So after some work and a few purchases, I've managed to update my old Stax-esque Pox deck into the version above.
I'm wondering on a few of the card choices and where I should go from here, and what else I should try to invest in.
I know I should probably get another 2 Wasteland to finish out my packaged, and maybe another Urborg. A single Tomb of Urami seems like it would be a nice alternate win condition and I could probably use an Undiscovered Paradise for the Retrace tricks.
The Rituals are iffy, sometimes they help accel into something like a Crucible or Tombstalker, other times they're just Pox fodder... not sure if I should replace them with something else like Mox Diamond, but I'd have to save up for those. Is there anything else worthwhile for this spot? Maybe some more removal like Innocent Blood or Smother?
I've really been liking the Night's Whispers since this deck seems to burn its hand inadvertently, but I'll admit the life loss hurts at times. Again, is there something else I could use in this slot instead?
Thanks again for your help, I'd like to keep playing this deck if I can keep it competative enough, it's really fun for some reason =)
I would play sensei's divining top in place of night's whisper; but to utilize it fully you need shuffle effects/fetchlands which cost about the same as mox diamond but are easier to obtain now that they are going to leave extended soon people will be trading them away before they lose value (I doubt they will since they have become a staple in vintage and legacy like that of duals)

"Yawgmoth," Freyalise whispered as she set the bomb, "now you will pay for your treachery."
Is there anything else that I could use in the meantime? Fetches are definitely on my list of things to get, since I have Meathooks built minus the lands at the moment.
And what about Dark Ritual?

My Black & Silver Cube [360/Peasant/Draft It! EDH Decks: - Reya Dawnbringer // - Mistform Ultimus // - Balthor the Defiled // - Urabrask the Hidden // - Mirri, Cat Warrior
I figured that the Mind Peels would go to the Tombstalkers and the Crucibles, I'm also gonna see if on Tuesday I can pick up some Duress or another Rack or 2.
So I decided to build Pox. Mostly it boiled down to, I thought that playing Pox, while I'd probably fail at it at first (I'm not very good), it would teach me a lot more about playing magic. Also, Pox i find a tad cooler and cheaper than Affinity. And I like how Pox doesn't have a set list, which means I can "upgrade it" over time. Here's the list.
Now, it comes to a huge problem for me, among many, that I have. What to sideboard out. I always throw together a sideboard for the deck, then when its time for games, I play G1, then muse through my decklist wondering what to take out. I don't want that to happen! So I want to have prepared SB plans. they won't be set in stone of course, but a fallback for each MU. So I'd love some tips on what to take out.
You run 4 crucible of worlds? That seems like a mistake right there. Also in a crucible build you want to run mox diamond's, not dark ritual's because of the synergy of crucible + diamond.
Depending on your meta you might take out the totems for chimeric idol. I know the totem has the T: Add B ability which is nice but the card can make you lose a lot of cards which is usually a bad thing. If only you could discard cards to totem along with being able to sack permanents I think it would be golden but as is the card is subpar especially with goyf in the meta.
Maybe add in 1-2 raven's crime and 1-2 undiscovered paradise? Very nice trick right there with crucible

well i dont have mox diamonds so that right there is a no go.
for the totem i did think of replaceing it with idol but the way the meta at my local store is i dont have to worry much about burn and no one has any goyfs. only real problem i have with idol over totem if i got a scroll in play i like to save it till the end of their turn just incase they drop a small creature.

"Insanity is knowing that what you're doing is completely idiotic, but still, somehow, you just can't stop it."
If they play a small creature you can just kill it the next turn with your untapped lands and then activate idol to swing for three. Totem and scroll don't work together because you almost never have 6 mana available

WOW that card. It seems interesting the only drawback to that draw seven card is that it suffers from what yawg's agenda does: You can only play 1 spell and turn and what if you reveal a bunch of land with it? You can't use them with retrace I'm guessing. Also it does cost a lot of mana; I'd rather play phyrexian arena seeing as how it costs 1 less and allows you to play more than 1 spell per turn

