Looks good from what I see. The prize structure is top heavy as indicated in the article, and it will be interesting to see the EV calculations based upon projected winning percentage. I am looking forward to not having to commit 3 hours at a time to play in a limited event, though 3 hours is usually fine (and I prefer drafting).
I leave EV calculations to the experts, but at first blush this seems like a pretty poor payout, at least compared to drafting. Are the regular sealed events this bad?
It's great that you can play the matches over several days and that you can change your deck over the course of the event.
Matchmaking is going to be key though. If you open a sealed deck and go 0-2 you probably drop since going 3-0 is a lot less likely when you can run into someone who is 4-0 with a busted deck when previously you'd never have run into that potential so it could have been possible to rattle off the wins against other 0-x decks
I love the idea of the Sealed Leagues, but the way they are set up now is terrible, if not outright crooked. Twice each league you are given an option of buying an extra pack for your deck, and even if you don't you still have to play opponents who have 1 or 2 more boosters in their pool than you. It's totally outrageous.

Its similar to how the original leagues worked (years ago when they were last available). In them, you got to add one booster each week. But, you didn't have to.
I like being able to add boosters, I don't find it outrageous.
I like the format of the leagues, but I have had no joy at all with the current sealed format.
To be honest though, I wish it was more like the Hex gauntlet which is closer to the Hearthstone model, first to 5 wins or 3 losses and then prizes based on number of wins
The leagues are probably the most succesful implementation they have made in MTGO ever. It's a great setup and I can see why they've removed some of the queue formats in favor of this. You get much more play for your tickets, the prizes aren't terrible, and the ability to add 40-PP boosters to your Sealed pool gives you a good way to convert smaller amounts of PP to value.
The payout looks really weak but that's because I'm not used to looking at Play points as value when they really are probably better than straight packs if you are trying to change events.
I played in my first MTGO event in over a year last night. I can't comment on the price structure but the unlimited time to make my deck, the ability to change my deck, and ability to play 1-2 games and take a break without worrying when the round is over was really nice.

Out of the blackness and stench of the engulfing swamp emerged a shimmering figure. Only the splattered armor and ichor-stained sword hinted at the unfathomable evil the knight had just laid waste.

Well done MTGO team.
