Oh okay I see now. If anyone has two accounts and two PC they could try it out and report back to let us know. I might since I have such things but, to lazy.
I just wanted to chime in and say that I got my own custom playmats working, but I did run into a hitch.
There was a weird issue with permissions on my PC, running windows 7. It simply wouldn't recognize changes made to the graphics, or new images added to that folder. If you covered this in your tutorial I apologize, but I thought I'd mention it here.
What I did to resolve this was I simply copied the images from the gamemat folder, and then pasted them into a brand new folder named gamemat. I deleted the original folder and images inside, and simply dragged the new gamemat folder into there. After that, it worked find.
This may be a roundabout way of fixing it, but I am pretty sure the crux of the problem is with folder permissions. This was the fastest way to get around it for me, and now it works like a charm! I was able to make a gamemat using artwork from my RL Steve Argyle playmat. Looks a lot better than green felt.

Yes. If both players have the same filename in their respective folders, that file will be shown.
However, each player will only see the version of the file that is on their system. If both players have a file called Wazoo.png, but they are different images, each player will see the Wazoo.png that resides on their own system.
You know what would be pretty hilarious? Naming your playmat me.jpg I'm sure quite a few people have pics they uploaded of themselves for whatever reason and didn't care to name them so they just named it "me". Then when you play against an opponent who HAS done this they'll see their face as your playmat!

here's a bunch of the mats i use (i change them randomly based on my mood)
all of these pics are too big for MTGS in png format, so i'm sharing them in JPG format and you can convert them on your own.
(resize them to 512x256 and set them as PNG format, then copy the names of the playmats in your folder, replace the filenames here with those names, then drag and drop into your Gamermat folder
(an example would be Global_Ruin_a.png (which i have set to the Aurora Volcano)

I'm not really sure why I'm having a problem, but I have tried several things:
First issue was with permissions, so I made a new folder with the same name, pasted all the images into it, then replaced the old folder. Problem solved there.
I created a custom playmat and saved it as filename_a.png into the wallpapers (I can actually open the folder on my computer and see my image). However, it doesn't show up on MTGO at all.
My next step was to take an image I don't like, edit it with my image onto it, then resave it as the name (I replaced the City of Spires one), however after shutting down MTGO and restarting, I have the old picture there for City of Spires.

You must have Windows 7...
Check if there's a "Compatibility Files" toolbar button in the folder and turn compatibility files on to see the "real" files.
Note: I have never done this with MODO, so IDK if it uses compatibility files. Otherwise, try making an advanced search for the file names, sometimes Win7 stores duplicate installations under your profile.
I just discovered a strange and largely irrelevant modo 3.0 bug. If you delete all of your background images, the client still works (the background looks solid black), but you won't be able to right-click on the background (to close the replay or select one of the options such as Concede Game or Undo in live games). Fortunately you can still right click a card image when they are on the battlefield and that will still bring up the panel of options. It seems like the event listener or whatever equivalent code they use to handle a right click depends on there being a specific kind of object at the point you are clicking, and not loading a background screws that up.
I saved over the other mtgo mats with the GokuVegeta so both would show at the same time no matter what my opponent choose (you could copy the mtgo mats then rename them if u want to keep the std mats)
Exactly, man some of their art for those playmats is hideous, get on it Wizards.

I found a way around the permissions and not being able to edit the gamemat folder here is what you're going to do.
Right-click the file or folder,
click Properties, and then click the Security tab.
2. Click Advanced, and then click the Owner tab.
Now here is the hard part scroll to your user click on advance change permssions and chose full control and you're done.
