First off, thanks to everyone that came out to our last Legacy for Duals tournament a few weeks ago. It was a pretty good success, we had 22 players and handed out 2 Tundra's, a Scrubland, and a Taiga, along with about $100 in store credit for other finishers.
We will be holding another one, on Sunday April 13th. This time we are going to aim at starting at 11am instead of 1 pm. I had gotten some interest from people living 3+ hours away, and starting earlier will make the drive home not so late should any of those people decide to make it this time around.
Here is the Prize Pool I have lined up for it:
1st Place: Volcanic Island
2nd Place: Badlands
3rd Place: Plateau
Same jist as before, prizes are contingent on having 8 players, 100% of entry fees past 8 players will be added to the prize pool, and all prizes can be redeemed in store credit to instead get a different dual land, or anything else in the store if you so desire.
I've again, made a Facebook event with all the details. I'll post back with the flyer when we have one made up as well.
Legacy at the Core in Cedar Falls on Saturday, August 9th at 1pm, $25. Prizes are non-blue duals and store credit, your choice. 100% of entries are to be paid out in prizes/credit. Last couple times there have been just over 20 players. Here's their flyer:
Are there any large events coming up in Iowa? I returned to the area last month, and I just barely missed Legacy for lands at the Core
I've been trying with Critical Hit Games to get monthly tournaments going, but turn out has been worse than bad. Is legacy still played in Iowa outside of causal 6 player gatherings/proxy tournaments?
Also does anyone know what happened with Battlezone in Cedar Rapids? Their website seems to be broken, and I when went to the store a few weeks ago for legacy, it was WAY different from what I remember from last fall.
As for Battlezone I don't think they do anything with Legacy any more. We started a legacy tournament every Sunday at the core with legacy staples for prizes and it was a pretty successful local thing (8 - 12 players every Sunday). With the start of the NFL season that number was going to drop significantly so we stopped for now. Been talking about starting up on a different day possibly for now. I'll definately post on here if we figure it out. Also will try to talk to the Core and see if we can get an official "advertised" legacy event in the upcoming month or two.
Please post on here if there is anything legacy related going on in Iowa anytime soon!
One or more of the owners of Battlezone bowed out, and as such the store had to downsize in space in order to stay viable. I'm curious myself as to how that will affect their tournaments, but considering that the States tournaments have moved to Des Moines this fall, I don't think it looks good.
I am currently working on scheduling a Legacy Tournament for December at the Core in Cedar Falls. I am curious as to what would work better for people, the Saturday BEFORE Christmas, or the Saturday AFTER? Or possibly even something weird like on New Years Day (It's a Thursday)?
For prizes I am thinking on the following:
1st: Lion's Eye Diamond
2nd: Dark Depths/Mox Opal (undecided)
3rd: Umezawa's jitte
4th: Sensei's Divining Top
I would be interested in your guy's feedback on the dates and prizes. Unfortunately, with the rise in Dual Lands, offering them as prizes would require, what I feel, to be a high entry fee/threshold of players. With whats selected above, I can keep it at $15/8 players. As always, 100% of entry fees go to prizes, so with a high turnout the potential is still there.
I won't be able to schedule the date through WER until around Halloween, so I'll check back by then and take your guy's opinions into consideration.
The weekend before Christmas would be best, I tend to travel a lot in the time between Christmas and New Years for family events, so I probably wouldn't be able to make the tournament if it was the week after.
The prize list looks good, but I would take Dark Depths over Mox Opal for second. Mox Opal is much more of a modern card than it is a legacy one.
Looking forward to the tournament! I'll check back to see if the dates have been finalized over the next few weeks, and thanks for continuing to support the format!
Just a heads up for anyone interested, the tournament is scheduled for Saturday December 27th. I had to go with the saturday after Christmas because there is a D&D event the previous Saturday.
Cost is $15 with the following prizes:
1st: Lion's Eye Diamond
2nd: Dark Depths
3rd: Umezawa's jitte
4th: Sensei's Divining Top
