Southwest? Westmont has monday night Legacy, lotta players there but the timing is the worst (who really wants to play mtg on a MONDAY night?!)
Who has the time on a monday night.... Unless your like 5 min away.
I don't know if anyone knows a local shop that isn't doing anything on saturday/sunday already. Maybe try and start something up?
There has to be enough people in the area to support a weekly legacy event.
EDIT: Sorry for double post mods, but i felt this was a movement forward in discussion and warranted its own post and its nearly a week later.
I am looking for a play group in the area, for eternal formats. Atm I am playing legacy and vintage, and will be making a modern deck shortly. I am new to the chicago area, but live in the NW suburbs. For local tournaments I have found a few, although not always convenient at least they start later in the day to allow you time to get there after work...
http://www.xtremegamesonline.com/ - has legacy saturdays, and vintage every 3rd sunday of the month.... if you want to carpool its a really good store.
http://www.pastimes.net/ - has a weekly legacy thursday tournament starts at 7pm and only costs $5
Hmm... Might be able to make the saturday one. Its just hard to motivate myself to drive an hour plus for a tournament. But at this point probably beats not playing.
All i play is legacy, probably why i cant find anywhere to play.... Another option is if we find enough people can do something outside of a shop or attempt to get something started somewhere more centrally located. I have seen in some areas like bookstores and such host tournaments as well.
I guess at this point what we need first is a community or group of people. And start working from there maybe? See where everyone is located. and when they're available.
Are you all on facebook? I can create a group on there, and we can try to find more people, we get 5-10 people we can start holding our own events if we have too, or motivate stores to hold them for us.
Also nice to have people to play test and trade with.
I only play eternal(but might get back into standard with The Return to Ravnica!!!)
I think the issue is that the Chicago area is fairly large The upper north side Chicago people and the west suburb people are probably not going to find a place where they can meet simply due to traffic issues. And there do not seem to be a whole lot of legacy players outside the ones who go to pastimes and hotsaucegames. If you guys start anything I'll keep an eye out, if it's something like saturday afternoons I'd likely be up for it!
Looks like there are at least a few people so far. I guess the next issue is where are people from. So we can start looking at maps and whats "local"
Can start putting a list together.

The chicago area is huge. However, Its so densely populated I have to imagine even sectioning it off there are enough people to create an event/group in more localized sections. The bigger issue here is that none of the stores support the format. And not that i blame them, standard and draft make them a TON more money. But if we can get the crowd and steady flow of business. Someone will host it. All they care about is gettin people in the shop and buying product or spending money. Just usually legacy means like 3-5 people. Standard = 20+
Edit: absolute worst case scenario, we meet some people and can just play/playtest with even if theres no "official" tournament. From the sounds of it, those that have responded share a similar problem as me. Have the cards and no where to go or no one to play with.
Im not from chicago, but before my wife moved out of Napervillie (sp?) there was a shop not far from where she lived I belive is called cards and comics witch does legacy, standard, and sometimes vintage.

If wizards would print a green, black and white version of Hydroblast and Blue Elemental Blast Painter could be done in every color.
And Comics, or Grahmcracker Comics. They only do Standard FNM and draft/Sealed on sundays and i think EDH or something on Sat maybe.... And CoD use to do monday night Legacy every week. However that isn't hosted anymore either.
I think the crowd that use to do the eternal formats has pretty much moved on or gone elsewhere.
I'm in Elgin. I've talked to a local shop in the last hour or so, after having the only Legacy game around canceled, and they said they would run Legacy events if at least 8 players were willing to commit.

Elgin would be cool, I live a half hour away. I went to hotsaucegames (mentioned on page 1) once recently and they get a great turnout, and the kids there have real Legacy decks too. However I can barely make it by 7 on monday from where I'm coming from, so I don't know if I'll be back a whole lot.

The shop, or two shops now, are Modern Age Comics, and the Gaming Goat. Modern Age would even devote an FNM slot to it if players could be had, and they have a sliding prize scale based on attendance. The drawback to MA is their singles pool is small right now, though I heard they were expanding it, having just hired someone to oversee their MTG sales.
I've never played at the Gaming Goat, only shopped there, but I know their cases often have high-value legacy cards. I haven't gotten a solid day from them, they seem to want me have a list of commited players before taking too much time with me. Fair, since I'm not a regular there, yet.

I've pinged the guys at the Goat about running Legacy. They're also opening up a new shop in Schaumburg soon. is that a more attractive site for people? I'm in the sticks, I have to travel to play anywhere. If there were visible interest in running Legacy at one of their locations I'm sure they'd give it strong consideration. Schaumburg has a certain amount of accessibility thanks the highways.
