I'm sitting here trying to come up with a situation where I would be unhappy to draw Twister in any base green or red deck. Splashes are super easy in the format, bombs are everywhere, big mana is easy to come by...nope. Can't do it. Even if all it is is the ultimate trump card for if things go south, that's still a great draw at any point.
Oh, I know. It's bad when you untap and topdeck it after your opponent casts Emrakul. Waitaminnit...
@sene: i am counting that as a domain deck gone wrong it just seems a little impractical without rampant growths, but good for you if it worked!
Well, I didn't try to draft Domain, so... Rampant Growths and whatnot don't seem particularly stellar in this deck, as you're not really trying to ramp or anything; Sylvan Bounty would honestly be quite a bit better in this sort of deck. To me it seems like you're talking about a different archetype altogether, but what do I know? It was only my first draft.

i know you like drafting grixis, but it's not really a deck in this format - you can certainly go for it, since fixing is easy to come by, but there are no real rewards (except doing what you like, i guess). that deck looks like a weird mishmash of ub and domain which is still competitive due to all the removal you have.
Grixis is definitely a deck, and frmo what I've seen, it's much better to fall in the good cards category than the synergy category in this format. Now, obviously the perfect situation is when you have good cards taht also have synergy, but that's harder to come by.
Again, Savage Twister was a huge mistake at uncommon. I continue to absolutely murder opponents with it because the "synergistic" decks simply can't play around it effectively.
yep, those are just the kind of sweeping generalizations you can make after a couple of drafts. people don't know how to draft good synergy decks yet, it's no wonder goodstuff.dec seems to be the best thing in the format. give it a little time, see if you still feel the same 2-3 weeks from now.
All-the-removal is a deck no matter what the format or how much synergy there is. I haven't seen enough to say it's a top deck, but it's certainly on the list.
I played a draft event last night and went for a full graft deck in UG. I basically got all the graft cards that were in the packs and was able to go 2-1, loosing to the most lucky Dark Confidant I have ever seen (5 lands in a row). As a draft format, I think it's fine, but it's not near as good as the first MM and there are several other formats I would play above it.
My draft table opened 2 cards worth any money, a Kharn and the Dark Confidant. I ended up with (TCG low):
Total: $13.45 in value or 45% of the value of the 3 packs not including prize support. A normal draft costs $12 prior to prize support, so this means I spent an extra $4.55 for the privilege to play MM15 once you subtract out the value of the cards I got AND assume that the other draft had $0 value in it's pool. Needless to say, I feel a bit ripped off.
The general concensious of my play group is that we tried it, but most people aren't going to do it again because it costs too much and the value is very poor.

U/x good stuff was the best deck in the previous MM format, and I feel very, very confident saying that. Now other decks COULD be better when they came together, i.e. U/W artifacts, but I MM1 is one of my better formats ever, and I boast a ridiculous win percentage in the format.
Again, I"m not saying good stuff is "the deck" to be in. I just feel that the deck has a much higher floor than the tribal decks (whcih are just hot garbage when they don't come togehter), while also offering you the potential to have an extremely high power level when things go perfectly.
Also, I'm not even talking about 5 color, or domain or anything. Just focusing on cards that stand on their own power level wise. So removal and quality creatures, basically, with some card draw thrown in if you can get it.
Split the final with this thing:
Algae Gharial did even more work than he did back in Alara. That guy seems pretty easy to support with random Eldrazi Spawn running around.

LOL, wow, haven't tried the format yet but that deck looks surprisingly well-streamlined. Too bad you couldn't get any Scions. Seems like it would have been semi-bonkers in here, though not as much as Algae. I can imagine you just emptied boards with Rusalka and/or Mortarpod and that much fodder.
Yeah. I was on the lookout for Scions, but I only saw three: in my P1P1 (where I took Dismember), my P1P2 (where I took Vengeful Rebirth), and my P3P1 (where I took Vendilion Clique). But they weren't crucial to my deck or anything. Rusalka and Mortarpod were pretty nuts, yeah.
i would have played the third thalid too, helps convoke quite a bit and makes for great sacrifice fodder.
I considered it, but ultimately decided against it; I didn't want too many cards with too little impact, and on their own, the Thallids are pretty weak. Might certainly have been incorrect, but there was some logic behind it.
I like the maindeck Sundering Vitae, I think this is definitely a maindeck disenchant format. Terashi's Grasp has been incredible every time I've drawn it or seen it drawn on a stream.
Yeah, that's been my impression so far too. I've done four drafts, and I've played exactly one maindeck Naturalize-effect every time, and I've prioritized picking up more to board in. Sundering Vitae is great, and Smash to Smithereens is such a beating. I think it's a good idea to consider boarding into a more aggressive deck if you board in a couple, in order to take advantage of the three free damage.
I just drafted B/G again (a very fun archetype!):Gharial was no less impressive this time. The guy is really fierce! I went 3-0 with this one.
I've played the format a ton, won a ton, and Grixis is definitely a deck. Ther'es really not much to be said aside from that. It's consistent and powerful.
You really just need to embrace the rage. I keep a small colony of hamsters next to my computer and every time I lose a match to mana screw I throw one against the wall.

Random stuff $1.50

the difference is that i've played this format 40+ times now, so at least my sweeping generalizations are based on that.
