Use my last mana source, W, for Cloudshift on Craterhoof Behemoth for lethal. My play mistake was that if I just Cloudshift the Behemoth before attacking, I actually get more damage through and I shouldn't be afraid of his W open mana. :duh: Which card(s) exceeded your expectations?

I have little opinion since ive only played the set once but White seems possibly the best due to its flyers but overall there is tons of room from what ive seen for each color to have respective bests. Which makes for a pretty balanced set.
What are your general overall impressions of AVR?
Really enjoyed it. Reminded me of onslaught block which i <3 dearly so was pleasantly pleased. Also miracle/soulbound is fun mechanics. Soulbound better then miracle but they both deserve recognition.

Since Judgment. What was your Win/Loss/Draw record(s)?
3-1 and a win in the top 8, at a midnight prerelease (hence fewer rounds than usual) What color/archetype(s) did you play?
GWu, splashing for a couple Soulbond cards and some random fliers, because I didn't have enough playable cards in any two color combination, had no off color removal and also was just curious to see how good Soulbond was. Which card(s) was your MvP?
Riders of Gavony, by far. I got two Wolfir Avengers and they helped me win plenty of games, but it was also fairly common for them to be negated by something not that great (Angelic Wall!). Riders, on the other hand, can win games itself against most decks in the format (creature types don't seem to vary too much). Which card(s) was your unsung hero?
Wingcrafter, I ended up being quite pleased with the decision to splash him, as he can end boardstalls or simply put heavy pressure on them if they're slow coming out (playing him turn one followed by a two power guy on turn 2 can lead to some pretty aggressive starts if you continue to curve out). Yes, I might have been lucky to cast him multiple times on turn 1 off only a few islands. What was the most powerful card in your deck?
Has to be the Riders of Gavony. Boring to have it overlap with MVP, but this card just does so much, What was the most valuable card in your sealed pool?
Slayer's Stronghold??? What was your biggest play?
Honestly, my opponents made more big plays than I did. I lost a game that I thought I had locked up in a mere two turns when my opponent got the Heirs of Stromkirk+Stonewright combo. I also lost a game, though I ended up winning the match, to Lambholt Champion+Thatcher Revolt. Which card(s) exceeded your expectations?
Scrapskin Drake. I'm usually less of a fan of 'flying, can only block fliers' cards than most people, but there were enough board stalls to make him sweet. Which card(s) fell short of your expectations?
I had two and they were the only removal spells in my sealed pool so I played them both- not a smart decision, as it sucked. That said, I was splashing, so I could see it being decent in a deck with 10+ white sources. In your opinion, order the colors from best-to-worst for AVR Limited:
Not enough information to judge and what information I did get was conflicting. I can say that black is complete garbage and is by far the worst color, unless there's some sweet synergy that I'm not getting. Red/White humans will very likely be the best archetype in draft. What are your general overall impressions of AVR?
Strange format, can't think of a good comparison right now, especially because the power level is way below that of recent sets. Soulbond is amazing and I feel like almost all cards with it will be very high picks. As for the flow of the games, they seem to revolve around the high powered uncommons and what answers, if any, you have to those uncommons.

I am in love with this card pool, not so much for standard play but for the sheer awesome possiblities for the limited format. I really like how miracles as good as they are still take a bit of skill to play with. Watching people choosing to cast them at the wrong time including myself made me realize that they aren't as OP as some people think. Granted it can cause for lucky plays, they are worth it to me.

Which card(s) exceeded your expectations?
All the green soulbond pump guys. With the dearth of removal in the set, they are often Travel Prep on decent bodies.

What are your general overall impressions of AVR? Tough to say. It does appear to be dominated by the dreaded bomb.dec, but there is also room for aggro decks to sneak in. White wasn't as strong as many said. Moonsilver Spear is probably the strongest card in this format. Aside from that, the format is pretty balanced.
It's still not colorless, and has no color. That's a paradox. So either you're a Zen master or an idiot, I'll assume the Zen master for sake of argument. This card will have no paradoxes because it has a clear paradox. Deep stuff man.

