Execution Chamber

When Execution Chamber enters play, you lose 2 life.

Sacrifice Execution Chamber and two Swamps: Destroy target nonblack creature.
More zero-mana creature removal at instant speed seems like a good thing to me.

I really like this, also flavor wise. Seems balanced + it's a good emergency plan vs. Twin (who needs Slaughter Pact?) which is always nice

3/3
Mostly just a Watchwolf, but slightly busted with a Vial in play.
Might be too pushed.
Is the lack of flash deliberate? If so, then this is pretty good. Yes, you need vial, or Scout's Warning, or Teferi, to make it playable, but since it doesn't fit into any current tier one decks (or even tier two that I can think of), it seems fine.

Things WotC cares about:
-making certain Standard cards can be played in Modern, therefore increasing their value and increasing WotC's profit margin
Things WotC does not care about:
-keeping the ban list as short as possible
-taking chances with an entire format for the benefit of a single card
-catering to play styles that newer players generally don't like and will lose them more players than it will gain
-keeping the meta balanced between archetypes/colors/whatever
-keeping cards on the secondary market cheap (available yes, but not cheap)
-keeping the meta diverse (as long as a single deck doesn't threaten the popularity of the format)
It's deliberate, else it would be pretty broken (and wouldn't be silly at all )
I was thinking a new tool for the RUG Vial/Witness deck that has been under the radar for a while. Him and Savage Knuckleblade might give it enough toys to make it semi-viable again.

Except you have little to no mana to do anything once you stopped them from combo'ing off that turn. I dont know what you could draw to save the game. Just delaying the inevitable.

Also decent in Merfolk too.
This is actually a really good design; it's balanced and innovative. However, it's also incredibly unintuitive. Newer players would have no idea how this card worked.

I'd think if it's Turn 4 and you'd had the safety to tap out each turn until then, that you'd have your opponent on a fast clock
already.
Still, if you sac all of your lands except one, you still only need one land drop to cast your Goyfs and Bobs. Beats simply dying.

if Master Ritualist costs 1 less and can dig up a sorcery it would be much more playable, since UBR for a 0/3 does nothing for a grixis colour deck. on top of that since it wont swing for any damage the card also needs flash. if it can dig up cruel ultimatum it'll be much more useful. the other thing is convoke and protection from sorcery spells really dont help, grixis colour decks dont play many creatures to begin with and grixis colour decks probably worry more about opposing instants and creatures. maybe make your sorcery spells uncounterable? or even all sorcery spells uncounterable? so it would tutor up a sorcery spell and then make them uncounterable, like a weaker version of teferi but can tutor. just a thought.

I think this card is really, really good but still not quite as good as good ol' Bolt. It would be great in Delver Variants and gives Red some crucial removal against fatties like Goyf, Courser and Spellskite that could actually see play in the sort of decks that need it the most (Burn).

Out of all the cards I've come up with, this one is probably my favorite. It seems like a fun but ultimately useless niche card, until you realize that outside of path it's nearly unkillable, since by definition it can't take any damage. Slap a Cranial Plating on this bad boy and you have a beater that will never stop coming, plus as a Zero mana creature it opens the door for all sorts of affinity shenanigans in Modern.

Burn doesn't really need any help right now. What burn could use is a reason to diversify into more than one color: give them a reason to splash white or black.
