I lost in the 2nd round. I don't really remember the games though. Overall, I believe I prefer swiss, but the fact that going into the finals pays for the draft kinda attracts me to 8-4. For now I'll stick to swiss but I might do a 8-4 from time to time.
Honestly, I stopped looking at the draftcap after you slammed P1P2 and P1P3 Fonts just because you had a Doomwake Giant. Obviously forcing things is generally terrible.
As for the deck, I don't agree with even considering playing Fated Retribution in this deck, maindecking two enchantment removal spells, loading yourself up with heroic enablers and only one heroic guy, or playing Eidolon of Rhetoric in a deck with a low cmc that's regularly going to want to use a trick and play a creature on the same turn. Plus, not enough creatures and no actual removal (which doesn't make Retribution justifiable). 13 creatures, 3 of which you never want to actually cast as creatures, isn't enough for the number of tricks and auras you're running.
For future reference, what would you have taken P1P2 and P1P3 (and P1P1). I honestly thought the fonts were the best cards in those pack.
For the deck, thanks for pointing out all those things. I pretty much agree with everything.
EDIT : Well, Pin to the earth in P1P2 is better than font, but I was trying not to be blue as I passed 2-3 good blue cards in P1P1. Also, we can see there is probably a Pin to the earth missing from P1P3.
You can't read much into what you get after pack 1, so I wouldn't worry all that much about it. I'd likely have taken Pin and then who knows - maybe Hulk just to completely cut UB. Those are bad packs.
In a nutshell, I think you committed too soon to Doomwake Giant (when you want to stay open with the first few picks) and then didn't commit enough to a 2nd color/strategy later on. Many pros will say Font is completely unplayable even as a constellation enabler. It works if you want to splash a 3rd color, but I see little reason to ever pick it otherwise. It's not making your maindeck if you draft properly. It's certainly not worth a 2nd pick even from a weak pack. Switching to white aggro was smart at first, but then you didn't grab enough small bodies to round out your curve (you can tell by your final deck) and then couldn't seem to decide on a second color early enough, diluting the pool of available choices. If you had just settled on red splash or blue splash or whatever earlier, you'd have a better selection of cards to work with. You also never seemed to consider green even though some solid green creatures kept going past you.
P1P2 Bad pack is bad. Pin to the Earth is the best card. It's only pick 2. Just take the best card instead of worrying about being cut.
P1P3 Same pack, with Pin to the Earth notably missing. And you passed Hour of Need. So people on both sides of you are probably trying to play blue. They may not stay blue, but worth noting. Armament of Nyx, Hulk or Thunderhoof?
P1P4 - Harvestguards is solid, especially for BW constellation aggro (or any Wx aggro really). Nyx Infusion is a solid removal spell and synergizes well with -1/-1 constellation... IF you were still considering building around Doomwake Giant or cutting black, Nyx Infusion does all that. But Harvestguards is a fine pick too.
P2P1 - Unless you were after tix, I'd have slammed Oreskos Sun Guide. Beyond Nyx Infusions, black was not open at all in pack 1 and probably won't be in pack 3. You don't want to be in black. Sorry Shrike Harpy and Mogis.
P2P3 - Since black seems bad and red seemed open in pack 1, let the black go and look for other options. Kragma Butcher and Sudden Storm are both very strong commons. You could consider playing Wr or maybe even Wu (particularly if you had grabbed that Pin to the Earth).
P2P6 - I don't know about passing Oreskos Sun Guide for Nyxborn Shieldmate twice with 0 heroic creatures so far. You're just playing a 3-mana Holy Strength without having enough small bodies yet to tack it on. This makes 3 Sun Guides passed in 6 packs, which might screw over your chances of seeing good white aggro in pack 3.
P2P10 - Loyal Pegasus over Fated Retribution. That doesn't do anything your deck wants to do. Pegasus gives you more early bodies, which you lack.
