Everyone voting for the elder has fallen into a classic trap of khans draft: three-color agro. Leaping masters, jeskai elders, and jeskai students do not get along. And, given the defiant strikes, we are looking at running a RWu mana base. We're likely going to end up with five blue sources, maybe six. Do you want to try to run blue two-drops with that mana?
Mantis rider is worth it because it can win games by itself. Jeskai elder isn't even close. The student is the right pick, because the student is castable.
I'm tempted to take Weave Fate, not so much because I like it, but because I don't really like Bloodfire Expert. Still, we need to pick up some prowess creatures to go with these cheap spells, even if it's kinda meh.
Weave Fate or Bloodfire Expert. Which do we have the better chance of wheeling? I dunno. I'll say pick Weave FateBloodfire Expert, but with no convictionbecause half-aggro is not a real thing.
It's between the two blue tempo spells for me, and I'm actually not sure which is better here. Bell Strike is a bit cheaper and can provide a more long term solution, but the cantrip ability on Chill is attractive and it keeps the creature tapped down for at least a turn even in the late game. I think I'm going to vote for Crippling Chill here since we already have a Bell Strike, and drawing two of those late game can be a bad place to be.
I seem to generally agree with Funkenstein3D, but usually lean towards the other choice. And again, the cheaper blue removal and longer lasting effect of Singing Bell Strike wins this for me.
Singing-bell strike is ultimately a punisher-style effect that doesn't work in the exact cases you need it to work. If they don't need the creature, they don't untap it. If they do need the creature, they do untap it. Pretty bad card. The longest lasting effect is actually the chill, because it works as advertised the entire length of the game. SBS just stops doing anything at a certain point.
