So I've been out of playing Magic for a while... I remember that, usually, sealed decks consisted of one tournament pack of the large set in the block, and then one booster pack of each of the small sets. I've been reading some stuff about how it's 6 total booster packs usually. So, just a couple questions...
1) How would a Magic 2010 sealed work? 6 packs? 5 packs?
2) What about a Shards of Alara block? 2 packs of each set? Tournament pack of Shards and then one booster of Conflux and Alara Reborn? (Yes, I know there are no tournament packs anymore, replace that with "3 boosters of Shards")
3) What about the two set blocks like Lorwyn/Morningtide? 3 boosters of each set?

Prereleases do 6 packs, launch parties do 5, so it's up to you which you prefer. As for the distributions, it's pretty much just as you said, depending on how many packs you want to use. Six usually makes for slightly better, more consistent decks obviously, but it depends on how much product you have.
The M10 prerelease was 6 packs M10, the launch party was 5 packs M10.
The Shards prerelease was 1 tournament pack shards and 3 shards boosters (aka 6 shards boosters.) Conflux was 3 packs shards 3 packs conflux. Reborn was 3 packs shards 3 packs reborn, but if you want to do the full block then 2/2/2 is probably fine, or 3/1/1 if you're doing 5 boosters.
I don't know what they did for Lorwyn, but 3/3 or 3/2 would work.
Usually the site you're at will have plenty of basic lands for you to borrow for your deck.
Hopefully this is the case, but occasionally events run out if they plan poorly. It's not a bad idea to bring a box of 10 of each basic land just in case.
I'm actually hoping to play a sealed deck game with friends. None of us have really played in a number of years. They have mana we can use, but since I will have 6 boosters worth of cards afterwards, I will want to make a deck. And I will need mana.
I had heard of "Mana booster packs" a long time ago, but it seems they don't exist now (or ever?).
Is my best bet buying singles from card shops?

So, players may freely put as many of each into the deck?
A tangent question: as a player who's never owned cards, I have no mana. What is the best way for me to acquire them?
