Heres the deck list I made last night and am having a semi good success with it. Cost me like 60 tix to build I think; well thats how many I had when I started building this anyways. Videos will be added later to help further improve mine and others game with this deck.
No; no Lotus Petal. I was looking over some deck lists for this deck on PDCMagic.Com and there lists didn't have Lotus Petal in them either. Well the first few didn't have them. HERES a link to the thread. Do you have any suggestions on what to take out for them? Also need to work out the mana base better too so suggestions on that are welcomed as well.
Barren Moor and Forgotten Cave cycle lands or the sac for 2 mana lands? Well I'm probably not going to be getting those kinds of kills that soon as I'm still learning this deck and how to play it correctly which I'm sure is obvious in the videos.
I agree but, couldn't think of anything off hand that was better then Words Of Wisdom. I migth have to try out two of each of those cause I don't like the idea of losing two life per Sign In Blood when I'm already fairly low on life when I storm off. I usually don't seem to have any problems with having black mana.
This is my deck of choice, it just feels so unfair to play this kind of Magic. I personally run less land and I can't agree with not having four Lotus Petals. I'll post a list later (a touch busy right now, but I can't help be excited to see the renewed activity around here!) but I think the key to this deck is finding the right balance between draw spells, to keep the storm going, and rituals to power it. Ideas Unbound is insane, of course, but making UU consistently is never that easy and getting stuck there is the most common cause of fizzling.
Other things to discuss are the mana base, how to sideboards and how on earth you beat rats without getting real lucky. I've been siding out Empty the Warrens for Ulamog's Crusher. I figured that at very least you can scrape together eight mana from saclands and rituals and such, and it beats Crypt Rats. Usually they won't have a kill spell for it
My main suggestions would be pretty much what everyone else says. Cut some lands, lotus petals are big, and duress is essential in the sideboard. I would really have echoing truth or decay for the mirror match too.

You could have won this (or at least had a very good chance of doing so), if only you'd try to go off with your combo. Stars and Spheres are there not just to draw you a card like in monoRed decks, but also to fix your mana. Play all of your rituals first and then fix mana as needed to cast draw spells. And never-ever cast Ideas Unbound unless you'll have an empty hand by the end of that turn or you have a bunch of lands you absolutely don't need (but most storm decks don't play as many lands as you do). And don't be afraid to sac your sac lands. You either go off or you lose, so no point in saving.
When I built this I was just going off the first post on PDCMagic.Com so 18 lands seemed about right.
Thanks for the tips. Like I've said before I'm still learning this deck so tips like that really help me alot. I'll try to remember to use the stars at the end to help fix mana instead of them being the first thing to go. I usually liked to use them first cause they draw you an extra card so I would know how much I can storm for and to help plan it out abit more. I was actually thinking of what I could replace the Ideas Unbound with cause I found them to hurt more then help me more then half the time. I agree with the sacing of lands. I started to notice its basiclly all or nothing with them.
My main suggestions would be pretty much what everyone else says. Cut some lands, lotus petals are big, and duress is essential in the sideboard. I would really have echoing truth or decay for the mirror match too.
Thank you for posting a list. If I have the cards I'll test out your list to help get a better idea what everyone is talking about.
Yeah I know. I wanted to do the Familiar Storm deck but, that costs alot more to build so I chose to build this instead. Good thing I never paid for all those tixs. I've bought two accounts and never spent a penny more since then.:p