What was your Win/Loss/Draw record(s)?
7-0 for first place.
What color/archetype(s) did you play?
GWr midrange with fliers and miracles.
Which card(s) was your MvP? angelic armament and builder's blessing. You can stall the ground with your dorks with blessing until you hit your saucy stuff or miracles, or you can swing over with fliers. The armament really is amazing, as it turns mediocre dudes into killing machines. I won a ton of games because of these cards, and I can see an archetype being made around blessing. Obviously the miracle cards are MVPs too, they are freaking insane.
Which card(s) was your unsung hero? Angel of jubilation was a lot better than I expected. The pump really comes in handy, and it actually saved me from getting blown out by bone splinters.
What was the most powerful card in your deck?
Probably bonfire of the damned. It's even good if you hardcast it, but imagine if you topdeck it late it in the game... you just win on the spot. Honorable mention to revenge of the hunted.
What was the most valuable card in your sealed pool?
Bonfire of the damned.
What was your biggest play?
Managing to bait my opponent to block my flier with Griselbrand, and then kill him with thunderbolt. On his turn, he plays grave exchange, and on my turn, I topdeck bonfire to kill all his dudes and swing for exactly lethal.
Which card(s) exceeded your expectations?
Builder's blessing and cathedral sanctifier.

WGRUB
What are your general overall impressions of AVR?
The format is definitely very odd. It's really midrangey, but there is always the potential for an aggro blowout. I'd pick quality creatures in the common slots, and rely on uncommons/rares for any removal (there are few exceptions). Obviously miracles are insane. I'd pick them highly. Soulbond isn't as good as people think, all soulbond does is tend to drag games out longer than they need to go. Evasion is key in this format, since the quality of removal isn't that great. Any bombs you have will win you the game, etc.
I believe that I have enough social competence to slip into a party or two, potentially wooing some attractive females that would not mind spending the evening performing the booty dance on me.
What color/archetype(s) did you play?
I played WU fliers (little control). My other head played GRB removal.

Bonfire of the Damned where X = 3 to kill 5 creatures with Blood Artist in play.
Or Spirit Away on their bomb (the 4/4 +4/+4 soulbond guy)
We had a lot of blowouts. Later on we drafted (12 packs) and busted 2 more packs, the combined pool of 14 packs were not as potent as the 8 packs we had.

