I actually wished I had more Taigas honestly. Especially when it got wasted.
Is this because it is a red source or because it is a red/green source? If its the red source, wouldnt this just be more of a reason to replace it with a mountain?
Probably red/green. After all, this is a NO deck, and that card requires two green. I personally don't like too many Taigas and I would probably hate a Mountain in this deck =P
I tried two Taigas but that sometimes interfered with the main ideal plan: Hierarch, Clique into Order. Tropicals are the most important, followed by Volcanic. It's nice to have a Taiga in there but I would hate to draw two Taigas in a game with NO RUG.
It was for RG. This was partially because of Skinshifter and Scavenging Ooze and the fact that people will always Waste my blue sources first for some reason.
Both lists are a little off from what I would play (especially Sean Ryans, I do not like his land base) but they seem to be doing fairly well in a field FILLED with Hive Mind.
There you go Alex Amato!! 2 x Jace, tms in maindeck. That`s the way to do it!!
He also plays just 2 Bolts. Fire/Ice is so awesome
But i`m super curious about his reasoning to play 2 x Ancient Tomb on sideboard..! O.O
Any suggestions?
EDIT: Is it becouse his 4ccs spells will be increased when he sides thrunn and 3rd jace in against control (not to mention to pay 5 to zenith thrunn in play)? I think that is main reason but any other situations where it is handy to have couple Ancient Tomb in main? vs stax?
Ya I thought that was weird as well.
Perhaps, but Stax cannot beat this deck unless they have Moat, as a resolved NO is just game over for them.
Sylvan Library is much more powerful that Mirri's Guile since it does allow you to pick up extra cards if needed. For example, you are facing a match up where you get your opponent really low with Progenitus, say 7 life. You are out of cards in hand. Library allows you to trade life to draw multiple burn spells if they are needed.
I don't actually believe I needed BoP over the weekend. Siding in a Mountain for my Island worked fine every game I think.
Mirri's Guile is not worth it. Library is, I would definetly try one over a Ponder.
And I've never had a need for a BoP. The reason Hierarch is so good is not only because it can tap for U, but because it sacs to NO AND gives you Exalted when trying to race with a Clique. I would play 5 Hierarchs if I could, but I would not play 5 1 mana dorks if all 5 of them couldn't be Hierarch.
Are green fetches vital in this deck? Sean Ryan got there without them...
Any idea what would have been sided out for the Ancient Tombs? And for what match ups?
Sorry, not a fan of alterations on old cards that are in limited supply. They represent a part of the game's history, and in my opinion altering them shows scant regard for that.
I would run Stifle. We have the colors and the ramp to pay off a single trigger most likely, so stifle would force 3 pacts
I would not play Sprite as it has the same net as stifle, but costs more, and is killed by Spell Snare (remember, hivemind works FOR us when we cast first)
MD Terastodon is interesting, I have found Witness lackluster really and was thinking about a 2nd Lavamancer, but Terastodon might be better. Where were you thinking of putting it?
Would I be crazy to suggest dropping Daze completely? I currently run 3, but am not thrilled with it. I feel a 4th Fire/Ice, 4th Clique, and maybe a singleton JTMS might be better
As you can see, I am already down to 2 'goyfs. The main thing I dislike is my inablility to play as many Fire/Ice, Bolts, and Dazes as I would wish (3+ of each). When psh comes to shove, I like Fire/Ice over Bolt for a few reasons. I can pitch it to FoW (not counting Progen I have 18 other blue cards), it is one of the few cards TezzAffinity dislikes game 1 (that deck is a little disproportionately popular here, likely because I was one of its first brewers after opening double Tezz and 3 Skirge at the prerelease), and Ice is always a handy thing to have around.
Right now my gut is telling me to scrap LB for the 4th Fire/Ice and Misstep. Like I said, I'm not too happy with witness, I'll try out Terastodon over it and see what I think.
With 3 Stifle and 3 REB, I like my chances very much vs Hivemind. I board:
-1 Grim, -1 Witness, -3 Fire/Ice (not sure if this is right... Ice on a Monolith is either complete jank or totally epic...), -2 Bolt, +3 Stifle, +3 REB, +1 Terastodon.
Thoughts on Llawan, Cephalid Empress? I initially had 2 vs Merfolk, but REB and Lavamancer hold the fort there pretty well.
Boarding out NO honestly didn't occur to me lol. Why would you want to keep the Lavamancer etc in? Or is it just a consequence of having nothing better?

I would think NO would come out against landstill, since Glacial Chasm > Progenitus. Against Jace decks, though, Proggy > Jace. I think either the dazes/weak burn or the goyfs are the easy cuts there.