Colfenor's Plans is an interesting suggestion that I have never considered before. I would only play it if I were also playing Phyrexian Totem, for two reasons:
-The Totem helps us reach 4 mana
-The Totem gives us a way to sacrifice our used-up or near-used-up Colfenor's Plans so we can get our drawstep back.
It looks like it could have potential, though I would argue the build would also need to run 4x Mox Diamond. At first I wanted to say it will work very well with Cursed Scroll, but then I realized it's a bit of a coinflip; you need to have one card in your hand, but keep that card in your hand, because once it goes then you'll be stuck at zero cards in hand until you can sac the Plans (or tap your Undiscovered Paradise :p).
The changes are almost completely beneficial to us. It will be harder to pump to save a Factory, but remember, the opponent now has to announce, after blockers are declared but before damage is assigned, which target they intend to assign lethal damage to foremost, at which point we can pump that factory or do it however we would do it.
Funeral Charm can't turn their 1/3 blocker versus our 2/2 attacker into a 3/1 after damage is on the stack, but scenarios like that are almost nonexistent.
Basically, we will have to worry less about our opponents' attempts to save their creatures while trying to still eliminate ours in combat.
Oh, and we'll have to annoying refer to the battlefield throughout the match and then cry ourselves to sleep at night while reminiscing the better days of Magic. ...I give free permission to quote this in your signature. :xd:
In other news, crazy nitwits playing dress-up have also convicted the Hamburglar, the Cookie Crisp Crook, and the Frito Bandito of sundry snack-related thefts.
Seriously, what about this strikes you as remotely worthy of discussion?
I have too many other good two-drops to really warrant it, I feel. It's also more susceptible to CB and spellsnare and only generates advantage once, whereas phyrexian arena is a consistent engine over time which I can self-destruct via totem if necessary.
My only problem with arena is that a resolved pox puts a big damper on how long I have to live with it in play. Skeletal scrying and such cards pose the same problem, but as it stands night's whisper feels a bit too underwhelming.
As for Nihilith, it has been completely all-star. Fear ensures a clock versus A LOT of good decks right now, and the fact that I run both smallpox and pox ensures that this guy comes out really quickly. Its not entirely necessary to lay him turn 2 before you would disrupt with something like smallpox or hymn to tourach. VS midrange decks I always have time to lay him first, but even if he comes down later he's still going to do the job - which is to chip away the last bit of life they have after a pox has dented them. I've tried a bunch of creatures and win-cons in the slot and for some reason I am still drawn to this card. People don't anticipate fear, nor do they anticipate him coming into play so quickly.

I understand Nihilith is a great clock, but he can eat removal or a cs after suspend. My testing at my local GS saw him resolving and getting Char'd, Javelin'd, Exile'd or Sworded. (Same can be said for Tombstalker though). But my testing of mono color is limited, I play B/W Pox so I only use Stalkers, Factories, and Cursed Scroll for win cons.
Yeah I see your point but I'd still say nihilith is hardly more susceptible than tombstalker. I may go down to 2 nihilith and squeeze in a non-creature wincon outside totem?

Maybe put in a nether spirit? The card is really solid in the deck since it recurs all day against landstills factories. Also tombstalker and volrath's stronghold help the GY to stay clean.
Only reason I don't like nihilith is for the reason that they can just wait it out and when his last counter is removed they just counterspell it or something

The point of pox as a deck in general is to exhaust resources anyways so that there is little / nothing remaning to deal with your threats. Nihilith has been in the build for a few months now and I've playtested with it easily over 100 times.
Spot removal is as big a problem for nihilith as it would be any other creature, except nihilith is a 4/4 with haste if suspended. I will try spirit though, it would be nice even as fodder to a smallpox / pox.

Yeah nether spirit costs 0 mana whereas nihilith is 1B plus a turn because you probably won't be able to cast anything else which is a problem. With the spirit you can cast your pox or small pox and not miss a beat this deck relies on tempo and nihilith is very bad tempo in a deck that doesn't get a lot of mana (usually). Casting a pox effect on them and getting a creature out of it is just too good to pass up seeing as how nether spirit can keep on blocking a goyf if your GY remains clean