Which card(s) fell short of your expectations?
Emancipation Angel (Thunder Bolt rocked)
In your opinion, order the colors from best-to-worst for AVR Limited:
Red > Blue > White > Black > Green
What are your general overall impressions of AVR?
Not a fan. The "alone" mechanic is quite bad because you may have a creature or two, then rip a dude. Bounce was not particularly potent.
I actually like the scarcity of removal; it made the format really interesting because I was willing to play some awkward cards. It also upp'd the value of combat tricks. Plenty of creatures matched the big dudes, so, it wasn't as bomb-oriented as I thought.
Miracle was pointless.
Soulbound is a great mechanic and will see instant induction in our cube.
Overall, I had a blast, made out $100 profit, won ruthlessly with not a single close game all night. Went home, drafted packs with friends, and continued to have a great streak of luck. Will I play this set again? No.
U/W flyers tempo. Favorable Winds was playable in my deck since I had pretty much every good U/W common and uncommon flyer in the format along with a ton of bounce to tempo people out of games.
Which card(s) was your MvP?
Divine Deflection was my most powerful card as it led to huge blowouts in combat and just fireballed people out of games. Likely a first pick slam in draft and very splashable to boot.
Outside of Divine Deflection, my MVP was Seraph of Dawn. This card just battles so effectively and swinging the game 4 points in your favor every turn is huge. There's no reason this card should be a common as it's insanely good for a common.
Which card(s) was your unsung hero?
Hmm, I'd have to say Angelic Armaments. It's incredibly clunky, but as a reusable Spectral Flight of sorts it did quite a bit of work for me upon reflection. Just being able to turn some random bear into an Air Elemental is pretty significant and it also went well on Seraph (though like that needed any help >_>).
What was the most powerful card in your deck?
Divine Deflection for the reasons I mentioned above. It's basically a white fireball late game and an awesome trick/removal spell early game.
What was the most valuable card in your sealed pool?
I dunno, Alchemist's Refuge maybe? My pool was pretty garbage in terms of money rares but the commons and uncommons were very solid so I ended up winning a bunch of prize packs to kind of make up for it anyways.
What was your biggest play?
Nephalia Smuggler blinking my Mist Raven every turn. Once you assemble this, barring removal you can just lock your opponents out of games.
Which card(s) exceeded your expectations?
Favorable Winds. I thought it would be only decent with my 8 flyers but it just turned out to be awesome every time I drew it.
Another was Fettergeist. Obviously Serendib Efreet is a pretty awesome limited card, though the drawback on Fettergeist seemed rather significant in a deck running 16 creatures like mine was. As it turned out, I was never really paying more than 1-2 mana a turn and it didn't matter too much as a 3/4 flyer ends games pretty quickly. And hey, if they Spectral Prison or use some other enchantment to nullify him you can just not pay the upkeep.
Which card(s) fell short of your expectations?
Banishing Stroke....mostly because I never drew it once in 5 rounds
In your opinion, order the colors from best-to-worst for AVR Limited:
Blue
Green
White
Red
Black
Blue has some incredibly powerful bounce spells and several great flyers plus Latch Seeker. The blue in my pool was incredible and I can't see blue being anything less than amazing in draft when you can actually pick for synergies.
Green has some incredibly good soulbond creatures such as Druid's Familiar. Even some of the random green dorks are incredibly difficult to beat, such as Yew Spirit (Chameleon Colossus at uncommon you say?)
White has some solid flyers, especially Seraph of Dawn at common and some decent removal.
Red's creatures are incredibly crappy and I was walling out red decks all day with Galvanic Alchemist. In sealed red seemed really bad for anything other than removal spells, though in draft I could see Boros possibly being a good strategy since you can build around the synergies more.
Black didn't seem like anything more than a support color. It has some of the best removal in this removal light format but the creatures impress me even less than red's.
What are your general overall impressions of AVR?
The format is a lot faster than I expected, and I feel like a U/X tempo or a G/X soulbond deck is generally where you're going to want to be in draft.

Which card(s) was your MvP? Seraph of Dawn x2 were amazing all day long. Every game I lost was because I never saw said card. This card as a common is ridiculous
Shout out to Dark Impostor, who won two games by herself. Which card(s) was your unsung hero?
Devout Chaplain does damage. One game I managed to exile 5 permanents against my opponent. Incredible.
What was the most powerful card in your deck? Seraph of Dawn. They lose life, you gain life. Very difficult to argue against that combination in limited. Killing Wave is also a bomb. What was the most valuable card in your sealed pool?
*See above What was your biggest play?
Round 3, game 3. Lots of creatures on both sides of the table. I swing with everything I got. Opponent takes most of it. I cast Killing Wave for 5. This wipes his board. I drop from 16 to 6 life...wiping my team except Seraph of Dawn and Voice of the Provinces. He drops a big flyer the next turn but I'm able to race past him for the win...aided by a Midvast Protector on the ensuing turn.
We both agreed Killing Wave was played perfectly. My opponent was building momentum. The cost of Wave, my choice of keeping 2 flyers, and ability to finish off the opponent couldn't have been better. Well-fought matchup against an equally goos opponent.
Which card(s) exceeded your expectations? Dark Imposter. When you hit 6 mana, feeding time is backbreaking.
Which card(s) fell short of your expectations? Angel's Tomb. Sucks
In your opinion, order the colors from best-to-worst for AVR Limited:
Gold (should you be lucky enough to pull them) > Green (the wolf rare was in half of the T8 decks) > White (angels are just too good) > Blue > Black > Red > Artifacts.
What are your general overall impressions of AVR?
The set is interesting. I really don't like Miracle as a mechanic. In a sealed event, the luck of having miracles in the first place trumps everything else. In many ways Miracles punish proper playing by heavily increasing "luck". "Ooops I have the green miracle which makes my dork a gigantic creature that'll wipe your army". The Miracle costs are just ridiculous.
Overall, this set lacks legitimate removal. I had this discussion with several players. I was lucky enough to have Imposter, Killing Wave, and 2 death wind. I would rank that list as "removal heavy".
Additionally, the balance of colors and creatures is very spotty. Depending on what's in your sealed cardpool, you can roll people or get stomped.

