Yes legacy is expensive. No there wont be a lot of NEW players that jump into legacy. It does hurt us, thats why modern was made. But for those people who have been playing legacy you realize that you can go to tournaments and win duals and forces and that takes away the biggest chunk of your deck. Once you own your duals, and fetches you can switch between decks for next to nothing. My goal starting out was to get a playset of all the original dual lands (revised, in played condition preferably) then the zenidkar fetch lands (no they are not as good as the Onslaught block fetches, but they are also $30 cheaper than them) then start getting the other staples with my store credit I win from tournaments.
If it helps anyone, in the past 2 weeks or so since I made this list, I decided to update my old red sligh deck to the current version of burn, make a liliana pox deck, and a geddon/prison stax deck, and with the exception of 3 mox diamonds, 2 city of traitors, & 3 flagstones of troikar, I was able to trade for everything else I needed, including urgborg tomb's of yawgmoth, liliana of the veils, and just about everything in mono white stax (though I already owned wasteland thank goodness)
Aggressive trading at many stores with multiple people has gone a long way, and in the end I didn't spend any money, but the last 8 cards I had to trade stuff from my trade to a store, so I took the normal 50% hit on it, but it was worth it considering 85% of what I needed I traded at equal value.
I can now say I have 7 legacy viable decks, that being zoo dredge belcher spiral tide goblins pox & stax, and technically burn so it's 8, but i dont know if ill really play burn more than a couple times lol
Great job, in a single opening post, we could see the prices of all the top legacy decks and all the decklists. This is great information for anyone interested in legacy.
If the store owner says that I can't trade in the premises, I'll just go outside. If he says that I can't trade within 10m of his premises, I'll go to 11 meters. If he says that he doesn't want to see me trading, I will put a basket over his head and continue trading.
Yes, he's a local legend. He's only known to take his clothes off before he goes into the Ladies' Lockerroom. Nobody knows what he does in there because he's invisible, but it's almost certainly tons of masturbating.
It's been a few, and I've been somewhat busier, but I want to do another update soon on this, I think doing an "update" for a "new list" every 3 months or so makes sense, its just long enough time and at the same time, just short enough time, waiting a year would take too long, but doing it every week would consume way too much time for too little change.

Congrats on assembling another Legacy decks. I never feel bad about acquiring Legacy pieces. I'm a bit blown away at the 50% hit when trading the store, but its nice to support your LGS, and if it's a Legacy friendly store its well worth it.
I'm lucky to have so many stores within a hour from me theres some pretty good trades ratios, some stores trading as high as 70%
If I wanted to update this list, more specifically, I'd also want to update the name of the thread itself, since it'd be accurate since June, not April, does anyone know how to change the name of a thread? I have looked over the forum actions and even went to my profile page and I can't seem to figure it out, either cause I am unskilled in this area, or it's just not an option, and if you can't change the name of a thread, well I haven't been able to confirm that either.

I'm pretty sure you can edit thread titles in the "advanced" editing window. It's been forever since I've had to so I could be mistaken.
Thank you snow, I was able to do that and it motivated me to update everything for the past 30 + hours lol, in either case. There's another forum I use but on that one even in advanced I can't seem to change the title, so, w/e.
Also I wanted to keep the old list along with the new updated one, but apparently there's a limit per post and I actually hit it with all my information

