Have they completely done away with 8 man draft pods? I only see it available for AAK, New Player or Internal (why even post Internal WotC events). Haven't logged in in forever. Who's the orbital launch facility tech who thought making Drafts league only was a good idea? It works for sealed, not draft. Why the hell would I want to get thrown into a bucket consisting of 50+ pods. I assume that's how this works seeing as how I can find little to no decent information on the process. What I Have found seems vague and poorly written or perhaps I'm just missing something and my synapses are failing to fire. How does it work compared to old Leagues. In which you crack product, play 5 point matches per week then wins afterward go towards TBs.
The current set can only be drafted in leagues. I agree that this sucks. I stopped drafting for a few months when this change happened. I believe that the previous set can be drafted in a Swiss league (6-2-2-2).
The advantage to the current format is in speed. You can draft and knock out your 3 games in a lot less time. This is particularly popular to those who Twitch or create draft videos. There was a lot written about this when the change first happened, including WotC posts covering their rational.
New leagues are different from the old leagues. There's no such thing as tie breakers. You play at your own pace, there's no such thing as matches per week. You can read more about leagues here and here.

They used to have 8-4 single elimination. Did they get rid of that? I thought I saw LSV play one the other day.

Out of the blackness and stench of the engulfing swamp emerged a shimmering figure. Only the splattered armor and ichor-stained sword hinted at the unfathomable evil the knight had just laid waste.
They have "serious" draft leagues which are single elimination. Prizes to just 1st and 2nd. That's probably what LSV was playing. It could also be a special event (Streamer Showdown?).