How long have you been playing for?
Since Revised What was your Win/Loss/Draw record(s)?
2-2 in the morning, 4-0 in the afternoon What color/archetype(s) did you play?
In the morning- Naya Humans, but in hindsight I should have played Bant. Wasn't feeling too hot in the morning and I totally overlooked my really strong Blue pulls in favor of things like Hound of Griselbrand and Reforge the Soul. For the afternoon tournament I played R/W Human / Angel with a really nice curve and a ton of removal (3 Pillar of Flame and 1 Righteous Blow and one Thunderous Wrath. Which card(s) was your MvP?
Honestly I can say Nearheath Pilgrim was my MVP for both decks. I was never unhappy to see him. I pulled two of them for each. For the afternoon, I also have to mention Moonsilver Spear. If it's not answered it just takes over the game. Which card(s) was your unsung hero?
Well, both Demolish and Goldnight Redeemer delivered me wins I wouldn't have had without them. Demolish took out an opposing Moonsilver Spear before it could start grinding Angels, and Goldnight Redeemer gained me 8 life when I was one 5/3 Latch Seeker swing away from death. For both decks though I would have to say the unsung hero was [card]Scalding Devil
[/card]. That little guy did a TON of work on the day in both decks, going over the top of clogged board states. What was the most powerful card in your deck?
For the morning sealed, Hound of Griselbrand was pound for pound my best creature play. The red intimidate vampires were really good too. However, Cathar's Crusade was just in-freakin-sane. I really wish I'd been thinking straight and played blue in the morning, I think I could have won that one off the back of Cathar's Crusade + Nephalia Smuggler. So good! For the afternoon sealed, I'd have to go with Herald of War or Moonsilver Spear. They both alter the game. What was the most valuable card in your sealed pool?
Two sealed, 12 packs, zero mythics. I guess Reforge the Soul would be the most valuable, maybe Alchemist's Refuge? Angel of Jubilation? I really don't know. What was your biggest play?
Kind of ironic, it came during a loss. I had out Vigilante Justice, Cathar's Crusade, and played Thatcher Revolt. 15 damage all at once. I was dead on board though, too little, too late. Which card(s) exceeded your expectations? Cathar's Crusade" target="blank">Cathar's Crusade. I thought it would be good but it was truly insane. Moonsilver Spear was another one that was truly powerful. Scroll of Avacyn with Angels on board is a huge swing as well. Which card(s) fell short of your expectations? Lightning Mauler" target="blank">Lightning Mauler. Its soulbond was the least useful on the day, whereas all the other ones were stars, even Hanweir Lancer. Well, okay, maybe the Pro-Zombie guy was pretty bad too, but other than that... In your opinion, order the colors from best-to-worst for AVR Limited:
This is pretty tough... but I'm going to have to go with..
1. Blue - Amazing at the top end (Tamiyo especially), and for an uncommon, Nephalia Smuggler just says "build around me". Elgaud Shieldmate protects him quite well, and things like Gryf Vanguard and Mist Raven give you extremely powerful options to bounce. There's also Vanishment, and the freeze a creature, draw a card instant, and the return two sorcery. Latch Seeker is a win condition by itself. All in all blue has everything you need.
2. White - Bombs like Avacyn, Archangel (uncommon!), Herald of War, Silverblade Paladin and Terminus all make white the second best color. On the low end, Cathedral Sanctifier, Cloudshift, Righteous Blow, Zealous Strike, and Nearheath Pilgrim give white an impressive toolbox to work with.
3. Green's Druid's Familiar and Trusted Forcemage both accelerate the game clock by a bit. Nightshade Peddler is amazing paired with anything with first strike. I honestly didn't play with or against Green much, but what I did see looked really strong.
4 - I'll put Red here. It was really good to me. Pillar of Flame and Thunderous Wrath were both really good, and I got blown out by Bonfire of the Damned in one game. I'd also qualify Zealous Conscripts as a bomb, it was in alot of winning decks.
5- Black - Unless they pulled a Griselbrand AND a bunch of removal, nobody was running black. The support just seemed far too weak. The loner creatures just aren't good enough in limited. What are your general overall impressions of AVR?
Well, this being my third pre-release (New Phyrexia and Innistrad being the others), I have to say the format was a lot of fun. There's enough good commons and uncommons that building in two colors is very feasible most of the time (not a feeling I got with either of those other two sets), nothing truly breaks the format, that I saw anyhow, and there isn't alot of removal or counterspells. Overall everyone was having a blast with it, which i I definitely cannot say for Innistrad or New Phyrexia.

