it looks like this thread is proving one thing: that skill and luck - just like in every sealed tourney- is winning the prerelease and not what guild you pick.
So pick the guild you want and have fun!
Couldn't have said it better. My pre-release starts in two hours. I'm going to go honor the Conclave.

Some kind of witty comment should be here.
I'm sure you can think of something by yourself.
Went 4-0-1 spiltting for first because populate is insane with the selysena land and armada wurm, and the 7 mana angel is probably the best limited card in ravnica.
I just got to the 9:30am pre-release and was told that Izzet won at midnight. I will be playing Azourious and hoping I do we'll. First place gets 3 Booster boxes!! Oh yeah, and there's only 12 people here so far.
Golgari was heavily represented at my lgs, followed by Rakdos and Selesnya. Not sure who came out tops in the end, but I think Selesnya performed pretty well overall.
It was all about the fats in the end. I played Golgari and decided to splash White since I cracked an Armada Wurm plus some solid populate tricks. Both my wins were against Rakdos, one loss was from Izzet (Utavara Hellkite is just sick) and another was from Selesnya, where an ever present guildmage wrecked the board by populating those 8/8 vigilant elementals.
I figure that 3-color decks around green (GRB & GBW) performed stronger overall
Played azorius and got decent pulls.... got 4th but second was tied so ya....but they didn't do a playoff for the win!!....angry about that, esp cause first prize was a whole booster box, and I got left with 3 booster packs....whatever, hopefully tonight is better... Though tonight I'll be going golgari just cause I want scavenge for a self mill deck. Here's to hoping.
I played Selesnya and splashed for an archon of the triumvirate and a supreme verdict My MVP was most definitely vhitu-ghazi guildmage, once I stabilized, that thing would keep churning out centaur tokens and then moved up to populating the elemental tokens. It's hard to beat that much populate. I had a blast at the prerelease. Went 3-1

i have to agree with you. I had both in my pool along with double growing ranks and a bunch of token makers. I dropped a single game the whole night and it was because I was stuck on 6 land and needed the second forest or a plains to cast either the angel or wurm
So the conclusion is "open four on-color bombs or go home"? Opening double same mythic seems rather incredible. I left before the end, but Selesnya seemed to be doing fine. When I survey the choices, Selesnya and Izzet were clearly the most populous, Rakdos by far the least favorite. Curious who ended-up going 5-0 (or 4-0-1) in that Montreal midnight pre-release with 134 people registered!
Won my pre-release with Selesnya. Rakdos came in 2nd and 3rd.
Stalling the board with tokens and then swinging with 8/8 Vigilance unblockable dudes all day was awesome.
Me and one of my friends split my midnight with Selesnya, and he was playing azu. the mvps were obviously the 2 trostani's i pulled.with the land, also, the enchantments that make 2/2 vigi guys, both the prevent one damage enchant land and the creature gets +2, +2 and vigi, i basically loaded the deck with token makers, and populaters, i got low a few games but was able to populate/life gain my way to victory. there was hardly a game i didnt end at 50+ life
Went 5-0 with Rakdos, had decent removal and unleash creatures, but pretty much no bomb (not counting the promo). The 5 damage burn spell finished pretty often when the board was stalled, that was awesome. Played 5 matches against Azorious though, might be a good matchup for Rakdos.
120 showed up (!)last night. Went 4-0 with rakdos in a field full of unexpecting izzet and azorius players. Jund decks in general did really well. And I had 2 of that 5 damage instant as well. Super good.
I went 3 - 1 with rakdos I think I got 3rd an I believe azoris or Izzet got first.
I pulled 2 desecration demons and a few other decent cards splashed a little blue for pursuit in flight ( making a unleashed creature turn 3 have flying and +2/+2 is awesome) The game I lost however is the only time I got both the demons out Against an izzet player that paralyzing grasped one of them and the other got locked down with detain for I to not matter anymore.
I won 6 - 1 with my Selesnya, top 4 was me, 2 other Selesnya's, and an Izzet with a white splash.
Seemed like the Selesnya decks were most successful with a blue splash for some flyers, as long as they had a little bit of WG removal. I did not, so I splashed black instead for 2 Stab Wounds.
My MVP in my deck was Trostani.....go figure. Major major bomb in this set.
I got 3rd place as 5-1 with Rakdos. 1st and 2nd (5-0-1) and (5-1) were both Selesnya. I ended up getting paired down twice in rounds 4 and 6 and so ended up with fairly weak tiebreakers. I splashed blue for Jace, Nivix Guildmage, Izzet Keyrune, and 2 Void Welders. Between my 5-6 targeted removal, 2 sweepers, and 2 Void Welders I felt very well set up for facing Selesnya, and I had beaten both my round 1 and 5 Selesnya opponents with full command of all the games, but ended up having my round 2 opponent overtake me in tiebreakers and so got paired down in round 6.
The irony of the whole event was that I went Rakdos because it had 4 good common removal and 1 ok common removal and between my guild pack, the 5 other packs, and my 12 prize packs I didn't get a single Stab Wound, Explosive Impact, or Annihilating Fire. Sometimes you just don't see any of 3 commons, I guess.
The guild representations went Selesnya > Izzet = Golgari > Azorious > Rakdos, and yet there was no Izzet in the top 10 players.
Our midnight Prerelease was only 4 rounds. I ended up 4-0, playing Selesnya splash B. I opened up some crazy bombs which made this rather easy for me all night long
Vraska, Armada Wurm, Necropolis Regent. Grove of the Guardian was decent. Sometimes a bit clunky and a bad top deck as expected, but worked real well early and with populate, specifically setting up some sick turns w/ Trostani's Judgment
I won (5-0) my prerelease with selesnya. I chose it with hopes of getting either the charm or the guildmage. Got neither, but pulled trostani like a champ!
Populate with the 8/8 token in the deck is just so amazing and pretty much nothing could save opponents from that.
Had a bunch of solid selesnya cards beyond that, and splashed blue for inspiration, runewing and the 2wu 2/4 flash vigilance (that guy is amazing).
Our 10am flight had 84 players and 2 other people 5-0'd, one playing izzet and one playing golgari. Nice to see a mix doing well
Won my prerelease (26 people, 4 rounds), played straight up Golgari from the Golgari box. I didn't feel like my deck was that great, the only rare I played from my opens other than the promo was the Shaman, which did utterly rule mirror matches. I never played Azorious, there were plenty of them, but none them really performed all that well. Instead, I had my greatest trouble against my first game, Rakdos, which my scavenge creatures decided in the end. My last opponent, who was the only one tied for first with me at the time, was Izzet, who played a close game but I managed to come out on top 2-0.
Golgari was overall high in the ranks, Izzet second, and the rest felt even save for Azorious. Which seemed odd, since most of the players I thought better than me, winning more often in limited, tended to gravitate towards it. Guess scavenge just was enough.
I won my 40 man pre-release with Rakdos, and it was an average deck in regards to what is possible. I was also the only person to play Rakdos, so that may have had a cause in it.

I got the impression that all the guilds were playable, and it was more a question of adapting to a specific play style for the guild in question.

(Personally: Azorius. Ouside the guild pack: 0 Azorius rare, 1 uncommon. )
Top 4:
#1 Selesnya, 5-0
#2 Golgari, 5-0
#3 Rakdos, 4-1
#4 Golgari, 4-1
I finished #4 with Golgari with a splashed Blustersquall (which turned out to be amazing).
