UW
I go into round 1 with extremely low expectations. The draft was a disaster, the really dumb, bad kind where you play an 18th land because you didn't draft 23 playable. Surprise surprise, a UW deck in BTT? Who would've thunk it?? Much to my surprise though, the deck performs exceptionally well in game 1 dropping Akroan Crusader, Everflame Eidolon, Kragma Butcher, and Fearsome Temp T1-4 while opponent plays NOTHING before conceding.
Game 2, the game goes as expected with a Battlewise Hoplite voltron to beat my face in.
At this point, I did something I've never done before, which is side out an entire color. As I found that my opponent's deck was slower than most UW decks, I thought I'd have time to get the Disciples, Merchants, and the Overlord out.
Low and behold, my opponent and I enter a stalemate T4-8 and I get enough mana to drop Abhorrent Overlord which finishes him off over the next 3 turns.
UW
WOW! UW in BTT?? Really?? But again, to my actual surprise, opponent is very slow and passes first 4 turns (dropping Breaching Hippocamp on my turn 5). But then the hits come as Hippocamp becomes Ordeal of Heliod + Nimbus Naiad + Nyxborn Triton Hippocamp and I'm outta luck.
I again side out green and side in black. This time I curve out well again and opponent can't keep up with my red aggro.
Same story in game 3 and suddenly I've made packs out of this event.
RB
Opponent is playing minotaurs and gets me game 1, I hit back in game 2, and in game 3 he gets flooded and I win the game. He sends me a nasty msg after the game telling me how he would have beat me if he had drawn more swamps. I chose to not respond :).
So after losing 6 first-round eliminations in a row, now I've won two tournaments in a row following Cferejohn's advice
I was going to go over the picks, but then you kept passing naiad and gods willing, kept picking off-colour rares and switching colours, siding-out an entire colour for another (how often does one have enough playable of another colour for *that*?), only to end-up going 3-0 in the 8-4 queue over opponents playing just about the best archetype (WU aggro) but somehow not playing anything until turn 4, which sprouts an hippocamp? After you repeatedly passed naiads and god willings?
There are drafts where there is nothing productive to say. You nailed it!
(I'd worry someone might read your draft and take inspiration )

Seriously, right? =D Kids: If you work hard and really try to botch up a draft, you too can 3-0 an 8-4.
Great story for that thread about luck vs skill in poker and Magic hah!
Umm, unsure why my alleged geniousness is tied to this particular draft... ?
Oh! Now I read the previous post.
Well, obviously this didn't go well, but it's worth noting that sometimes your opponents just don't draw well and you are able to play lands and spells and even just an OK deck can get there. Try to remember this when you draft a sweet deck later and bomb out in round 1...
