I’m planning on going to GP Cleveland with a friend next month and have been trying to prepare for it as much as my schedule allows me. Lately we’ve been buying packs to practice Sealed and I performed really well against him with the deck I made yesterday but I still don’t know if I made the right decisions in the building process. I figured I’d share my pool here – any and all critique is more than welcome, I want to do my best at this thing. I'm also happy to answer any questions as to what I decided to include or exclude.
Intersting pool. There are no real bombs to pull you into any wedges, and your fixing says Mardu or Jeskai (or one splashing the other). Sage of the Inward Eye is close enough to being a bomb to me.
In your Mardu deck I don't like having early creatures that cost W, 1W, RR, 1B all in the same deck. One of those colours should be a splash and in this deck I think it's black that gets the early creature squeeze.
In general my deck and creatures are better set up for the late game, since I have 2 more flyers and more card draw. Why did you leave out both Arrow Storm and Reach of Shadows?
My goal in building the deck was to be very aggressive and get under the opponent, so I wanted a low curve (why I excluded Arrow Storm and Reach of Shadows, though I didn't want to cut the former). Mardu Scout is RR but I can still dash it for 1R and my deck wants to be attacking. None of my blue cards really incentivized me to play the color and the aggro strategy looked pretty good to me with what I had, though I'll probably rework the deck to what you outlined and see how it performs - looking back on my pool, I agree with you on a lot of things. Pressure Point definitely could have been replaced with something else.
I'm agreeing with most of your decisions on this one. I don't think this deck particularly needs a bomb when it can just hit hard and go under consistently enough. I personally don't see any incentive to splash, I feel like that just makes consistency a much bigger issue. But I definitely would have wanted to fit either the Arrow Storm or Reach of Shadows in there. Maybe both instead of pressure point and one of the more lackluster creatures.
