Reejerey's ability doesn't go on the stack when you announce you're casting, you have to complete all the steps of casting the spell (pay costs, etc) before the ability triggers.
That's actually what I meant, my wording wasn't precise.
I'm new to Fish, and just wanted to know the necessity of Stifle. Is it primarily to there to negate Fetchlands. Beyond that (or Wasteland) I can scarcely think of any target to justify it MD.
Like I said, new to Fish and still testing how it plays. Please explain to me some of the reasoning behind consistent MD.

Stifle lets you play a tempo/mana denial game with Daze and Wasteland. It isn't really necessary as the deck can be played all out Aggro. Being able to Stifle fetchlands and have Wasteland can be useful in some matchups and Stifle also stops Engineered Explosives, Pernicious Deed, and a few other things.

I currently play only two formats, what I play in them is:
Legacy: Domain Zoo, RGW Zoo, Merfolk, Solidarity, Mono Black Aggro
EDH: Kagemaro, First to Suffer
I'm hoping it's a 1 drop similar in style to a wild nactl personally. Have a plains, it gets shroud and +1/+1 or something relevant. Praying it's not another 3 drop!

a Kird Merfolk would pretty neat, definitely. I could definitely see a white splash becoming more mainstream if that was the case. Although there would have to be more than that to make mono-blue irrelevant, because splashing white has significant downsides that balance the positives in my experience.
I've been playing around with dropping Stifle and adding Cosi's Trickster in its place. Has anyone else tried that out?
Overall, I'm still not sure which I like better - the trickster is definitely more aggressive though I won't lie and say I don't miss some of the fun things you can do with Stifle outside the -obvious- "no, no you're not fetch that land."
game 1 is pretty short. i resolve an aether vial and he doesn't. then i follow up with a standstill with daze and Force of will as backup. i win.
the kiras come out for llawans. no other sideboard.
game 2 is tighter. after a counter-war, he ends up with a bigger board than mine. however, i manage to gain some time by using echoing truth on one of his two lord of atlantis in the combat phase and eating his two attackers(a mutavault and a silvergill adetp). Llawan comes down two turns later and he has no answers to it.
1-0
Match 2: Faeries
I'd never seen this deck before. he was running a UBR list with bitterblossoms and spellstuter sprites. he also had a nice counter package(spell snare and force of will). he also made use of maindeck firespout as a sweeper.
Game 1 is really tight. he manages to keep my lords off the table with counters and removal(terminate and smother). however, i managed to land a Kira, great glass-spinner and he had to use a desperate move to get it off the table(his life was low because of bitter and he needed all his attackers to kill me. he forced, pitching a force. I responded with Daze and we laughed it off. his next attack leaves me at 1 life, but then i play echoing truth and he has no answers.
Sideboard: -1 daze, -2 merfolk sovereign, -1 misdirection, -1 standstill
+3 back to basics, +2 hydroblast
game 2: i have two wastelands in my opening hand. i manage to keep him to two lands, while dropping my vial. i force a Back to basics through his counters and he fails to draw any lands.
2-0
Match 3: my opponent doesn't show up. it happens to me too! must be my lucky day.
3-0.
Match 4, playing for top 8: Goblins
scratch that. if this is my lucky day, i'm the unluckiest person alive. i mulligan to six on the draw and keep a one lander. island, cursecatcher, LoA, daze, Force, vial. i don't draw lands. for 7 turns.
-3 i don't remember +3 hydroblast, still angry about that match.
i mulligan a landless hand on the play. i am rewarded with another landless hand.:mad::mad:
guess who won.
and the worse thing is, he had a slow opening both games. no lackey. his first play in the second game was a matron on turn three. so yeah. i dropped one match before prizes. stupid gobos.