You must be thinking about Lands, not Landstill.
Landstill decks are control decks where they rely on incrimental Ca, and either Jace or Mishra's Factories to win.
Lands uses Life from the Loam to stall your opponent out and generally wins with Mind Slaver and Academy Ruins.
Lands plays Glacial Chasm, Landstill does not.
I side 1 or 2 NO's out against Lands, I side 1 against Landstill. I side Jace in against both matchups.
Terastodon vs Non Hivemind Combo to blow up their lands, against Staxx an Enchantress and against Affinity.
I often add him against control when boarding out the meat plan, because theres nothing like NO when they got the wrath and let it reolve, just to find out you took Terastodon.
He's another out against Peacekeeper and Jace and i've gone for 18 Power on my side as well in the late game. Thanks to Noble you can attack without getting chumped dead.
I'd go for Energy Flux instead of Null Rod though, or switch to ancient Grudge imho.
This. It's also nice to kill things like Jace, Aether Vial, Ensnaring Bridge....
Last time i attended to a 32 player tournament i got 4th.. I was intended to write report here BUT:
On semifinal vs UR goodies deck: It was quite fresh deck. It was UR dreadstill as MD but side had tools to transform into Countertop or all out 4 x jace control without Phyrexian Dreadgnought or Counterbalance.
It was 1-1. I was feeding spells on him to clear way for natural order. My last 2 cards were Jace, the Mindsculptor and Natural Order. I had 2 x Tarmogoyfs on board and he had Grim Lavamancer with Basilisk Collar untapped + Mishra`s Factory + many lands. He had 3 cards in hand.
I casted Jace as it`s not nearly as risky as getting NO countered with Tarmo sacrificed. He didn`t Counter my jace. I bounched Grim Lavamancer and he killed one of my tarmogoyfs as response. I had still 1 green creature on my board and he propaply didn`t have counter at his disposal.
On his turn he animated Mishra`s Factory, equipped basilisk collar and attacked jace. Jace was on 2 counters and i wanted to cast NO with tarmo, not save mister jace so he killed my JMTS. Then played Grim Lavamancer and equipped Basilisk Collar on him.
I untapped. Smiling at my last handcard: Natural Order with fatty tarmogoyf ready to be sacrificed. Draw step: Draw Progenitus.
I can`t remember feeling such emotions while playing magic for a while. I lost semifinal 1-2 and played bad in 3rd place match becouse of that and lost it vs 4 colour legacy sliver aggro with 3 copies of Phantasmal Image, another refreshing deck i plan to make myself as my UWB Stoneforge deck has failed ;).
I had to leave tournament with judge foil stifle + 3 x M12 booster as that was 4th prize.
If i had gone to final i had got 6 x M12 Booster + Either Underground Sea or Force of Will depending if i had won.
I couldn`t write report after that.
Wow. That really really sucks. And yes, thats a great reason
I would leave in bolt vs dredge, for two reasons. first, it allows you to kill off a dude of yours to nail bridge easily, and secondly it could help you race. I would rather take out Fire/Ice myself, as most dredge decks are not aiming to win through GGT anymore, but prefer flame-kin or Iona.
Taking out misstep vs Lands is not a good move. Lands is very vulnerable to misstep, in fact, changing this is the main focus of our lands thread right now. I would also not bring in spell pierce, as there are so few spells you can actually counter in that deck, especially after the first few turns. Ignoring Misstep for a second, lands is actually a bad matchup for us (well, a traditional list is). Recurring Wastelands+Ghost Quarter means we will very quickly get locked out of any mana. Don't know about the W-focus list you seemed to have faced though.
Taking out NO vs UW mystic-landstill is interesting... don't know if I would have made that choice. I might have dropped Ponder, lavamancer, and Ooze and not brought in Spell Pierce instead.
Always bring in REB vs UR or mono-R painter.
Thopterfoundry sb looks pretty good. I have found Ooze will simply win this matchup.
Don't know much about creature-less UW Control.
Yes, you took out bolt every time. On the other hand, dredge was the only deck you faced that played more than 10 creatures most likely.
I actually wished I had more Taigas honestly. Especially when it got wasted.
Is this because it is a red source or because it is a red/green source? If its the red source, wouldnt this just be more of a reason to replace it with a mountain?

No, he's right.
For Hivemind, my SB look like this:
-4 NO
-1 Proggy
-1 Grim Lavamancer
+2 REB
+2 Pyroblast
+2 JtMS
Pretty simple no