The following is just some of the information that was included
Indianapolis, Indiana -StarCityGames.com Legacy Open -2012-06-17: Goblins updated with a "new deckilst" after a 1st place with Brad Campbell
Mono-Blue Control with a 9th place, Dan Musser StarCityGames.com Legacy Open 2012-06-17 (This is the 2nd time since the banning of mental misstep that a Mono Blue Control deck made the top 16, so a "New Deck" was added entirely, adding +1 deck/decklists to the current total
---------------------------------------------------
Detroit, Michigan -StarCityGames.com -Legacy Open -2012-06-24: Lands had a 1st place with Bobby Kovacs, so a "new decklist" was added for lands since the old one is a 2nd place finish
Elves had a 2nd place with Caleb Durward, so a "new decklist" was added for elves, since the old one is a 3rd place finish
-Another thing to note, another mono blue control deck placed in the top 16 here, confirming this deck to be added to the total, thank you Dan Musser for placing 11th with another Island pusher.
---------------------------------------------------
Seattle, Washington -StarCityGames.com -Legacy Open -2012-07-01 Merfolk with a 1st place by Ian Kendall, gives merfolk a "new decklist" since the old one is a 6th place finish, I guess one could say fish isn't dead, it just hibernated for a while.
R/W/B Stoneblade finished 3rd place via Chase Lingelbach, there are so many variants of stoneblade, and there have been previous R/W/B versions that have been scattered about, so a "New Deck" listed as such was added entirely.
Aluren 5th place, Martin Goldman-Kirst. This will bring Aluren to the list, adding +1 to the list of decks/decklists, tallying an entirely "New Deck" since Aluren has placed at least 1 other time in the top 16 in the past 9 months or so
So that is some of what's been added:
New decklists for Goblins, Lands, Elves, Merfolk
New decks for Mono blue control, R/W/B stoneblade, Aluren.
-Also deck's & top 8's / 16's from non scg events have now been included for tournaments with 100+ competitors, including overseas tourneys, utilized from http://www.thecouncil.es/tcdecks/formato.php?format=Legacy&page=1 in addition to top 16's from Starcitygames.com
The next massive update is in as of October 2nd 2012, now a Full 1 years worth of data since Mental Misstep was banned
Everything above/before this specific posting, was in relation to the old list that stopped on July 13th 2012
&
Everything below/after this specific posting is in relation to the newly updated list that now extends to October 2nd 2012
Notes of the latest update:
Since U/W Miracle control is essentially an evolution of U/W countertop, the old U/W Countertop lists, which were only about half a dozen placings total, were merged into U/W Miracle control, there is no longer a separate list for the older countertop deck. If thopterbalance makes a comeback, it will be noted accordingly.
Since RUG Countertop, which only had 2 placings, were lists similar enough to RUG delver, other than Sensei's divining top & Counterbalance of course, there is no longer a RUG countertop list, and those 2 placings were merged into RUG delver's total.
2 NEWLY ADDED DECKLISTS have made it to the list:
Omnitell, giving Show and Tell decklists a split, that of what is mostly Sneak & Show versions, & the newly popular Omnitell which so far has already earned had 7 top placings.
U/B Control had a top 16 recently in the Open series, there was a similar U/B control deck that has made top 16 previous, though it was months ago, it still qualifys as "2 or more" top 16's, so it is noted accordingly.
Metagame notes, the "tier 1" as of this update:
The "big 3" that the format has known for quite some time now: Rug still has the overall highest placings, and continues to lead. Maverick is still a contender, though punishing maverick is still on the list because of it's popularity at an earlier time, that version of maverick is much less common. Stoneblade The trend for more Esperblade & less U/W stoneblade continues, with the lean towards Esperblade. Miracle control could be argued to make up the "big 4" since the deck has been around long enough & has proven itself, since July 13th, it has had the 3rd highest number of top 16 finishes, behind only Rug & Maverick.
Tribal decks: Goblins has had an incredible boost lately, over half of it's top placings in the past year, have occurred in the past 3 months. Merfolk it turns out wasn't dead, it was just hibernating, & it as well has had over half of it's top placings in the past year, occur in the past 3 months. Elves, while not having the same boost as goblins/merfolk, has still continued to show up, usually in the popular form of "combo elves." Zombies Sam Black has had a lot of success with Black/Red zombies, though not nearly as popular the other 3 tribes listed above, the "zombardment" deck has shown up at the top tables now 4 times this summer.
Other notes: Show and Tell continues to have a presence, the card has increased by 20.00$ in the past 6 months, while Karakas has gone up 40.00$ in that same time frame, & now sits at 100.00$ per as of the date of this posting. Dredge/Reanimator still show up in spite of the hate, though not as prevalent as times in the past. ANT is more popular than TES U/R delver / Zoo / High tide / Aggro Loam / Affinity / Burn have all gone down in success compared to a previous time for those decks in the past. Lands pulled off a 1st place when most everyone was probably thinking the deck was dead. Belcher seems to have 2 variants, if the deck isn't aggressive enough, a "wishless" version of the deck has shown up, just main decking more "free" cantrips (Manamorphose, Street Wraith, Gitaxian probe), maindecking the 4th Empty the warrens & just putting 15 Island's in the sideboard. This wishless version has showed up more than once, AND, is also the highest placing version, currently holding a 2nd place back on July-15th.
Reading through this thread (and the price tags), I've realized one thing about legacy/modern/vintage (or any eternal/non rotating format..wizards really needs a new term for them) is that building one deck usually drops the price of entry on every other deck, putting together maverick and then suddenly the price of Goblins dropped considerably for example. Putting together RUG for example gives you the manabase for most U/R Show and Tell decks (minus City of Traitors and Ancient Tomb), the spells for most every blue deck in the format, and goyf.
I still think that legacy will run into a problem with avaliability in a year or two (barring a large group of players simply off loading their staples, dunno if that would do anything), whether Wizards will do anything we shall wait and see (willing to say that they will but they did make modern, so who knows)
I remember ~8 years ago the cost to get into legacy was ~$600, $800-900 for a top deck, now look at it, I hope this doesn't get any worse or it'll seriously deter new players from entering the format like Vintage ><
While there are less new players getting into the format. Its not like existing Legacy players are going anywhere anytime soon. The SCG Legacy opens are going to be strong as long people's collections don't catch fire.

Haha, I actually laughed -good point. I guess I notice it more since Australia doesn't get the same scale of tournaments or support that the US does.
I didn't realise there was an availability problem in other countries. I guess a lot of people in the US acquired cards when they are cheap and continued to play the game even when cards got super expensive.

To be fair the cost of buying a house has doubled in the same time period. Inflation will account for most of that price increase. Its common for the price of something to double every 10 years. Magic is also a collectible and luxury. Also legacy decks can still be had under $600.

Thank you for the regular updates, Feline_o1! Another one of the invaluable threads here on MTGSalvation, I greatly appreciate the effort you put into compiling this list as it helps keep tabs on "the meta" and lets me steer people to budget-friendly tier 1.5'ish contendors.
Zombardment is in. BTW, this list is awesome. Why isn't it permanently fixed near the top of the page like the monthly legacy tourney? I expected it to be up there, an almost missed it when I scrolled down the page.
This is the sort of thread that is of interest to everyone, and yet you're not really supposed to respond to it. That leads it to artificially sink down the page even as many people read it. Can we get a mod to look into this?
Great works guys, and keep it up. Much appreciated.