P3P2 - Chosen by Heliod is a bit premature. Yeah, you just grabbed your first heroic guy, but that doesn't mean you just drop everything else and only grab Heroic enablers. You're not always going to have T1 Favored Hoplite and so far you don't even know if you're getting Wingsteed Riders. Without heroic guys, Chosen is a decent support card but less good. You need bodies. Leonin Snarecaster is a body (which you need). I have no idea what colors you were considering at this stage, but if green was still on the table for a splash then Leafcrown Dryad or Nylea's Emissary are both solid picks. If you're in black, Triad of Fates is alright.
P3P3 -- you passed 3 Oreskos Sun Guide last pack... someone before you is definitely in white now, maybe the guy next to you. That's why no white. Pack probably just had 1 white card and the other guy took it. Are you still considering blue at this point?? If not, you shouldn't be hating Griptide.
P3P4 -- Well if you were considering blue with Griptide, this should be Vaporkin hands down. If red is on the table, Minotaur Skullcleaver. Really, it would be easier to figure out a best pick if you knew what colors you were playing and what kind of deck you want to build. Chosen is alright, but I think you're trying way too hard on the enablers before getting enough creatures.
Overall deck... As expected from the draft, too many enablers for too few creatures. Not enough to support a serious heroic strategy, not enough raw bodies to support a serious aggro strategy, too many conditional cards maindeck, and then random control cards like Fated Retribution.
When considering your curve, I recommend thinking about when you would actually play things, not the mana symbols in the top right corner. Although your curve seems low, you only have 3-4 creatures you actually want to cast on the first 2 turns. That's way too low for an aggro deck. Nyxborn Shieldmate is a 3-drop buff, not a 1-drop creature (since 1-mana vanilla 1/2s are unplayable without T2 Ordeals). Ghostblade Eidolon is a 6-drop since you have few ways to make it that dangerous as a 3-drop (bestowing +1/+2 only makes a 2/3 double strike, which is not that broken for 6 mana). Factoring that in, you actually have quite few creatures to play in the first few turns (and few creatures in general), which makes for a weak white aggro plan. You do have some decent cards but they don't seem to cohesively make a deck.
Thanks for posting your draftcap though and congrats on the round 1 win! Best of luck with future drafts
Thanks for your input Skytherin and thank you very much FTW1987 for your detailed reply.
I guess I'm really overevaluating font of fertility. I thought it was a decent card for ramping and it helps getting the land you need. If I had been green, I would have been happy playing both. But I believe I'm starting to understand a bit more. Would it be correct to say that font of fertility is better in sealed than it is in draft?
I believe you are spot on when you say that I didn't get enough bodies and couldn't decide a second color soon enough.
I'll try to remember all those advices for the next time I draft (but that'll probably be with M15).
The thing about Font of Fertility is that it is durdly - it doesn't do anything to the board. Reasons to run it are:
* Constellation - something of an exception to the above - this can cause it to actually affect the board, though of course it still won't always come into play with a constellation card on the board (and in fact ideally it won't - fonts for ramp and fixing in the early game are all right - you'd need some pretty good constellation effects to feel good about one on turn 8).
* Ramp - If you are short on early drops and have some expensive win conditions that have high mana costs, a font can be reasonable. Note though that you are spending 3 mana for the privilege with no other benefit other than some slight deck thinning. If you are running a font only for ramp, you should strongly consider an 18th land instead.
* Fixing - Provided you are running 8+ forests, using a font to let you dig to your other colors is reasonable, especially if, say, you have multiple 2 mana-symbol spells in your primary colors along with a splash. Again, you are sacrificing a lot of tempo for the privilege, so you want to be sure that what you are getting fixing for is worth it and you wouldn't just be better off running an extra land or a 2-drop that actually affects the board.
If you aren't getting value out of at least 2 of the 3 reasons above in your deck, I don't really think font is worth it, and even then it is eminently cuttable.
The packs you pulled them from were, admittedly, bad, but Armament of Nyx or Pin to the Earth (in pack 2) are probably better alternatives. Since your first pick is going to make you lean towards enchantment creatures anyway, Armament of Nyx stands a reasonable chance of giving you the option of using it as removal or of making one of your enchantment creatures a real threat, and as a bonus it triggers any constellation effects you have.

Also a very good point about Armament of Nyx.
