Good points. I was thinking about testing something with aura gnarlid, but there's no real enchantment that gives hexproof. at least for a minimal cost.
Any other ideas?
Canopy Cover is a cheap aura, but your opponent can still respond to you casting it to kill the target. If you have ramp cards, you can try to get to Privileged Position or Asceticism.
in what world is Melira tier 1? There is no meta at the moment and this week's GP will show how tiers might look like. Melira wasn't even truly tier 1 before AVR and Infect has access to Dismember anyway.
what i meant by tier 1 is that it consistently does well and plenty people play it. If its a popular deck that does well, then your odds of seeing multiples throughout the tournament brackets is considerably high meaning that your infect deck wont have infect and that makes it hard for you to do well with it.

Since when has Melira Pod not been Tier 1?

Whatever pile of 75 I throw together the night before without testing. Usually: :symb::symu::symg:
I was wondering this too. I was also confused by the "there is no meta" comment. I suppose in paper, in areas where Modern is only played during PTQ season, that might be true.
Online, though, Modern is still played a lot, and Melira Pod is Tier 1, imo.

I play in paper twice a week when I'm actually home, so I don't know where that guy is getting this from. Melira Pod doesn't really exist in my Meta, at least the last time I was there, but I know the deck is very good, because I've played it before.
Melira is Tier 1, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. It has the chance of simply Turn 3 killing you. Most often it combo's off on turn 4 or 5, and it's very resilient.

here's a link to some of the most recent MTGO results that define the current Modern meta. While the density of certain decks may change whether you're online or playing in paper, but the tiers should look much the same.
Out of the blackness and stench of the engulfing swamp emerged a shimmering figure. Only the splattered armor and ichor-stained sword hinted at the unfathomable evil the knight had just laid waste.
I actually felt playing Rancor on Modern Knights could make most of the first strike knights a real handful to deal with. Imagine Rancor enchanted on a pumped up Knight of the Reliquary. Indestructability and Trample could easily wear the best defences down.
So, rancor basically gives Infect +4/+0 and of course trample. I think it will make Infect a deck again.
Rancor doesn't really like being on Inkmoth Nexus (keeps falling off and bouncing back to hand every turn), but other than that, more midrange Infect decks may become viable. I'm sick of splashing red for Assault Strobe (better in speed builds), anyway.

Why not? One mana's not a big investment, and Rancor sure as heck loved being on Treetop Village back in the day, and that already had trample to boot.
Infect Pump has a pretty trim land count. I already found Inkmoth Nexus's upkeep cost to be annoying enough. Imagine if I have to pay 2 mana a turn for it to do anything significant.

don't confuse yourself - you're paying two mana to do one poison, or you're paying 2G to do three poison. i agree, though, that typically if you have more than 3 land in play with infect, you're doing it wrong. but rancor should be a solid addition.

Had semenulative upkeep before it was fashionable. Look what you forced me to do, Wizards! IT DIDN'T HAVE TO GO DOWN LIKE THIS!

Like I said, I can only go by my own experience, which is now 18 years. Kind of disheartening when you think you know something and you find out that you're a notch below a low grade moron.

Ah yes this is the modern format isn't it. I was thinking for standard.
There's much better options in modern.

You should go to the Modern Knights forum and talk about that. We had a small discussion there about it.

This is arguably true, although when Inkmoth Nexus can't pay for the average pump spell, Glistener Elf, counterspell, cantrip, or Noble Hierarch, it only counts for half a land at best. I guess it can pay for Blighted Agent, Ichorclaw Myr, Plague Stinger, Apostle's Blessing, and Dismember, and that's about it. (This is unlike Gavony Township, which pays for Birthing Pod, Melira, Kitchen Finks, Murderous Redcap, Chord of Calling, Ranger of Eos, Reveillark, Thalia...)
