"...we will be granting every account that has logged in to Magic Online since April 2008 one each of the five M15 Prerelease objects and 35 phantom points. We will be setting up special Sealed Deck Prerelease queues over M15's first weekend that will accept one Prerelease object and 35 phantom points as entry, but which are played with real packs (you keep what you open/draft) and pay out in real prizes. So whether you'd like to take us up on an M15 Prerelease on the house, or if you want to save those phantom points for later use (Holiday Cube returns July 16, for example!), that's entirely up to you."
What seems like more value? Playing in one pre-release M15 sealed event or playing in 3.5 sealed events which are running all of the time? I know that the answer is subjective, and I am interested in reading others' views.
A benefit of playing in the pre-release is that you get to keep the cards you open, but if I'm not mistaken one pre-release event has you playing fewer games than 3.5 sealed events which are going on all of the time. What do you think about this?
It depends on if you value play experience, entertainment time, or cards more.
If you value the play experience 3.5 games of sealed is actually of no more benefit than 1 game of sealed in the long run. I mean honestly the real value of limited events is in deckbuilding, and sealed doesn't take any real skill, just evalution. You can get more experience just grabbing a random handful of unplayables and deckbuilding that. Actual sealed gameplay is only relevant experience to that set. Draft is where doing 3.5 tournaments would have significant value over 1 tournament.
If your entertainment time or value is of more importance, playing 3.5 vs 1 is a no brainer.
If you just want some free m15 cards, the M15 pre-release wins.
For me, Sealed isn't as enjoyable as I'd like it to be. The variance is too high, and I seem to only open the unplayable cards. So I don't really want to sit through 3.5 sealed tournaments, especially phantom tournaments. If the freebie was for draft I might consider it, but I suuuuck at drafting. For some reason my ADD ramps up to 11 and I try to draft 3 different decks every dang time.
Anyway, I'm playing that pre-release sealed for free. I always play 1 pre-release tournament, and since my son can't use his account right now I'll play his too just so it isn't wasted.
To get Thise pre-release is it nesecerry to join an event or do i Just recieve Them in my account?
You don't have to enter an event to receive the 35 phantom points. However, you will need to enter a prerelease queue when they become available to receive the cards.
1) Spend all 35 phantom points on a "friendly" prerelease event 4 matches and total cards received of 6 packs, 8 packs if you win 1 or 2 matches, 9 if you win 3, and 11 if you win 4 matches
2) Spend all 35 phantom points on a "competitive" prerelease event 4 matches and total cards received of 6 packs, 7 packs if you win 2 matches, 11 if you win 3, and 17 if you win 4 matches
3) Play in other phantom events such as 10 points per event for 3 matches, receiving 4 phantom points for winning 1 match, 8 phantom points for winning 2 matches, and 16 phantom points for winning 3 matches
For #3 if you alternate winning 1 or 2 matches (50% winning) then you would be able to play in approximately 9 phantom events for a total of 27 matches.
I like draft more than sealed but both are fun. If I played in the prerelease and ended up with, say 8 packs which is 2 unopened plus the 6 opened packs, that would probably mean (after selling to bots opened cards they would want) only a couple of additional events unless I was lucky in pulling mythic rares.
So for someone like me who doesn't care at all about cards (other than to sell them), option #3 seems like getting the most play although it's sealed play. If my math is off please correct me.
how do we enter pre release the pre release events I see under scheduled are only taking event tickets or packs an event tickets no option for the phantom point buy in
M15 phantom sealed will begin Aug 13. I am saving my 35 free phantom points for those which cost 10 phantom points each and you can win, I believe, 2, 4, 8, or 16 phantom points based upon how many matches you win (0, 1, 2, or 3).
What is the point of phantom points? Just a little bit of free play and that is it? Seems pretty crappy that I missed the pre release event simply because I was on vacation.....
Yes, the point of phantom points is to be able to use them to join events for phantom play. To my knowledge there are no prizes in phantom events other than more phantom points, such as winning 8 phantom points when you use 10 phantom points to join a swiss sealed event and win 2 out of 3. As it turns out, today is the first day MtGO finally has M15 phantom sealed events so I will use my 35 free phantom points on those.
I missed the prerelease, so I'm using my phantom points on sealed M15, so far I have played 3 sealed and still have +30 points left
my record is 2-1, 2-1, 3-0 so far
If you value playing to get more skilled, this is the way to go, if you are really good, you'll be getting 16points every 3-0, so infinite play
Playing is the way of getting better at this, it doesnt matter the format, just play as much as you can so eventually you will be doing the right choice at every game

(Sorry for the format fail above.)

You will be allowed to keep the cards you pull in the prerelease event, which could be meaningful to you.

Options 1 and 2 are detailed here http://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/magic-online-2015-core-set-prerelease-and-release-events-2014-06-30 while option 3 is for M14 (presumably they will have the same for M15) http://wizards.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/68/~/magic-online:-events (need to click on the M14 phantom sealed to view it).
For #3 if you alternate winning 1 or 2 matches (50% winning) then you would be able to play in approximately 9 phantom events for a total of 27 matches.

you can use phantom points to enter a cube draft when available
As far as I can tell, there aren't any phantom drafts right now.
