As others have said, the main draw to UW is three-fold:
Manabase consistency. Blanking Wasteland as a way to lock you down feels really good.
Simplicity in card selection. You have all the tools you need just in UW to deal with almost anything. It's not necessarily as powerful, but you can cope.
Mishra's Factory. Cheap man-lands are what Stoneblade wants, and this is the best one in the format.
Quick question involving the UW version. I notice a lot of these decks run 22-24 lands, but none of these builds use a stifle/wasteland combo? Is there any specific reason why? I'm just seeing available slots for stifle and wasteland to fit.
Stifle itself isn't quite as good without the tempo game plan. This deck isn't about that life; we tend to go long usually.
Hence why also wanting 22-24 lands or so to make sure we get there. I'm guessing that's why Wasteland isn't played all that often; UW players like the rock-solid mana-base. I guess you can spare 2 slots for Wastelands. Idk about the 4x though. Give it a try and see. I have a harder time recommending Stifles. But try it. Who knows?
Reprints the one card that people point to when saying that art objectifies women.
Well done Wizards.
Liliana does not objectify women in any way at all. We have gotten to a point in our society that every single picture of a women must be objectifying a women in some negative way......blah blah blah.. That is not the case. (((Sarcasm)))Picture of a girl drinking a milk shake, must be sex related and putting women down, picture of girl sitting on a beach, picture of a girl driving a car, picture of a girl on the moon at a new space station.)))
You have a picture of an attractive strong power women who girls dress up as for anime conventions. What more do you want? The picture is fine, happy to see a reprint. Sick of of seeing people claim that everything in existence must be putting women down. Then all I have to do is replace the word "women" with anything else to get the same mentality; fish, cats, arabs, blacks, jews, men, environment, whites, chinese, old people, etc. It doesn't matter what word I put in. Stop sucking life out of everything man. That artwork of her is awesome. Stop putting stuff down man. Just stop. If the picture was really as negative as you claim she would totally nude, in a kitchen, making sandwiches and giving blow jobs. Her abilities would be horrible as well. +1 do nothing -2 do nothing -6 do nothing. Instead liliana of the veil is an amazing planeswalker comparable to jace, the mind sculpter with great art to appreciate.
My suggestion listen to some comedy radio for a while, pandora is free, youtube is free there is something out there for you. ***** go make fun of somebody. The whole world is so serious and campaigning for some cause, or someones rights, everything is a hate crime, racist, sexist. blah blah blah.

I have heard vague rumors of a moustache-dispensing vending machine in a distant laundromat, across the street from a tattoo parlor. However, this information is shaky, and time is of the essence.

Hello all, I'm getting back into legacy after a five year absents, and I've decided I'm going to build a U/W/x blade deck. I haven't not however decide which verion to build. I like esper, but because I think it gives you a lot of options, and it sees like one of the strongest deck in the format, (the other two being rug delver, and show and tell and all their variants.) I am also looking into deathblade as an option. The mana seems greedy, but the card pool is to overpowered to overlook. I assume everyone has experience with one or both of theses decks, and I was wondering if I could get some advice. I have a lot of the cards (minus the land) for both decks and right now I'm just trying to figure out which better suits me.
For some back ground: I think permission is key in legacy, but supplementing that with discard seems a better proactive game plan. Ideally I'd run 4 basics, because I think losing to wasteland, blood moon, back to basics, etc. is unexceptable. I like having the ability to be either the control or beat down player, and I think the best version of the deck would be able to do that without massive pilot strain.
Also I understand if this not the place for this post, and if it isn't ignore this. Thanks.
some explanation
1 Glacial Fortress: No 3rd tundra to pack in. =/
2 True-Name Nemesis: Beater, as i cant play Lindering Souls. Give me the possibility to play like an normal Stoneblade if our oponent dont care about our B2B and/or Verdicts
1 Elspeth, Knight-Errant: no 3rd Jace and seemed very good against opposing liliana and as a replecement to Lingering Souls
Want your opinion guys on this list and whats your thoughts on this build with B2B and Verdicts.
I'm currently playing UWr Miracles but wanted to try something more agressive like Stoneblade but don't have TNN. Is there any point in building a more control oriented version with Lingering Souls and Humility or should I just forget about TNNless Stoneblade? I haven't seen any such list doing well but it's pretty close to SB Stoneforge + Batterskull that can be sometimes run in Miracles.
I know Shaheen Soorani did pretty well a few SCG Invitationals ago with a "Classic" Esper Stoneblade list. That list consisted of Lingering Souls x3 and Intuition. No TNN. It's much like the lists that Vidi and Tom Martell ran. Vidi's and Martell's are considered outdated/"classic." They still work fine, IMO. There are upsides and downsides to them. No TNN means your creature match-up is slightly "worse," but Lingering Souls does kinda make up for it. TNN isn't even that good against Combo decks. So it's not a necessity. Humility is good tech main/sideboard. Stoneblade is a fairly versatile list.