Did you expect a blue meta? LLawan seems like it worked, but I don't think I'll ever find another Merfolk deck to play around me.
Did you expect a blue meta? LLawan seems like it worked, but I don't think I'll ever find another Merfolk deck to play around me.
In my meta at least, Merfolk is the most popular deck. Out of the 8-10 regulars at the small tourneys, 3 of us play Merfolk on a regular basis. (Though there was only one time I remember that all of us were playing it on the same day...)
I've had Llawan resolve against me on MWS, it was kinda a blowout. You just don't expect it. Of course, you have to make sure they don't resolve a vial...
Though my usual strategy for the mirror is to get lucky with lords. I haven't lost a match yet using this strategy!

there's like 10-12 people on 40 playing 'folk at our store. and yes, i was expecting thresh and its variants to be popular, along with storm and other counterspell decks(bant, countertop, etc). scouting proved me right, as there were 7 storm decks in the room. I think i'm going to cut the grave-hate for this meta. i havent seen ichorid or reanimator in ages.
EDIT: yeah, so i lost to goblin again tonight. he had the BR versions with cruel edicts for my kiras. -_-
any hopes of making this a better matchup? it keeps me from top-8ting everytime.
Two days ago, I participated on a small Legacy gathering (about 10 people). I would usually play my Elves deck but decided to play Merfolk to spice things up. It was spicy but it was way too spicy for me.
G1: I didnt really know what he was running. I saw Islands, it made me smile. Thinking that he was running either Landstill or MUC, I started countering his counters that were hitting my Vial. Once I have Vial online, We had another counter wars against my Landstill. I thought he was playing MUC but at this point, I did not see any manlands. I had a couple guys going. I got him at the red zone when he started getting his combo pieces online. I got caught with my pants down with no hand. I lost next turn because theres only so much I can do.
G2: I boarded in Pithing Needles and took out Wake Thrashers. I got Pithing Needle online early game by surviving a counter-war. Merfolks got there as he was not able to find his alternative win-con (he could be bluffing as he did not tell me what it was)
G3: He got mana-screwed and Merfolks got there via Islandwalk.
1-0, 2-1
Match 2: Merfolks
G1: Like what I mentioned above, it is my first time playing Merfolk in a formal tournament. I misplayed by forgetting Vial's trigger. We try to outrace each other but that misplayed proved to be the game changer.
G2: I boarded in a couple of Lord of Atlantises for the Echoing Truths and Stifle in for Propagandas. Once again, we tried to outrace each other. I bounced his Vials back to his hand, which saw a counter war. Proved to be the gamer changer and this time I came on top.
G3: I opened with Mutavault and an Island as my lands and kept. I play Mutavault first turn, play Vial, saw a FoW and for some reason I let him counter it. He plays an Island and drops a Cursecatcher. I dropped an Island and hit him for two via Mutavault (I had Reejereys, Sovereigns and counters on my hand). Then on his turn, he drops a Wasteland and wastes my Mutavault. I drew straight lords and no lands. I could only counter so much threat.
1-1, 3-3
Match 3: Affinity
G1: I wasted a couple of his Seat of Synods, Countered Ravager, Vialed a couple Lords and went for the win.
G2: I boarded out Stifles for Echoing Truth and something I cant recall for Pithing Needles. I countered anything relevant that he plays (I kept drawing FoWs and had a lot of early Dazes). Not to mentioned he apparently mana-screwed too. Then he managed to resolve a couple of Enforcers that he got from Thoughtcast. We tried to race each other but Wake Thrasher paired with Minamo and Sovereign got over his iron wall.
2-1, 5-3
At this point a lot of people have dropped. I still have a chance to make top-4 so I played it. Then the moment of truth came:
G1: Early Volcanic Fallouts hurted me a lot. I didnt not see any of my counters, so his Pyroclasms went rampant as well. His 7/7 Crusher crushed my open board.
G2: I boarded in Cursecatchers, Stifles and Wake Thrashers for Kira, Hydroblasts and Echoing Truths. I saw multiple Standstills which protected me. Vial helped in by getting a couple lord online while my Mutavault was having a good time swinging.
G3: This was a close game. I would get a lord online. It would manage to hurt him but he would always find an answer the turn after. I got him to 5 until he got Crusher going. I had a FoW and an E-truth in my hand. He had two cards. He casted his Crusher, I FoWed it and pitched E-truth. It sucks because I forgot red has Pyroblast. On his next turn, Crusher triggered, then drew a Volcanic Fallout. Then he proceeded to double Volcanic Fallout on his turn which brought him down to 1 but cleared my board in returned. I tried to E-truth Crusher to buy me some time but he had REB as backup. Crusher crushed his way through with the help of other Burn.
2-2, 6-5
Since I know him, I decided to just 2-0 on him instead of saying 2-1. This way, he got into top4.
I was wondering if Merfolk could work in my meta. Usually there can be a handful of blue deck (Thresh variants mostly with maybe some blue control like Landstill or MUC), one person playing combo (Storm Combo, pick one, but not Ichorid), a Goblins, a Burn (But no Zoo), but from there, the meta is really diverse. Lots of different things can show up. Some things in the past have been Enchantress, Stax, Survival, Vampires, or random rogue decks. This means that blue is a minority which could be a problem, but red is a minority too. I would say though that blue and red appear in even quantities. Most decks are other colors with maybe a small splash of blue or red instead of those colors being the base of the deck. Could Merfolk work here or are there some different card choices I could use to combat a more diverse, possibly less developed meta?

