Hey ya'll, just wanted to get your experiences or opinion on this.
Now I'm somewhat noob that plays both MTGO and paper Magic. However it's pretty super casual with my friends irl, while I've been playing more of the online daily events. Obviously as you all know, the quality of play/competition is quite different. I've gotten the hang of limited events online(and have won several.) Recently a LGS has opened up near me(did not have any lgs to go to before), and I've preregistered for the M15 prerelease.
I know it's different depending on location, but do you find the online limited events to be more/less/same compared to paper in terms of quality of play/players?
I know it's all about having fun, but just wanted to get an idea.
The competition on MTGO limited is generally higher than your average LGS. The competition in the swiss queues of your average draft or regular sealed event (8 man) could be lower or higher. My LGS has 3-4 ptq grinders and a couple former grinders so the quality there is a bit higher than the swiss, but it's still lower than daily events and especially premier events.
If you're new play swiss. If that's too easy, play 8-4 or larger sealed events.

Out of the blackness and stench of the engulfing swamp emerged a shimmering figure. Only the splattered armor and ichor-stained sword hinted at the unfathomable evil the knight had just laid waste.
I find that the quality of opponent in an MTGO swiss queue is higher than any of the local LGS's that I played. The quality of 8-4 drafts are above that. If I had to put in a purely speculative "level of competition rating" I'd go:
Day 1 GP < FNM < Other LGS nights < MTGO Swiss < MTGO 8-4 < Day 2 GP
FNM and Day 1 GP I feel like you get some "free wins". When you go and draft on a Monday or Wednesday night at an LGS (at least it was my experience) you get a slightly more dedicated set of people. I remember thinking when I joined MTGO (it was my friends' experience as well) that the generally level of competency was quite good in most games, with 8-4's attracting above average to top tier talent. My experience with Day 2 GP's is limited, but from my 1st and 2nd hand knowledge I'd rate it here.
And as far as drafting goes I've heard the hardest event (harder than PT top 8 table) is the ChannelFireball PT test drafts - but I've yet to have first hand experience with that, yet

On MTGO, I was a bit above average in the 4-3-2-2 queues (this was before Swiss) and about average in 8-4s.
So if you are reasonably successful on MTGO, expect to be dominant at most LGSs.