Entreat the Angels, whiffed for money but did well in the prize packs

Felt kinda random but at the same time the games were very dramatic. Good fun, not what I'd want to play competitively at a GP, PTQ or PT

Which card(s) was your MvP? Seraph of Dawn/ Lifelink + Flying + 2/4? Awesome.
Which card(s) was your unsung hero? Defy Death. A lot of my creatures were angels, cast this one for the 7/7 for 4GG. INSANE when combined with a Seraph of Dawn
What was the most powerful card in your deck? Seraph of Dawn. Terminus also saved me a couple of times as a miracle. Dead in my hand most of the time.
What was the most valuable card in your sealed pool? Temporal Mastery. Didn't play it as my blue was terrible, and I really didn't want a 5BB in my hand either.
What was your biggest play?
Round 3, Game 2. His board was increasing; I was running out of life and creatures. I then miracle a Terminus, play Defy Death on Seraph of Dawn. 4/6 Flying Lifelink won me as he drew land after land after insignificant creatures.
Which card(s) exceeded your expectations? Seraph of Dawn. I cannot say enough about this card. It is a bomb in limited that I didn't think was that good. It is.
Which card(s) fell short of your expectations? Nightshade Peddler. Deathtouch for two creatures with one being super fragile didn't work too well.
In your opinion, order the colors from best-to-worst for AVR Limited:
Gold>Blue (all the bouncing)> Green (loads of cheaper creatures that work well) > White (angels) > Red (Burn at the stake is quite a suprise) > Black (way too little removal)
What are your general overall impressions of AVR?
If you get a mythic angel, Avacyn, or Griselbradn, you win. Its that simple. The green angel, Sigarda, is too powerful. In limited, there is no way to get rid of it other than Terminus or Killing WaveBonefire of the Damned. White is going to be way too overdrafted, blue is too bouncy if drafted well, and Red and Black is nonexistant.

There was not really one card that stood out. I guess the best card was Tandem Lookout though. Which card(s) was your unsung hero?
Galvanic Alchemist's soulbond was hardly relevant, but a 1/4 body really helped me clutter the ground. What was the most powerful card in your deck?
Avacyn, Angel of Hope. What was the most valuable card in your sealed pool?
See above. What was your biggest play?
I Mass Appeal for six, having a Tandem, two Alchemist's Apprentice, a Thraben Valiant, a Galvanic Alchemist, and a Nephalia Smuggler on the field. Managed to draw some of my fliers (Mist Raven, Scrapskin Drake) from that. Unfortunately, I still lost that game because it went into a stall fest and I had too much card draw for my own good. Which card(s) exceeded your expectations?
Besides Galvanic Alchemist, it would be Angel's Tomb. Which card(s) fell short of your expectations?
Nothing really. I had no hope for my pool, but it kind of delivered. I guess I expected Peel from Reality to be more relevant then it really was. In your opinion, order the colors from best-to-worst for AVR Limited:
White>Green>Blue=Red>Black What are your general overall impressions of AVR?
It is a fun format. I never had to deal with miracles and I never drew mine (Devastation Tide). I had fun, and my deck was better then anticipated. All matches I lost when to three and were against crazy pools (GR soulbond double Wolfir Silverhearts and WU flyers). They came first and third respectively. All my wins took two games and were against solid decks.
I won two packs, and opened Captain of the Mists, Demonlord of Ashmouth, and a FOIL MENTAL AGONY YES!!!!
Some people may think I'm overreacting, but after the release next sunday, I will never play an AVR sealed again as long as I live, and I'm far from alone, Carrie Oliver from ChannelFireball was at the events I was at today and yesterday. After the last 2 days, she's cancelled her trip to the next GP. She may be the only person I know who hates this format more than I do.
I think it's too early to give up on AVR Limited (although I've only played a Sealed so far). People are going to have good experiences and people will have bad experiences. I loved Zendikar and Worldwake because I did well. I hated Rise of the Eldrazi because I did poorly.
I had a miracle Time Walk cast on me, but I wasn't too upset. I did a miracle once in 6 rounds (having 2 miracles in my deck). Some of the soulbond creatures are too powerful. Some of the Angels are too powerful. I think we need to analyze all of the synergies and what archetype(s) do well before we completely judge it.

