A lot of decks need to pass the Deathrite Shaman test. It sucks. I wish they didn't have to. I wish this card wasn't a key player in millions of competitive decks. I wish this card didn't have a chinese menu of three ridiculously delicious entrees. I wish parts of my body would stop growing curly ingrown hair. I WISH A LOT OF THINGS, BUT THE ONE I WISH THE MOST IS TO SEE DEATHRITE BURN!
I want to kill Deathrite Shaman. I want to erase him from my mind. I want to Shivan Meteor his Assquatch into the stone age. But I realize 3RR isn't exactly cost-effective, or time-effective, or even fire-and-brimstone-effective. So I want to start a thread that outlines IN CLEAR PURPLE CRAYON the ways that any innocent bystander like myself can utterly decimate this mana-stealing, sorcery-and-instant-decaying, creature-cooking 1/2 abomination.
So I'm going to make a list below. It will be grouped by color, it will be ordered by converted mana cost, and it will be ranked by a tribunal (consisting of me, myself, and I) as to aforementioned card's effectiveness at obliterating the deathrite menace.
Please feel free to comment with your suggestions. I wouldn't be here if I didn't need your help. The good suggestions will make the list. Cards will be ranked from 1 to 10, based on how good the card is in the meta and how efficiently it kills Deathrite, and no card on the list will be less than a 7. I'm not here to waste your time, people. Shivan Meteor will not make the list. What I'm here to do is help the less fortunate, myself included. It's time we take back what's rightfully ours.
I'll fill out a few of my own ideas. Please check that your card isn't included (or if it is, explain why you think it should be ranked higher/lower) before suggesting inclusions.
Dismember should be included in the black section, although it is pretty bad against certain matchups, it's really useful against twin and tarmogoyfs. Also, definitely Abrupt Decay, Lightning Helix and Electrolyze in the multicolored section. They are very good against other threats as well. I would mention Maelstrom Pulse too, because killing two of them with one card is one of the most satisfying experiences you can have against this dudes..
In red, Magma Jet and Searing Blaze are really good too. I bet if they had thought about it for a little bit and made him 0/1 or at least 1/1, we would probably all be running 4 darkblast in the 75

You forgot one of the best ways in black and green to deal with Deathrite Shaman!

Both seem pretty powerful to deny Deathrite Shamans in a reasonable way and are both not even mediocre when your opponent doesn't have a Deathrite Shaman!

This is something that I really don't understand. I get trying to push something, but c'mon, he's already pushed with all of his abilities. Slapping on an additional toughness really does reduce a lot of options for killing utility creatures like himself (that are 1/1). If he was a 1/1, he'd be way easier to handle imo.

You can try to keep up by draining its food or nuke everything, also happens to work nicely vs Goyf's. Your graveyard is off limits to them because you can pick which card you remove if you target yourself. This means they will eat up their yard very quickly if they want to keep going. Comes down on T1 which can answer their fetchland ramp.

Pathing him is a step backwords unless its really late game, so it's about a 4 on the effectiveness scale against this man. Unfortunately few mainboard answers for a lot of nonred nonblack decks are diverse enough to answer the format's other threats as well.
Ugh don't remind me. If he had 1 toughness, we'd be seeing Gut Shot making main decks as answers to Pod, Jund (eats Bob too), etc. The meta would be a lot more interesting.

There really isn't many options in colors other than black and red for efficient creature removal. Sunlance is limited but it works and path to exile can be counter intuitive early.
My favorite though is Disfigure as it kills quite a bit.

They gave him 2 toughness so that Golgari Charm didn't kill him. He was one of the flagship golgari cards and didn't want that bad interaction in limited.

I really doubt that they gave him 2 toughness so a rare wouldn't have an awkward interaction with one of the three modes of an uncommon in limited. They gave him 2 toughness to make the card as good as they possibly could.
Out of the blackness and stench of the engulfing swamp emerged a shimmering figure. Only the splattered armor and ichor-stained sword hinted at the unfathomable evil the knight had just laid waste.
I'm tempted to just put Dismember in all the categories. Beast Within, in my mind, isn't a 7/10 card, and it isn't even that good against Shaman. The decks that would play BW don't really care about Shaman, except Living End, and like you said it's not really worth it.

Pillar of Flame is also awesome in the current meta.
Stops Confi, DRS, Finks/Redcap/Melira cold and hits quite some random stuff (BTE, E1 T1 possibly T2, manadorks etc.).
I like how you mention pillar, but not the primary reason to run pillar.
