Can you give some more details about the thread creation and the basics about drafting in forums in general.
What should I do - and what not to.
First time for me.
Well, I suggest simply looking at the threads from last year's duplicate draft. You can look at for example mirrorentity's thread. I post the pack, you reply with the pick (and preferably a quick explanation for the pick), and then I post the next pack, etc.
If everyone in the draft checks in regularly, you can expect somewhere around 5 picks a day. If one or more people are visiting less often (say, once a day), you can expect 1-2 picks a day. We'll see.
Oh, and if you change your mind, post a new post rather than edit your previous post. Otherwise I might not see the edit until it's too late. But there's always a chance that I'll have passed the pack to your neighbor already, so making up your mind before you post is recommended.
If people want to sign up as replacements, I'm sure they'll be appreciated in the coming few weeks. Not everyone always manages to commit to the whole thing. So don't just assume you've missed out if you've run across this in the next few days.
I don't think we're going to need any replacements this time. At this point it doesn't look like that, anyway. The draft is well underway, albeit at a slightly slower pace than last year. I simply have a little more to fill my days with than I did last Christmas
Keep your eyes out for future drafts though; there's always the possibility that I'll do another one at some point. The question is whether I'm going to say the same when we're at pick 40 and I'm long since sick of doing this, heh.
I'd say the draft is going okay so far. The difference between the pods in terms of progression is pretty big though. One of the pods has 18 picks per player on average so far while another only has 7. For those who are waiting for 2-3 days every now and then: it is actually moving forward, we'll get to you soon.
(don't post which pod you think you're on etc; this was just general information)
We now have the first few players finishing the draft. I'll contact you directly about matches etc.
But we have encountered an awkward situation, as one of the participants in the draft has been suspended from the site for a week. As I don't particularly want to put the draft on hold for a week, I would like one of the two replacements to take over (possibly temporarily) if able!
One thing I can say is that I've enjoyed the community draft a lot less than I thought I would. The reason is that I had not realized that stretching a draft over a long period stretches the stresses of the draft. For example at some point during a draft I begin to experience anxiety about my curve (will I have enough low-drops? I need more low-drops!), removal, or mana base. Having to wait days to find out if I'm going to have enough of each is more annoying than I thought it would. Of course, that's my competitive side showing up, I want to perform well.
(I might add that the way I have been conducting my draft only exacerbated the symptoms!)
It is fun, at least for me. It's true that being over a longer period increases the stresses as pierrebai said, but that's not enough to make it unfun for me. Also, it's all worth it at the end when we can play the games against each other and see how it went for the other people that had the same packs (and all the other drafters too).

I completely disagree, I'm loving this. I think it's a really interesting thought exercise, and I'm excited to compare my deck to the other players sitting in my seat when it's all said and done.
Sene, on another note I was wondering if we could have a thread where we post what cards we have available for trade on MTGO to facilitate helping people get the cards they need for their decks.
To maintain the integrity of the pods that are still going it would NOT be a list of what people need, only which cards are available to those who need them, and then transactions/donations can be handled by PM from there.
These things are the greatest. I am extremely grateful to Sene for running them. I know how much work it is, and he handles it masterfully.

Ambush Krotiq makes me laugh so much. I keep rereading the card and it keeps not having Flash. In what sense is this an ambush again? I just have visions of this huge Krotiq poorly concealed in some bushes, feeling slightly sad that his carefully planned ambushes never seem to work.
Thanks folks, it is reassuring. It is fun for me too; I have a thread (which you obviously can't see) in the Duplicate Draft forum where I'm posting my predictions for each pack, observations, surprising picks etc. So that should hopefully be interesting for you to look at afterwards. Plus, I love spreadsheets, and it's satisfying to see everything click, so to speak; adding more functions and information and see it come together is pretty neat. Lastly, it's fun for me if it's fun for you. It's rewarding for me personally to do something like this if people like it.
Anyway, as for Magic Online cards, just like last year, I'm certainly ready and willing to lend cards to anyone who asks. Just post in your own thread and I'll help you out.
It's clear that the issue is with me, I'm over-anxious waiting for the next pick.
I look forward to people criticizing my draft and people understanding why things happened the way they did.
Yep, you're a terrible person! No just kidding of course. I think your perception of the wait between picks is totally valid, I just wanted Sene to know that plenty of people appreciate his work and I'd be happy to play in these any time.
Also, I looked up who got banned recently and frankly, his ban is for very minor stuff, use your connection to get him unbanned early!
I do agree that it's fun to know why the draft went the it did, but to be honest, since I've been doing my drafts at FNM recently, I get to talk live with the other drafters, so this is less unique than for people who are solely on MTGO. Still, at FNM, I can't replay pick by pick, just get explanation why the guy sitting next to me went this way or that, the big picks. This is much more detailed.

This sounds fantastic. One of the few downsides last time was that getting access to the full forum afterwards was a massive infodump - be nice to have a little guidance to what went on and where to look.
True, true. Last year was basically a wall of numbers and facts, and hard to know where to even begin. I wanted to write an article about the draft last year, but I was a bit burned out when the draft finally finished, and couldn't muster the effort. This time the draft is a bit more reasonably sized (24 players instead of 40), and I've been writing while the draft was going on rather than after.
But I'll still include all the data, and probably upload the spreadsheet.

Heh. I sympathize, but I'm no longer an admin (or even a mod), and I don't really want to deal with that stuff. Besides, this is not really the place for it.
Just wanted to chime in with how much i'm enjoying this as well. Since I'm not the most experienced drafter, I can't wait to see both the how and why of each player's picks.

You hadn't yet posted your thread as the packs went around. I've been visiting people today, but I'm back now & doing the rounds.
Edit: You haven't posted a thread still!