With lethal in Flying on the board next turn, topdeck my 3rd source of Green, pay 5GGG for Craterhoof Behemoth, attack with 4 creatures for 36 damage with my opponent at 37 life. Use my last mana source, W, for Cloudshift on Craterhoof Behemoth for lethal. My play mistake was that if I just Cloudshift the Behemoth before attacking, I actually get more damage through and I shouldn't be afraid of his W open mana. :duh:

Honestly none after i boarded the 2 cards out the other wasn't really. I had little expectations just knew the deck would be very good or very very bad.
In your opinion, order the colors from best-to-worst for AVR Limited:
I have little opinion since ive only played the set once but White seems possibly the best due to its flyers but overall there is tons of room from what ive seen for each color to have respective bests. Which makes for a pretty balanced set.
What are your general overall impressions of AVR?
Really enjoyed it. Reminded me of onslaught block which i <3 dearly so was pleasantly pleased. Also miracle/soulbound is fun mechanics. Soulbound better then miracle but they both deserve recognition.
Since Judgment.
What was your Win/Loss/Draw record(s)?
3-1 and a win in the top 8, at a midnight prerelease (hence fewer rounds than usual)
What color/archetype(s) did you play?
Boring to have it overlap with MVP, but this card just does so much,
What was the most valuable card in your sealed pool?

What are your general overall impressions of AVR?
I am in love with this card pool, not so much for standard play but for the sheer awesome possiblities for the limited format. I really like how miracles as good as they are still take a bit of skill to play with. Watching people choosing to cast them at the wrong time including myself made me realize that they aren't as OP as some people think. Granted it can cause for lucky plays, they are worth it to me.

Which card(s) exceeded your expectations?
All the green soulbond pump guys. With the dearth of removal in the set, they are often Travel Prep on decent bodies.

Elgaud Shieldmate Again, with the lack of removal granting hexproof didn't often seem important. He was good when paired with a green buff guy, though.

What are your general overall impressions of AVR? Tough to say. It does appear to be dominated by the dreaded bomb.dec, but there is also room for aggro decks to sneak in. I think UG is a viable way to go, but you need to be able to craft early pressure and then disrupt their big guys through bounce.

Which card(s) fell short of your expectations?
Emancipation angel. If you don't have a ton of good ETB triggers, this card just timewalks your opponent.

Or Spirit Away on their bomb (the 4/4 +4/+4 soulbond guy)
We had a lot of blowouts. Later on we drafted (12 packs) and busted 2 more packs, the combined pool of 14 packs were not as potent as the 8 packs we had.

No.
Since Invasion block so about 12 years now.
What was your Win/Loss/Draw record(s)?
4-1
What color/archetype(s) did you play?
Comments interspersed.
How long have you been playing for?

What was your Win/Loss/Draw record(s)?
4-2-0. Top 16 out of 72
Played to an amazing 4-0-0 but lady luck/gods of "you'll draw relevant things" left me in the final 2 rounds.
What color/archetype(s) did you play?

*See above
What was your biggest play?

What was your Win/Loss/Draw record(s)?
2-2 in the morning, 4-0 in the afternoon
What color/archetype(s) did you play?

In limited, there is no way to get rid of it other than Terminus or
Killing WaveBonefire of the Damned. White is going to be way too overdrafted, blue is too bouncy if drafted well, and Red and Black is nonexistant.EDIT: Miracle sucks. Soulbond is interesting.
2 EDIT: Killing wave can't kill sigarda.

No money for Magic at the moment. Still on here for the community.
