I suppose it's true. Though the logistics implied in a human/Great Wyrm Prismatic Dragon pairing makes me shudder.
...Something tells me that even should all arcane casters in the world unite, that the Grease spell would NOT be sufficient.
So has anyone had any success building something controllish to squash Gobs and Thresh? We had a few metadecks that looked promising a few months back. Did any of them take?
I have personally been working on Death and Taxes, which pounds Goblins pretty well, and is a little better than 50/50 against Solidarity/Spring Tide, but lacks proper offense to profit from its control against Thresh.
I have spoken to a number of people who believe that Slivers could break through. With a gameplan similar to Thresh, and a better matchup against Gobs, it seems to have a lot of potential. Also, the standard Threshold defenses don't work against it.
The BWG board sweeping control decks do well against Slivers (I have tested this with Dirt agains a few opponents), but not much else. We should, as a consensus, find some things out imo. Does anyone know the following for certain?
1. Slivers matchups versus some popular decks
2. Good strategies to fight Slivers
3. Is it really good enough to bother with
4. Anything else?
Slivers have the best matchup of any tempo deck game 1 vs Sun Tower. Unfortunately for them, even with tutorable Harmonic Sliver, it's still not even or near their favor. Depending on how well they know the matchup, game 2 is a complete blow out to close (if they have a total of 4 harmonic slivers and remember to leave in STPs). However, they tend to not have a very good game against my Welders and Razorcores since they usually choose to board out STP or not board it in.

I agree that Slivers could break through in Columbus, depending on how many people play the deck, the skill of the pilots, and of course luck. As with any deck, you gotta avoid the bad matchups as much as possible.
My UWg Countersliver build beats Goblins, Solidarity, and Hatfield Thresh. It goes about 50/50 with Bardo Thresh (stupid Meddling Mages). It goes about 55/45 with Deadguy Ale. It loses game 1 to Stax decks, but typically crushes them after sideboarding in 4 Harmonic Slivers. It has a tough time with Faerie Stompy and Angel Stompy in game 1, but once again can side in Harmonic Slivers for a crushing. Rifter is a tough matchup, as is Landstill. Slivers pretty much roll over and die to The Rock and Truffle Shuffle.
Barring a major shift in the metagame to board-clearing control decks, CounterSliver is poised to become a dominant deck in the format. I think it could potentially displace Threshold as a Tier 1 deck.
Or maybe I'm full of crap. Everybody ignore everything I just said. I want to sneak up on people in Columbus.
How do you see the metagame having changed since Gencon? Back then we had solidarity, goblins, thresh as main 3, with some other decks following along closley (landstill, pikula, salvagers, tendrils) and then in the next level down stuff like rifter, survival, stompy of all colors, and then even less stuff like trainwreck (may have forgotten something important, but just typing/thinking as I go).
Since then I think iggypop/tendrils stuff and fish has popped up more than it had, plus landstill might have regained some popularity along with faerie stompy leading the stompy decks. Of course it's hard to tell with limited #s of events. The Top 8 where a loam deck won, and ghoul did alright is interesting though I don't know much about the tournament: http://sales.starcitygames.com/deckdatabase/deckshow.php?&t%5BC1%5D=leg&start_date=2006-10-22&end_date=2006-10-22&city=Kobe&country=JP
I'd like to see a report on the gp dallas side event. Sorry, I never get time for magic anymore, plus I'm going to play an extended ptq this weekend in chicago and then i'll probably pick legacy back up.

I still say that every player should atleast try out the Sliver matchup. It is a very good deck. But far more important now is to test against wastedlife's TES deck. It is a really fast combo deck. But the primary reason is that it has the attention of the New York scene. And like it or not, those are the people who are capable of calling enough attention to new archetypes to make them mainstream.
I would have to agree with Finn TES is going to be the deck that causes legacy's banned list to change...It does degenerate things and a good pilot can play around anything. Ive seen people play around 3 forces as well as multiple chalices ranging from 0-2. All that being said it is extremely had to play well but is relatively cheap to build.
Z, I think the hate is just wrong for it. FoW and Chalice are both subpar in my opinion. So is Meddling Mage, True Believer, etc. Kudos to Bryant for keeping all this in mind when designing it.
Trinisphere, Smokestack, Chalice @ 2, Wasteland, and Crucible all seem to be highly effective. Combo this with cheap mass removal and you seem to have a winner. If only someone would build a deck capable of doing all this...
So do you have such a deck, em? You meant Stax, right? Have you had success with it? Does this site even have a Stax discussion?
See my Sun Tower thread for the primer. It's out of date right now. I'm still testing the meta spots to see if I really want Aether Flash MD and what the board should look like for what kind of meta, but the general information is pretty good.
Ok, so how else do you think the metagame has shifted. i know when this thread was created they really wanted us to focus on that and i'm trying to be a good sport. brandon wish me luck playing stupid this weekend :-P
oh, btw, the local shop is having a 15 proxy type 1 later this month.
I also live like 10 minutes from the GP site, so if you're coming into town for the event, I might let you stay with me for free. But it's seriously doubtful unless I like you (Mr. Nightmare? <3)

Prepare for combo, I'm planning on winning Columbus too.
I hope your first match-up is against someone who can really run R/G Stax and knows TES inside and out, I think thats the only way you wont win...good luck

I've tested Vs. Sun Tower, it's not as bad as a match-up as people say.

I think in the right hands it can be a pretty tough match-up, that being said you probably wont run into a good pilot. I guess you just have to see discard.dec to keep you down.

I doubt there will be much that changes in the format until then, and as such, you'll probably find me as the only Stax player there, unless I drag some teammates.
Wrong I've been playing stax since before you guys released it.

Asking people to remove quotes in their signatures is tyranny! If I can't say something just because someone's feelings are hurt then no one would ever be able to say anything! Political correctness is stupid.

BTW, I recommend Sphere of Resistance and Glowrider for anti-combo defense instead. But you know that.

Yay, sanctioned Legacy, 24k, and 3 rounds free up for grabs. :-D

Why are all of the trial locations surrounding Ohio? Is this on purpose? Could this mean that another GP could be in store for the West Coast?
And I suppose Orlando would be too much to ask for.
Either that, or Red Death.:D
