When you are on the game screen, click on the phases where you want the game to stop and give you priority. In this case, click to put a stop after the declare blockers phase on both your turn and your opponent's turn.
If you use the wide beta client, just under the bottom of your side of the battlefield is a list of all of the phases of a turn. Make sure the ones you want to act in have a 'stop' marked in them (your turn is the bottom, your opponent's turn is the top).

In either client, you can right-click on any phase and see toggle options for "stop on my turn" or "stop on my opponent's turn." Check these accordingly.

If you should be able to, is there a special key I need to hold or something to allow for that or...?
Any help is appreciated
