OK ok Spikeshot Elder would definitely be the right pick, I kind of forgot that it is possible to use his ability more than once, giving you lightning bolt for 3RRRRRR, which is still awesome if you have nothing else relevant to play.
Maybe plague stinger, but also maybe throne of geth if I was planning on forcing poison. you're more likely to see another plague stinger than you are to see another throne of geth, and if you can pick up some necropedes/ichorclaw myrs/vector asps, throne of geth becomes pretty scary.
the synergy between throne of geth + poison critters + trigon of rage is fantastic, too. pump your infect dudes when they're not blocked, then when the trigon runs out of counters, sac it to give them more poison.
The Plague Stinger pick is risky as hell, as you're taking a good card rather than a great one, IMO, in order to try and force a deck. Arrest will likely make your deck regardless of what else you end up taking. Plague Stinger is a role player, albeit an important one, in a niche archetype. If the power level of each card were really close, it would be a tougher decision, but I believe Arrest to be a premium removal spell, perhaps the best common in the set.

Signalling is like farting: it's a natural thing that helps people avoid being where you are, and if you try to do it deliberately, things turn to crap fast.

Or we could, I dunno, take the top notch removal spell
If this forum had Greasers, Phoenix, Commons and Semantics would be the leaders of the gang and every time they commented on something they would do a synchronized finger snap then smoke a cigarette.
Pseudofate, I don't know if I'd take Trigon of Corruption tops here, but I feel that it's pretty damn strong. The ability to pretty much nick off your opponent's weenies or screw with combat math is pretty solid, even if you can't recharge it. Sure, it's like a more expensive Serrated Arrows, but it's also a reusable (to anextent) bit of removal that can prove invaluable later on.
Just my 0.02. You don't have to be in black to play it, but it certainly gives you more benefits.
i don't like Trigon of Corruption as much as alot of you. its at its best in archetypes that i'm not fond of. its a fine card, don't get me wrong, but i rarely want to play a deck that wants to use Trigon of Corruption.
in that pack i'd be looking at Golem Artisan and then trying to get into a metalcraft deck. Artisan is really good when you start giving flying to your Chrome Steeds.
I'm havent had a lot of success with golem so I'm biased.
Man, Trigon that low? It's a card that makes me want to go black, not just use if I already am. I've had nothing but success with the Trigon. Picking off Myrs is nice, but it's also really good to use to slide pretty much any combat situation in your favor. I'm a really big fan of it in UB metalcraft/UB good stuff control.
I won't say I've had a lot of success with the Golem, but I haven't played with it a lot either. It's been good if I have been in a position to race. I'm not a fan of it when on the back foot.
I like the trigon there because it will go in my deck like 95% of the time and will most likely kill multiple creatures. it's much slower than the two colored removal spells but it's more flexible and can give you card advantage. it also helps because there are so many things that want you to have artifacts. for me it's close between it and the golem but the potential card advantage makes the trigon slightly more appealing (lots of low toughness in this set).
this is a tough pack though with several first-pick worthy cards.
The pick is probably between the 3 uncommons, and I personally would tend toward the Axe, to send a strong red signal to the person to my left and hope one of the Certarch and Invisimancer tables (or the Glint Hawk, even).
I absolutely love Trigon and don't even consider it a black card at all. Still, I think the pick is between Shatter or Revoke. Not sure which is right. Instant vs. better color (white).
As for above, it's either Axe or Embersmith. Personally, Axe is by a decent amount.
IMO its to slow for a p1p1. Its more of a "I'm in black already" card
This I definitely don't agree with.
By the time you've put counters on three things the card's already done a huge amount for you. Indeed, I've P1/P1'ed Trigon of Corruption twice now precisely because it isn't a colour commitment.

The Axe is head and shoulders above the rest. All you need is a creature to make Axe good and you definitely don't want to be facing off against it.
Embersmith is a definite bomb, but it suffers a lot more from top deck syndrome than the Axe.
Hippogrif is really good as a way to both claw your way back in lifetotal and card advantage. Plus, fliers are at a premium in this set--especially 3/3 fliers.
Here I think it comes down to Grasp vs. Exoskeleton vs. Iron Myr (I know, Presdofate's gonna be so angry). If you take one of the Grasp and the Exoskeleton, you're passing a card that'd be useful in the resulting Infect deck, and other than the Glint Hawk there's nothing else tempting here. Now, Grasp is good on it's own, but that's a pretty harsh black requirement for one removal spell.
hmm... of the above pack, i would be pretty tempted by the berserkers, to go into rw metalcraft... but the myr is probably a better choice, due to red's high splashiness.
the exoskeleton isn't terrible either, and it's less of a commitment than grasp of darkness.
How about this one?
pack 2 of 4:
Another great pack. I'd go with Nim Deathmantle because it's recursion AND evasion.
GWU Rafiq of the Many GWU (50% complete)
RG Wort, the Raidmother RG (40% complete)
WU Hanna, Ship's Navigator WU (20% complete)
Stinger
Deathmantle
Trigon
Obomb
Steed
Forger
Scudder
Drake
Nim

Golem Artisan
Trigon of Corruption
Glimmerpost
Revoke Existence
Gold Myr
Vulshok Heartstoker
Shatter
Psychic Miasma
Saberclaw Golem
Iron Myr
Goblin Gaveleer
Necrogen Censer
I think it probably boils down to Artisan vs. Trigon, but there are arguments for either of the removal spells too, I think.
1. Trigon
2. Golem
3. Revoke
4. Juggernaut/Shatter
That's a really good pack, imo.
Pauper Cube
I cube, I play EDH, and I can't afford Legacy. The other formats can suck it.
