Sacred Armory
How high of a pick do you think this card is? Is it pickable before you know what sort of deck you're playing? It seems like it would be very good in W, U, or B. My guess is it's about a 4th pick type card, though I am famously bad at prerelease card assessment. Thoughts?

I think you only want bad firebreathing in blue, and even then yeah mid pack pick. Blue has the artifact sub theme to synergize with it, it has the evasive creatures to force in the damage and it has the high toughness ground stallers that are more safe to dump a bunch of mana into so you don't get time walked by a lightning strike or something. For other colors I wouldn't want to go like armory on 2, carrion crow or krenko's enforcer or w/e on 3, then attack and pump twice on 4 and get ulcerated in response while my opponent went 2 drop 3 drop 3 drop.

"A scrupulous writer, in every sentence that he writes, will ask himself at least four questions, thus: 1. What am I trying to say? 2. What words will express it? 3. What image or idiom will make it clearer? 4. Is this image fresh enough to have an effect? And he will probably ask himself two more: 1. Could I put it more shortly? 2. Have I said anything that is avoidably ugly?"
Is it bad firebreathing? It can affect any/all of your duders, and seems powerful in the late game (ideally you'll be playing four drops yourself.) It looks like a nice mana sink to me. As I said before, though, I am the guy who called Marshmist Titan the top black common for Born of the Gods...

I think it's more useful for the threat of activation, and it's not something you'd want to play on turn two unless you've got nothing better to do, but the ability to at least threaten to trade up can be useful psuedo-evasion. In your example, if they dropped a Necrogen Scudder, your Carrion Crow would be unable to swing normally. But with Armory out, you can swing, threaten the trade, and if they don't take the bait, still play out your four mana creature. You're not going to use it for pumping just for damage unless you have nothing better to do with the mana, but I can see you getting away with a lot of strong plays off the basis of "If you block/attack, I'm going to use this to make my tiny dude trade with your big dude. Do you want that?"
Well for instance a tyrant's machine is a lower rarity, has the same upfront cost, and i think a more beneficial effect that's harder to punish. The armory starts to get better as you get way up in the 8+ mana range since the tyrant's machine can only tap once a turn and use 4 of your mana but i just don't think armory is a very high pick or that most colors can safely utilize it until the very late game and by then you'll have souls and doom engines and ancient silverbacks running around.

Wow, I thought this was a really strong card for the white token strategy that seems to be that color's focus... but that was when I thought it said "creatures you control," not "target creature."