I'd go ahead and play Merfolk.... still a competitive deck and with no zoo in your meta and one burn you can do pretty well I would imagine. Just make sure to play Wastelands.
So what yall think? Does it make white splash more worth it? Is it better than adept? Im still a bit mad that we didnt get a 2/3 for 1.
This could shore up Merfolk's matchup against Zoo, if you can keep him alive. lifegain + attack/block profitability are both good in the race, plus if you're running white then you also have StP/PtE at your disposal. But what to take out? Silvergill Adept sits at the same spot on the curve, but I hate taking out card draw. Cursecatcher? I love that guy too. Part of me thinks that this guy's only good enough with a lord out. Otherwise 2/1 is just too small to matter in the matchups that you want him in, and considering that you have to water down your mana base to run him, he probably falls into the "not good enough for Legacy" slot.
EDIT: a little part of my brain says that he should be tested in place of Cursecatcher in Zoo matchups (+StP/PtE). Maybe he'll suck, but hey, might as well test. Does anyone see any use for him outside of the Zoo matchup? I feel that the other Aggro matchups Merfolk faces are good enough already, except for Goblins. Would this guy+white splash help at all there? I've never actually faced a Goblin deck with my Merfolk deck, so I only have so much to go off of.
There's a lot of love for the white splash as aggro continues to go strong, so the weakened manabase is probably less of an issue than it's presented as. Especially if you're concerned about Zoo, then splashing white is your strongest option anyway. He seems a bit small though... even 2/2 a'la Meadowgrain would have helped.
@Nightmaster I agree with D-Magic. As evidenced by top-8 finished in big events (in which you must fight through diverse decks to get to the top tables), Merfolk can do well against a variety of decks.
I play merfolk all the time and it's a solid deck the main thing i have realized is that goblins and zoo because of the speed really make it hard for u to get an advantage before they swing for 15 or 20 and burn u down with the rest
i have played with green and goyf splash
and white and swords
but i think if you plan on seeing goyf add three threads to your side board and they r screwed the best goyfs r free goyfs and u make them rethink alot on there hand when the reason they keeped there opener was for second turn goyf and you don't have the extra non basic lands to worry about price or blood moon
and with wite u take out counters for meddaling mage and swords
Please make an effort to use correct spelling and grammar. Warning issued. C_c
I've been looking into making the switch from T2 to legacy, and after doing a lot of research and investing in a playset of FOW's, I decided on Fish. I know there are a few problem matchups in my meta (2-3 zoo, 1-2 gobs/burn), but before I make some more purchases I wanted to get some feedback. Thanks for your help.
2) Use the right number of each card.
3) Know your probabilities.

@Nightmaster I agree with D-Magic. As evidenced by top-8 finished in big events (in which you must fight through diverse decks to get to the top tables), Merfolk can do well against a variety of decks.
2) Use the right number of each card.
3) Know your probabilities.
4) Print your deck lists; make yourself and your judges happier.
i have played with green and goyf splash
and white and swords
but i think if you plan on seeing goyf add three threads to your side board and they r screwed the best goyfs r free goyfs and u make them rethink alot on there hand when the reason they keeped there opener was for second turn goyf and you don't have the extra non basic lands to worry about price or blood moon
and with wite u take out counters for meddaling mage and swords
Please make an effort to use correct spelling and grammar. Warning issued. C_c
