Who thinks pauper modern might just be a new great version of pauper? The only cards banned would be the 5 artifact lands, to follow in the lines of regular modern.
A lot of annoying decks become weakened or unplayable like Frantic Storm, TPPS, goblins, and affinity. Plus it has the added bonus of being easy to identify a card's rarity, since everything uses the new card borders.
Now that Modern is officially a format, who thinks that Modern Pauper will also become a format! A great way to use all of your spare common cards from Mirrodin and onwards.
Just like regular modern, it is probably a bit overdone, but regardless I think this will be a very interesting format. It is much different from pauper classic, perhaps even more-so than modern is from legacy.
For those of you who do not have MTGO, who would like to play this format on cockatrice or something? We should get a playgroup going.
I am curious about your use of Burn the Impure. Were you expecting a lot of infect decks, because it just seems like a weaker version of Lightning Bolt otherwise.
I've played in both Modern PDC events so far, and this week I made top 4 after going 3-1 in the swiss with a slightly better-tuned mono-black list than I had the first week:
I think the format's not really having any board sweepers to punish mono-white for overextending (no Crypt Rats for black, Martyr of Ashes only hitting non-flyers, etc.) makes white a pretty good choice. You might lose to something like Freed combo due to the lack of instant answers (Unmake I guess) and you might get out-valued by something like Cogs, but it still seems quite strong.

It seems like the format is very friendly to midrange strategies, which is a good thing I hope. I'm glad that combo is not such a big contender, unlike in actual modern.
I'm curious if Kor Skyfisher and Mystical Teachings really warrant the ban though. And cloudpost - UR post loses a lot of power, but Green post does still seem like a strong deck. Keep in mind it is only 8post, and not 12post like in big daddy modern.

Well at first i was expecting alot of monogreen infect but ended up seeing lots of rogue decks which in the end i manage to handle adequately.
Would have placed flame slash instead if i knew there would be so many fatties around my area.
Considering the newly banned cards for modern, would a pauper modern banned list simply consist of any common banned in modern and any card banned in classic pauper?
I know the MTGO banned list is a bit different, but that was created before the recent bannings. Empty the warrens decks have weakened significantly with the latest bannings, and that leaves skyfisher and mystical teachings.
I don't think the Modern banlist should apply to Modern Pauper. There's no real reason to ban artifact lands if Plating is banned, and Atog isn't in the format anyway. There's no reason to ban Rite of Flame if Empty the Warrens is banned (and ETW SHOULD be banned!) because there's no other way to truly break Rite in Modern. The same goes for Ponder and Preordain.
Cloudpost, on the other hand, I'm not sure of. UR Post is a very good deck, but the free 10+ life from Glimmerpost just straight up trumps a lot of strategies.
I agree with you guys. Pauper Modern should have a different banned list than modern.
Here's what I am thinking:
Cranial Plating (affinity isn't as good without common Atog, but still viable) Cloudpost (not completely sure, but lands are quite difficult to stop) Empty the Warrens (The storm decks in classic are so hated, it's best not to let them live in this format)
Nothing else strikes me as being ban-worthy. Maybe affinity will get too strong but there's no need to be too preemptive.
I understand why MTGO needs to use the modern + pauper banned lists together, but if it's not for MTGO there is no need to do this.
Am I missing something? According to THIS there is no ban or restricted list for pauper modern. Theres one for Modern and another one for Pauper. I don't know why your discussing a format that isn't MTGO supported.

why is sky fisher on their banned list? actually i suppose it is banable. abuse of etb with momentary blink, and undying evil, and skyfishing is pretty ridic.
teachings? it's fair once you've already banned the mana engine of the posts.

It sounds like a cool format to me
I would personally enjoy it, except the power lever decreases a lot! No Brainstorm / Dark Ritual / Invasion Double Lands / Goblins.
I reckon the format is healthy as it is.
Maybe you could get away with just banning Cranial Plating again, since Atog won't be in the format.
Currently my local shop is applying that to weekly pauper games using modern fo
On the pauper magic homepage, modern pauper is going to become a real deal.
Here's the starting banned list:

the UR post deck is ridiculous. it's like all people run on modo lol

It is not as popular, yet, as Classic pauper, but that is because it has just started really.
