hey guys, I decided I want to try a tournament or just any competition for any prize whatsoever. Know of any Modern competitive events/venues in the Jacksonville florida area? i just want to try, so lower entry fees are a must

I think some shops should to try to draw players from other more represented shops, but they are going to have to be generous with their prize pool, because players will flock to the shop with better prizes usually regardless of the format.
Personally I would play for store credit against a reasonably priced inventory of Modern cards over Standard for packs any day, but I'm not going to shell out even $5 in a store where the selection is bad, or way overpriced.

Out of the blackness and stench of the engulfing swamp emerged a shimmering figure. Only the splattered armor and ichor-stained sword hinted at the unfathomable evil the knight had just laid waste.

I guess it hadn't crossed my mind that modern could replace/supplant Standard in a normal shop. I agree about store credit, beats packs any day at good prices

Most stores in the San Francisco Bay Area do only limited. To be honest, limited seems like a smarter business move for the store. Less barrier to entry means more players, guaranteed to sell packs, and it can be more fun for new players who always get to at least take home their drafts. I am interested to see if Modern catches on more because I don't play enough to make standard worth it. If not, I'll just stick to limited and cube.
