME!!1! which would be both hilarious and disasterous in equal measure.
But if you're keen on the idea, ask your local LGS if they'd support a league or something. Who knows, you might kick off something interesting.

Hehe, just dreaming about the good stuff. Anyway, I know WoTC would never reprint a 3 cmc land detonation spell like Pillage. Although the rumors of a Norse inspired set gave me some hope. Viking pillage after all.
Would like to repeat my appeal for Terravore. It's not fair that all other cards in it's cycle are modern legal, while it's the only one that is not.
You're not getting Counterspell, that should be clear. When you can jam Counterspell, rest assured, the truly good deckbuilders will be figuring out if and when it is close to unbeatable in a synergistic way. It has the support; it has Remand, it has Jace, Vendilion Clique, and Ancestral Vision all are allowed, and this is without dipping outside of mono-Islands. Essentially it could cold-stone/stone-cold all kinds of two-card combos that were sufficiently cheap like Vizier, whatever they turn out to be (waah, bring back Twin; in the same breath) while also instantly being the best when you attack with the best possible Quirion Dryad, and also support win with the best possible Psychatog, where Psychatog now equals a Teferi-esque card. This would not be innocuous, this would be 3x/4x stronger than Lightning Bolt. It is not reasonable to assume this. It would be a fundamental mistake like doing Swords; Swords is one more mana if it ever goes back in, like Cancel, pure exact effect equivalency in this instance. All kinds of things as near to it as possible are possible, but it exactly it isn't and won't happen. That being the case, this a good thing not a bad one, and by quite a bit.

"Warning: Um, warning. This is going to be a game state violation. And a taking extra turns and drawing extra cards violation, pretty much, a whole bunch of violations. Look at me, I'm the DCI."
The only thing I ever read here is that counterspell is too strong and could be broken in UWx control or similar. That I think can be true. But besides that, what cards exactly make it impossible to include 7th edition? I would like to see some examples, i can imagine the 1 or another but i don't think it would break modern to include 7th

Yeah, but it's really more "Disney Evil" than practical. It's like being a bond villain and giving a monologue rather then just shooting them.

Anyway, Counterspell is the no-brainer. It is what Modern needs.
Also seconding Baleful Strix - not broken, just very good. Might give some decks a little breathing room, if only for a turn or so.
And Containment Priest - something to disrupt degenerate decks of that type is only ever a good thing.

Considering the frequency of new draw/discard/graveyard cards breaking Dredge in Modern, I'm going to hazard a yes to that.

Demolish is too slow at 4 mana...
Squirrel Opposition type decks would be nice to see in Modern.
