Edit: Waaait, argothian enchantress is not on the reserved list? Wtf maaaan, I hope they reprint a functional reprint with hexproof at least someday.
But maaaaan would wild growth be awesome. Seems like an obvious one--probably a while before they print another 1 drop accelerant in standard though sadly.
I still want to see Counterspell get a printing for modern, even if it has to happen through Modern Masters and they make some rule that they can reprint strictly modern cards in that set to avoid blowing up standard.

1. (Ravnica Allegiance): You can't keep a good esper control deck down... Or Wilderness Reclamation... or Gates...
2. (War of the Spark): Guys, I know what we need! We need a cycle of really idiotic flavor text victory cards! Jace's Triumph...
3. (War of the Spark): Lets make the format with control have even more control!

I really don't want to see counterspell in modern. I would rather see counterspells that have restrictions on them be printed. Counterspell just pushes out almost all other counterspells minus cryptic from seeing any play whatsoever.

The only spells I can see counterspell truly replace would be mana leak. Combo decks would still continue to use remand because it's used more as a cantripping timewalk than an actual counterspell in those decks. Spell Snare and Dispel cost one mana which makes them worth considering still.
Modern could very well use another good interactive card and Counterspell is a known quantity for that slot.
Combo decks would use counterspell because IT PROTECTS THEIR COMBO. If it was printed you would only see Snare being used and the 1 of Cryptic.

You can stay salty.
I don't want it. Nobody needs it.
Vulgar display, Wizards. Absolutely hideous. I enjoy a nice rousing game of no fun allowed myself but this is not cool by far.
What combo decks do you think would switch to counterspell from what they're currently running?
Put it this way, why would a combo deck with blue in it not play counterspell if it was legal? Other than deprive, there is no blue counterspell at 2 mana that answers everything. The combo deck can use it to: keep themselves alive, protect the combo, etc.

Are there currently any blue combo decks that would use the card? Ad Naus sure doesn't want it. Twin would have but Twin is dead. Scapeshift would, but that shouldn't make it too much better than its tier 2 standing.

If you play Chalice, most of the time you're going to set it to 1 anyway. At first glance it seems like this makes Chalice much better than Prelate, since a Chalice on 1 costs less mana and is less easily killed. The question is, which is the bigger reason for setting Chalice on 1: because it's most effective when on 1, or because it's impractical to cast it for anything more? If it's the latter, there could be times where it's better than Chalice.
If you choose 4 with Prelate, you can stop Nahiri and Scapeshift. However, those are Bolt decks (Scapeshift less so). On 5 you stop Ad Nauseam. On 7 or 8 you stop one threat from Tron (7 doesn't stop World Breaker because it's a creature). At high CMCs it's only going to stop a few cards from the opponent's deck, which kind of makes it like a 3-mana Memoricide, with the Oblivion Ring clause, attached to a 2/2 body.
Nevertheless, there's something to be said for flexibility. A split Chalice/Memoricide lets you deal with a wide variety of decks with a minimal number of SB slots, especially when you can Chord it in.

Not remotely worried about any of those, especially the stuff that doesn't even qualify as Tier 3. I really believe CS would be totally fair in Modern; just another powerful card in a series of powerful options.
On coverage at GP Indianapolis, LSV and Huey both answered "fiction" to the question "Counterspell would be safe to print for a Modern-only set". That makes two pros (HOFers at that) who think Counterspell is not safe for Modern. Which is weird, because most people here (as well as on Twitter) think otherwise. Do they know something we don't?

At the same time they talk about how linear the format is, not everything they say makes sense. Many of the pros were also wrong about AV and Sword.
Control Magic I really feel like this would help blue the most without just being an argument for a counterspell reprint

They don't want to risk and give blue another tool while it doesn't need it. There's no point to risk anything and break format when it's doing fine. I support that statement and wouldn't let Counterspell to enter Modern.
Blue clearly needs it, there isn't a top tier deck with Blue cards aside from Blighted Agent and Distortion Strike.
And no, Jeskai wasn't anywhere near the top tables this weekend. :/
AMONKHET got revealed with Nicol Bolas as it's overlord. If there is ever a time for an innocent blood reprint... I'll take that and a busted Nicol Bolas please

Now that is a cool counterspell design! Could easily be extended to modern or just straight up printed to see if it sees play. Countering goyf and most removal spells and almost all aggro spells seems pretty legit. The ability to scale late game seems nifty.
