The normal (goodish) ways of cheating out big creatures:
Through the breach: Emrakul is superior to Jin, along with most things.
Goryo's vengeance: Griselbrand is better. Can use ability before end of turn and multiple times, resulting in game ending combos.
Unburial Rites: You probably want something like Iona rather than Jin.
Most big guys need a way of protecting themselves (hexproof/protection/iona) to be good. Jin dies to path, terminate, doom blade, gftt, dismember, etc., possibly before you even get to draw the cards. The exception is griselbrand because you can use his ability in response which is the main point to him anyway.
Jin is a no-go in modern as far as I'm concerned. In legacy there is swords to plowshares, dismember and the occasional two mana removal spell, but it also has force of will to help prevent that stuff from happening.
I could see him in a control mirror as a pseudo-Sphinx's Rev out of the board. Doesn't seem terrible, worst case scenario they Cryptic it, but you're flashing him in end of turn, so it really doesn't matter much. And if they have nothing, they bin their hand, and then its just GEE GEE MAN!

He is good in legacy reanimator because he hits turn 1-2 in a type of deck that you gotta hope they don't have an answer. Because several legacy decks are either answer decks or decks that will win if not answered. This is a must answer card. Though to my knowledge they stopped using him after Griselbrand showed up.
In modern he won't hit the field early enough to make a big enough impact and there are better choices.
I've looked at him before but the biggest problem is always protecting himself. You need to protect him for one turn to make him worthwhile, but you can't guarantee that. There aren't really any free counters in Modern like Force of Will or Daze, so it's hard to guarantee he lives. You definitely want to cheat him out, and make sure he doesn't die, which means Unburial Rites is the only reasonable plan. There's just way too many ways to interact with him so he just won't cut it. Iona is often considered better because she protects herself. Going on that, Elesh Norn or Sundering Titan are considered better as well because they generate a huge board state swing if they die, meaning you still get value afterwards.
A good choice for that Junk Rites/Solar Flare deck that you'll end up porting to Modern because won't be able to play it in Standard anymore come the end of September.

Like a slower and more methodical twist on Teachings or something?
