ok, a few buddies and I want to get together and do a small sealed competition. we just want to get 6-8 (i forget exactly) packs each and see what we can make. obviously, with a few of us, and the fact that we hope to play it 2-3 times before we switch to constructed, we feel that a booster box is the best option, just because there are plenty of packs. sadly, we are all college students and as the price goes up, the fun for us drops. so my question is, what booster box would be the very cheapest and is there somewhere we could get a good deal? price is the biggest factor, but we want sealed packs because the repack guys take all of the good cards, and we want it to be Modern in case we try Constructed competetive. Cheap boxes everybody, and GO!

Mirrodin - $200
Champions - $300
Rav - $450
Time Spiral - $250
Lorwyn - $400
Shadowmoor - $250
Shards -$175
Zendikar - $200
Scars - $100
Innistrad -$100
Return - $100
If I had to choose from this list and money and fun were the biggest factors I'd take Shards. With a little extra money, Time Spiral.
If money was no object then Ravnica.
Innistrad is cheap and has Snapcaster Mage and enemy colored checklands. So if you want possible RoI, pick this.
How you should approach every game of Magic.
