Here is the deck I played at GP Philly. Just wondering looking at it how strong you guys think it is. It was really the only two colors I could play from the pool(i'll post whole pool later). Just wondering if you thought it was 7-2(day 2) worthy.
Match 1: Got eidolon of countless battles on skyguard both games and played ornitharch both games, won fairly easily vs a bad B/G deck
Match 2: Played a former Pro Tour Player who had a bye. Game 1 I won with 1/1 ornitharch token bestowed with aqueous form, ghostblade eidolon, and hopeful eidolon. Game 2 he SB in scouring sands and anger of the gods and had no chance. Game 3 we both mulled to six. He playe divination, then menomic wall into divination and beat me with too much card advantage.
Match 3: Played W/B control. Up 30-6 in game one and punted a little bit. He got scholar of athreos and a servant of tymaret/springleaf drum combo to grind me out. Matches 2 and 3 Elite Skirmishier went nuts with a nyxborn eidolon bestowed onto it and then kept targeting it with cantrips and retraction helix to get damage through.
Match 4: Played a Boros deck that got Hero of Iroas out on turn 2 both games, in combination with 2 loyal pegasus I just had no chance.
Match 5: Janky R/G deck with no removal and no evasion. Just beat him with skirmisher triggers and evasive fliers.
Match 6: Played a B/G/R deck with bolt, xenagos planeswalker, asphyxiate, eater of the hope, and some burn. Punted game 1 with not blocking and taking 3 burn to the face. Games 2 and 3 I just won with prescient chimera with ghostblade eidolon bestowed on it.
Record and Final Thoughts
So i was 4-2 and needed to be 7-2 to go to day 2. I just didn't feel my deck was good enough to go 7-2. It was getting really late and I had to work and overnight shift at work so wanted to get some sleep.
On the deck, I think I was like a voyage's end and/or a god's willing short of being a 7-2 deck. I lost to faster decks where voyage's end would of helped and I lost to any deck that had removal where god's willing would of been a blowout. Overall I was very happy with my deck and being my first GP was proud of my record.
I don't think a God's Willing/Voyage's End would have pushed you into 7-2 territory. UW heroic with no Wingsteed Riders, no Favored Hoplites, no Battlewise Hoplites, no Wavecrash Tritons and only one Akroan Skyguard isn't really anything to write home about, even with an Eidolon of Countless Battles. Not to mention that you had no Griptides or Divine Verdicts and only two instant tricks. The deck's just okay. I'm impressed with the 4-2. =)
lol thanks. The deck had a lot of power but just wasn't fast enough for a U/W deck, it was mostly a U/W midrange deck with a little aggro. The instant tricks really hurt me as even though I had a lot of cantrips they go tme 2 for 1'd a lot.
Elite Skirmisher was basically my MVP as I had a lot of ways to target it(even though not at instant speed) and could push in the last bits of damage.
This feels like the kind of deck that would go 2-1 in a three round tournament. Solid, with a nice early curve. So I'd say your deck would probably be a 6-3 deck at day 1 of a GP.
That said it doesn't take a whole lot to go right for a 6-3 deck to go 7-2.

A deck that you'd expect to 2-1 a three-rounder doesn't equate to a deck you'd expect to 6-3 over nine rounds! Although 6-3 seems like reasonable enough territory for this one, which is certainly better than 'just ok' for this sealed format - plenty of power here and a far better than average creature base for sealed, even though the interaction is a tad sub-par. I don't think I could have dropped at 4-2 with this. Win the dice roll three times, get some decent draws and you could very well get there.
Definitely would not have dropped at 4-2. To go 7-2 you are going to have to win 3 in a row at some point.
