Tempest Remastered seems like it will be fun to draft but I am wondering about the cost. For MtGO drafts of recent sets the cards I draft can be sold after the draft to bots to help offset the cost of drafting. Will this be true with Tempest Remastered?
I suspect that I would not be able to sell Tempest Remastered cards to bots, except maybe in a few cases, since if I am not mistaken a large majority these cards are not allowed in most constructed formats. If that is the case, then the net cost of drafting Tempest Remastered would be much higher than the cost of drafting a recent set.
You can play them in the formats they are legal in. For this one you can't play it in standard or modern. All other formats are open. Not sure if that answers your question or what your question was on format?
There are some major bot chains with websites. You can see the prices of the cards in the Tempest block and decide if its worth it for you price wise.
Thanks. My question was in general about the cost or EV of playing in one of these drafts. I never play Constructed and I had not realized that there are popular formats in which cards from the 1990s are legal.
In looking at one vendor bot site I see that there are a couple of dozen TE cards which are worth approx 1 ticket or more, but very few ST and EX cards worth that much (I do not know how many of those will be in TE Remastered). I will keep an eye on it to see if prices go down, considering that there will be a glut of new cards.
TRM's money cards will be Wasteland (probably will settle in the low 30s), City of Traitors (5 short term), Mox Diamond and probably a few others. Expect the cards that aren't played in any competitive constructed formats to crash hard with the reprint - something like Humility might fall to 0.5 despite being mythic as supply triples but demand stays the same.
So glad I didn't buy Wastelands when they were 120, or City of Traitors when it was 40.
EVs won't be stable at all and are really at the mercy of speculators. Will there be anyone speccing on Wasteland in a massive way, or did they all get burned badly on Lotus?

Lotus is holding pretty good considering it can only be at most a one of in vintage only. Wasteland is a 4 of in Legacy and somewhat vintage. I think you can also play it as a one of in commander? Probably other formats along those lines.
I think the best this might do is put wasteland in a $50 range within a year rather than the $100 range it seems to go to a year after being drafted.
The cards are very low in price (on par with Khans or FRF, not higher EV sets like DTK or M15). And as more packs enter the economy as payouts from Vintage and Legacy constructed events and the format's novelty wears off, there'll be increasing supply and decreasing demand.
That's when I'll buy my playset of foil Wastelands, and all the other stuff I want from the set.
If your goal is to earn value in the short term, drafting this set is a terrible idea, especially since current bots will not be paying a premium to buy Wasteland or City of Traitors with the supply increasing.
I will definitely be looking to buy both cards right before the MMA2 hype hits full, tho.
TPR Packs have held up in value longer than I expected. I was expecting them to be in the 3.3-3.5 range already (from Legacy and Vintage constructed grinders creating them)
I did one TR and that was enough. Kept getting mana screwed with 7 land. Opponents kept hitting their curve. And it's a very fast format so you "just lose" if mana screwed. The set is also not particularly fun to play. And it's not worth the $14.
Masques Remastered might be more fun, since triple-MMM wasn't the garbage format they gave us with MNP.
I've played quite a few TPR drafts over the past week, and I've found the format enjoyable. I certainly like it more than any of the KTK formats. It can be fast, but I've also played a number of grindy games. When my prize packs run out (so far, I've won enough to keep the chain going from my initial three pack investment), I'll likely stop playing it.
btw... anyone followed the last Tempest retro-drafts? Atendeance during the weekend, in prime-time?
I suspect that normal Tempest had more running drafts than Tempest Remastered. Wasteland was U, not R, so the EV of normal Tempest was +100% at moments.
I'm pretty sure the last Tempest flashback draft was Tempest-Stronghold-Exodus, and if that's what you're talking about you have it backwards. The chance of opening a Wasteland in a single pack of Tempest is roughly half that of opening one in three packs of Tempest Remastered (and that's not even taking into account the fact that a foil in Tempest Remastered takes the place of a common, whereas in Tempest it replaces its own rarity and thus does not improve your chances of anything). Your chances are better in triple Tempest, but it's only about a 50% increase on the chance of Tempest Remastered.
Odds of a Wasteland in T-S-E: 2.5%
In triple Tempest Remastered: 4.9%
In triple Tempest: 7.2%
Sealed events are still firing. They just don't happen very often. I played in one last night. When it ended, there was another still running. It had started about 2 hours after mine. Also, there is one going on as I am writing this. You just have to get lucky and have one ready to fire when you are ready to play.

This is pretty much how I feel. So far I've done 1 draft and 1 sealed. I do like it better than any of the KTK block formats. The only 2 cards I've opened that are worth more than 2 or 3 cents were Meditate and a foil Cataclysm. Luckily, I won both so I have a bunch of packs to continue on with.
I have a full set of lotus petals and 2 intuitions passed to me so far. Probably more than a full set of lotus petals but that is just what I have taken.
It's really too bad that the sets value is so abysmal outside of Wasteland. Lotus Petal is only around a tix, and Intuition is down to 2.5. Other than Wasteland, only 5 other cards are currently 3 tix or higher. Intuition is the only other card close to that 3 tix threshold.
Yeah, this was an ill-conceived cash grab from the get go.
They seriously need to make cube/flashback drafts a feature that is always present outside of release periods.
You have roughly 5 releases every year, and 3 weeks of pre-release + release events. That gives you 37 weeks where you don't have anything fresh going on, and can do flashback and cube.
We are 22 years into Magic's existence now, you have a billion opitons for flashback at this point:

Rav Block
Time SPiral Block

Modern Masters 2015

There are 20 legitimate blocks, plus VMA and 2 MMA, giving you 23 unique options that all have merit in being offered. Just shuffle those in and out. Actively change the cube to make it more interesting, and let people draft Magic's great history. If you dedicate 25 weeks a year to flashback, then you don't even have to repeat. It means you can draft each format once a year. When was the last time they offered original Ravnica block as an option? I have a feeling they didn't do it while the miserable Return to Ravnica block was out because they didn't want newer players to realize how terrible that block was for limited in comparison to the original, but still. It boggles my mind that flashback drafts aren't better supported.

If they did that, this thread would be for whinging about how low EV [random latest flashback draft] was, or else for how it was a terrible draft format. The reason they don't do equal numbers of flashbacks for every format is that not every format is equally popular, and the kinds of complaints you're making here are just as applicable to those (because, ultimately, they boil down to "I don't personally like this" which is going to be true for somebody for every format). I think you're right that they should do more flashbacks but I can't figure out why you think that's mutually exclusive with Remastered sets, for my part I see Remastered as a way to encourage them to do more flashbacks.

If there was a cube paying out Tempest Remastered packs it wouldn't be even close to the issue of EV. The problem is now is that the Boosters are selling for 4, but the contents therein aren't worth anything close to that.
And I agree, the more popular blocks should get more air time (Rise of the Eldrazi, Innistrad, Time Spiral, original Rav, Invasion), but there are very few that are just awful blocks with no replay value. And I think every old format should appear once a year for it's fans to be able to relive their favorite magic memories. And cube should just always be available, as it's just as much a part of Magic today as Standard or draft or EDH.

Yes, I think that would be interesting and helpful, thank you.

The casual player doesn't want to open obsolete junk cards and have to 2-1 a pod at minimum to win any packs... seems like a blown opportunity.

Tempest Remastered seems ill conceived when even Mercadian Masques has not been offered with packs for each of the three sets. How about Alliances?