It must be me or something cause thats the worst list of this deck I've played. Aways lacking lands in order to cast spell and not enough draw to keep going.
And there's your main mistake. You can only plan for 7 (or less) cards that are in your hand, but to kill someone with Grapeshot you need to cast 20 or more spells in one turn (and believe me, this deck is very capable of doing that). As you combo out you need to just go through your deck finding one card draw spell after another (refueling with rituals you find) and you just can't plan that (mainly because you don't know what's on top of your deck). Ideas Unbound is a great card, that's the kind of cards you want, because it let's you dig 3 cards deep without any disadvantage (assuming that you will win the same turn).
Sometimes it won't work because of shuffler randomness - that's just Storm decks for you. It's all about the risks, and turn 2-3 wins only come with hoping for the best draws.
Thanks for the tips. It seemed to work out better every so often but, not always cause the card I draw from them usually becomes something I want to play but, can't due to not having mana of that color cause I couldn't plan for it.
Any suggestions for thread name? I'm hoping this becomes a primer thread. I might drop this deck and some how get tixs for the Familiar Storm deck instead as this deck seems to be based on way more luck then I have.
Yeah I know that. So when are you posting your list Fifthchild? Would like to see someone elses take on this deck and there luck or lack of with it. I was using Grapplingfarang's list they posted all day today and was having worst lucky with it then what I was having with my own version. I'll still mess around with mine since I already have all the needed cards for this arch-type (I think) so well see if it gets any better (for me at least).
Well, Probe isn't free, two life adds up. Especially when you're casting Sign In Blood -- three of each is a potential 12 life. I don't know about anyone else, but I generally wait until the last minute before attempting to go off against an aggro deck (not so much against decks where there might be counters) and a few times I've been caught with Sign In Blood in hand, black mana to cast it but not enough life to do it safely. Game one, you can usually get away with casting two before it becomes problematic. Having so many pay life cards could be a problem game one against the aggro decks -- usually a good matchup. Dunno, just my thoughts.
I don't think probe will be a 4 of for me, but it's possible. The 2 life is not a good option vs aggro, but I can see using it as a 2 of, but i do like the fact I can look at their hand without running duress main deck, this lets me plan accordingly.
@Ceej
Yeah, all this talk recently of 'free' spells has me a little on tilt, not only in here, but practically everywhere else. Some ideas get stuck on the collective consciousness like a tick on a fawn. Once people play with these Phyrexian mana spells some, they'll see that they are actually fairly well balanced -- and that two life (four, in some cases) is far from nothing. People who don't temper their initial enthusiasm will show themselves as those who haven't played with them enough.
But we ain't here to talk about that -- but my gut feeling on balancing Gix Probe and Sign In Blood is 3/3 split. I'll go from there and if I kill myself too often, dial it back. I think I need to cut a Sign In Blood anyway. The payoff from Probe (no mana, sometimes relevant effect, storm count) seems totally worth it, and the price is right. Against aggro I see taking them all out, maybe leaving one, I tend to side out Sign In Blood when there's mountains across the table. Recently, I Signed in Blood at six and my Affinity opponent responded with Galvanic Blast. So much for that!
Something else I've been meaning to ask -- the land in the SB I see quite often. What matchup do you bring that in for, and what comes out?
I haven't really had much time to test so I can't say which I have personally found better. Obviously being able to use the depletion lands twice is huge, but the fact that they stay in play can also hurt your ability to get threshold with cabal ritual and honestly winning after a failed storm attempt is a slim chance. I would really appreciate some feedback as to whether they are really worth running over the sac lands.

First this is a MTGO section not paper and second I think being able to have access to multiple colors is more helpful. I've had games were I was stuck on one color of spells and the after a few draws I started getting other colors and the sac lands really helped out alot.
According to this calendar its not coming out this year as far as we know so far. Hate having to jump from section to section no thanks to mods moving this to paper section.
Yeah it's probably just coming out next year. Stupid mercadian masques, bane of my MTGO existence since it is nonexistant there.
I like AJ Kerrigan's build of this deck; just one EtW MD with 4 grapeshots and a one or 2 of bushwhacker. I believe he runs 4 probe and 4 morphose as well.
On brainstorm. I don't think it belongs in here it doesn't really do much; this deck produces mana and draws cards. Drawing 3 then putting 2 back on top to draw again doesn't really matter at all and just wastes a precious blue mana.
Lotus petal should always be a 4 of in storm combo decks. +1 mana of any color is sick.
Seething song seems very awkward. It just adds red mana is the reason why. You also need blue and black mana and having 5 red mana doesn't really help the cause. Even desperate ritual/pyretic ritual seem better since you need one less mana to cast it/you can go rite of flame into pyretic ritual without using another color of mana for pyretic while with seething song you could use all 3 colors of mana to cast it in an awkward mana state.

"Yawgmoth," Freyalise whispered as she set the bomb, "now you will pay for your treachery."
reasonably reliable, although i'm considering See Beyond, and Words of Wisdom.
Turn 1 land, probe is knowing his stuff? Wasting spells in general, especially his mana producers? Just look at the comments in the SCG forums to realize how bad the video was, I only made it through round 1 (as someone who plays the deck, I didn't need someone to tell me "this is storm, when you cast spells, your storm count goes up. Then you can cast a spell with storm and it copies for your storm count.")

Odds of pulling a JtMS from a WWK pack: 1:80
Odds of pulling any specific rare in 5th Edition: 1:133
So, on average, 1 JtMS every 2.222 boxes or 1 Bird of Paradise every 3.694 boxes. Yeah, I'll take my odds with Mythics, they are easier to get than old rares.

Here's what I've been playing (but grapplingfarang's list looks pretty sweet too):
4 Rite of Flame

Peat Bog
It allows you to get rid of the sac lands that produce awkward color mana. Currently I'm using the following 12 lands plus petals.
3 Peat Bog
3 Saprazzan Skerry
3 Sandstone Needle
3 Sulfur Vent
I haven't really had much time to test so I can't say which I have personally found better. How important is the Goblin plan anyway? Does this deck really need the extra win-cons?
It seems like if you want to do the goblin plan, it's best to go with more than 1 EtW and 1 Bushwacker.
From my perspective, it seems like the Goblin plan is mostly necessary against decks that play cards like Prismatic Strands.
