I left a form with 1s and 2s, except for competitiveness and customer service which I graded higher and of course I would recommend Hearthstone and not MTGO.
I would NEVER recommend Hearthstone. It's a simplistic game (and easy by some accounts) with a cartoonish look that smacks of flash games, and with a cluttered play area. Hearthstone is built entirely as a electronic only format so it does not have to mimic analog mechanics or rules, not to mention if a card is not working then all they have to do is delete it without impacting a paper game. I think it is stupid to compare MTGO (as messed up as it is) to Hearthstone. Two very different platforms.
I would recommend MTGO in theory, but I would also let them know all of the bad elements of it right now. At least MTGO has a great game that it is based on.
A start to make MTGO more accessible and interesting for new players would be to give out free phantom points every week. They could put some 5 card boosters in the pricepool of phantom events so people have a sense of progression without actually spending a lot. Making pauper interesting by making regular scheduled events again and finally banning the well known "shark cards" like cloud of faeries and grey merchant would be a start too imho.
The problem in my mind is that the monetisation system in MTGO is so heavily ingrained in everything and would be next to impossible to change without a massive backlash. When MTGO was pretty much the only option with next to no competition it worked ok, but the times have changed and they are just simply not willing to change with it. There is so much more that they could do in the digital space but we are more or less stuck with an exact mirror of paper in pretty much every way.
So I'm playing 4 Coursers in standard and of course occasionally run into the bug where the top of my library from the previous game shows up... does anyone know if this is being revealed to my opponent as well, or just to me?
Jon Loucks asked on Twitter why the tournament screen for the Pre-PTQ event was showing the event being 4 rounds when the website showed it as 5 rounds.
Lee Sharp replied that it was a client bug.
This has been around for *ages* for any event that doesn't have a top 8. It all makes so much more sense now, if they can't make the client display the correct number of rounds (I would expect that sidebar in the tournament screen is just pulled from a database table?), and this is considered a 'client bug' that wasn't fixed pretty quick, how can we expect anything else to be fixed at any kind of pace.
I mean, I'm obviously not programming the client, but can it really be *that* hard to make tournaments display the correct little block of text describing the event?
So I'm playing 4 Coursers in standard and of course occasionally run into the bug where the top of my library from the previous game shows up... does anyone know if this is being revealed to my opponent as well, or just to me?
I haven't heard that one. I have seen many many many times the bug where if your opponent at the end of a match shows you their hand its there blocking your screen on the next match. That bug is supposedly just fixed or going to get fixed with the "big release" coming up. So if they are linked it might clear up for you.
I hope you have been doing screen shots and reporting it each time.

Considering the fact that if the game ends with my opponent having a Courser, and their top card stays revealed next game, your opponent sees it too. This has been around since before V4 became the official client. Saw Chris Kiritz and Worth mention on Twitter a few weeks ago about how the "Courser bug" was fixed and I said... "Uh, no it's not, here's a screenshot" and the reply was "Not that Courser bug..." LOL.
But, the good news is, it's just cosmetic. Whatever the top card of your library was at the end of the previous game is what stays displayed on the screen during the next game. It's not actually showing your current top card.

"Fixed: If an opponent has revealed his or her hand, and then concedes, the revealed cards no longer persist for the next game"
Immediately after that downtime ended, I noticed that, lo and behold, my opponent's revealed hand still persists for the next game. So, as per usual, I mentioned it on Twitter, and Chris and Worth replied... "Most but not all instances of it were fixed."
It's a literal joke. It's to the point that it's just actually hysterical how completely and utterly incompetent the Magic Online team is.

That seeing my previous opponents hand in the next game has probably gotten me more refunds than I have gotten on everything else combined since I started playing. Yes, I still get it too.

They give refunds for that? I never thought to file reimbursement for it because it doesn't actually affect anything....

I know it's not my current top card, but it's kind of a tell if I start a new round and my opponent sees e.g. a Doomwake Giant on top of my deck. Guess I'd better start restarting Modo between every standard round.
I imagine the other Courser bug that they fixed was the one where if each player had one, it only showed one library rather than both.

If it's between rounds, I don't think your new opponent sees it. I've never started a new round with my previous opponent's top card showing.

I have. I have also accidentally hit reveal hand at the end of a match and it shows up in my next match. So my opponent gets to see the cards that were in my hand in the previous game.
"Some players who were in events when the system went down are reporting having their cards locked, preventing them from being traded. We plan to fix this issue for the affected players during the October 22 downtime."
Great work Worth. For you players who happened to be putting up with our crappy client and were playing with the system crashed, too bad, so sad. Seriously?
I mean, I'm obviously not programming the client, but can it really be *that* hard to make tournaments display the correct little block of text describing the event?
I'd need to (1) look at the code, and (2) have any clue about programming to begin with to answer, but the answer can very possibly be "yes, very." There's a lot of convoluted things that go into coding, and changing seemingly simple things can actually take a ton of work.
Not that that's an excuse for them not fixing it, of course. But "simple" fixes can actually be quite complex depending on the code.
Well, in fairness, he did say "free Magic and great people." And really, it isn't necessarily unreasonable to be willing to take lower pay if you actually like your work. Lots of people stick with their jobs because they like them even if they could go somewhere else and get paid more, or are willing to go to lower-paying jobs they might like if they don't like their job. I don't see that as unreasonable.
Though, if I'm interpreting it right, the 50% pay cut refers to his previous job paying twice as much, right? What was that job? I mean, if it was something you'd expect to pay more, the pay cut isn't necessarily that odd.\
Many people take pay cuts to be in what they consider a better situation, whether it's having a bad boss at the previous company or any of a million other reasons. I do not read his comment as a negative about anything, other than possibly his previous job.
I play it because I don't have to spend any money to keep playing. If I had to spend money to play, I would uninstall mtgo, and just quit magic all together since i'm not interested in paper.

This is where I'm at. As long as there are daily events, I don't need to actually pay to play, so I'm not quite incentivized to sell the account. They are doing their damned best, though. I only get to play Pauper 3 times a week; a couple of weeks ago when I got booted from a Pauper daily I had signed up for, I was almost on the edge of quitting. I got a quote from MTGOTraders and damn if I wasn't tempted to just sell out and buy a paper Legacy deck.
When they kill Pauper for good, I'm out. We'll see if the MTGO experience improves at all over the next few months.
I recorded my replays of a DE I joined. There's this awesome bug where the replay ends when someone gets damaged by a spell that can target multiple targets (electrolyze, forked bolt, inferno titan).
I had this sweet game where I win on a mull to 5, where my opponent resolved 4 molten rains and 3 treasure cruises. But he forked bolted me on turn 3 so I don't get to watch the rest of it.................................................................................................................................................

the drafting is a unique perk, and a 50% pay cut to do it is pretty insane, especially considering they pay below the local average
When playing for prizes on mtgo, you should have low expectations and expect the worst.
Or not play it at all, as I'm choosing to do. A product like that doesn't deserve to be supported.