List looks pretty good. You can try running Snapcaster, Venser, or Vendilion Clique if you want. I definitely think you have room to run some copies. Though more creatures conflict with Supreme Verdict, I suppose.
I just got started on tournaments (very good players inside) and got some experience about often played decks there.
So i built a UW Stoneblade-Control deck with more counterspells and less creatures: Building a good solid mana base
and killing them with TNN and Equipment or even Jace.
Unless you're meta-gaming towards a specific meta, I think 4x Counterspells and 4x Spell Snares are a bit much. I think you can bear to cut 1-2 from bot of those slots and either put in Spell Pierce or Supreme Verdicts from the sideboard. From there, you'll have more space to add other cards to the sideboard.
For starters, no grave-hate, when you definitely should have a few...try putting in a few Rest in Peaces. You also have options like Nihil Spellbomb, Relic of Progenitus, Tormod's Crypt, and Surgical Extraction. Mess around with those. I'd say go 3x grave-hate of your choice.
You can also side a Humility or a Back to Basics if you'd like. Even Vendilion Clique. Sword of Feast and Famine is also worth trying in the board to combat combo decks.
If you have space left over, you should put whatever counters you cut from the main in the side. Flusterstorm is also a very good option to board.

I'm not entirely sure what it is exactly you are asking, so Idk how to best answer it. But some general things. Deathblade is more aggressive and proactive. You kinda jam all your guys onto the board and try to overwhelm them via card advantage and board advantage. If you fall behind, you do kinda get screwed a bit. Not much permission in this type of list. I'm referring to old lists with things like DRS and Bob. I think these days people shy away from Bob and run TNN. It does allow you to better use Force because you don't have to worry about flipping Force over with Bob and taking 5. And TNN is blue.
Either Esper control (True-Blade or Martell's/Vidi's lists -- or combine both) works. It's sorta permission-based along with some aggro and has discard. Or you can run UW, which has better land base, more counters, and can run Mishra's Factory/Wasteland. It's also very good against Blood Moon.
Honestly, the best advice I can give you is to play test with the different variations a bit and see which you like best. So far I think Esper is fine for you, since you like counters and discard.

After reviewing the deck list above I like what you are doing but I would advise against counting on TNN to much and protecting him with counterspells. While the idea of controling a match with counterspells seems good you will be limited (by mana and CC) early game and most likely will be pitching some of your counters for a force. Also with a deck like small threats can really add up it does not take much when you are counter heavy and the I would be nervous about not having a board sweeper MD. I feel that the top decks out there such ad DnT and the mirror will really expose a counter heavy game plan. Those are just my thoughts keep testing and if it works maybe this is a new take on it.

Thanks for the answers @Titus and @Jedi - i "liked" them.
Especially the points
• Feast and Famine
and
•board Sweepers
are good point.
But what board sweepers e.g. do you mean? Okay, i have Supreme Verdict in my sideboard - maybe i let find it a way to my MD, but what else would you suggest?
That's it. Just run 1-2 main. If you have room/feel like you need more you can run some more Supreme Verdicts in the side. Engineered Explosives is something to use too if you like. Then you can run Academy Ruins for some nice locks. I'm not a huge fan of the lock though.

I've been doing some experimentation with Esperblade recently for fun. Like Shaheen Soorani I decided to play Lingering Souls over TNN (and I own a playset so it's not for budget reasons), but with a couple differences. I play a maindeck Humility and a single Elspeth Knight-Errant alongside Lingering Souls to compliment the power of Humility. It has worked well in test matches, especially versus delver decks as well as TNN decks. Zealous persecution also works wonder from the sideboard when Humility hits, as it acts as a sweeper and pumps my tokens. Equipment like Batterskull becomes bigger under a Humility which is hilarious, and Elspeth keeps pumping out tokens. I don't know if anyone would like to try this kind of build, but breaking the symmetry of Humility has been fairly powerful overall.

I too have been experimenting with going back to lingering souls over TNN in the MD with a single Elspeth. This was after I had success at a recent tournaments running TNN, Lingering Souls and Elspeth in the same MD. I think running all of these at the same time made my deck a little to unstablebut more explosive and able to rebound from setbacks better. I had not thought of running Humility MD and that seems like a natural fit for the way I was going. I am curious do you have any testing results against other decks like Shardless or Deathblade? I do believe we may need to find a way to work Elspeth back into the main decks she is really pulling double duty as she offers protection from lilly in decks running TNN

I typically play versus Delver decks, mostly Bug versions and occasionally dark maverick or deathblade. They have no way to get rid of humility once it hits, since humility cant be abrupt decayed and qasali pridemage cant use his ability. Versus maverick I have to make sure teeg doesnt hit first with mom protection, and versus Bug its about getting Humility and using brainstorms defensively if I have it in hand to protect it from discard, then resolving it. I do however have a 1/1 split between humility and supreme verdict, so I have some other out for board control. I think humility is really strong, and this is one deck that can actually break the symmetry with lingering souls and Elspeth plus batterskull. This did mean no more maindeck vendilion clique because of this route, but I put the cliques in the sideboard specifically versus combo, with the exception of sneak and show in which I bring in cliques with humility as extra insurance. Lastly on the note of deathblade, they do play Jace sometimes still as a 1-2 of, and Jace can still kill you, so be prepared to handle jace. In this case this is where Elspeth really shines.
Quick question involving the UW version. I notice a lot of these decks run 22-24 lands, but none of these builds use a stifle/wasteland combo? Is there any specific reason why? I'm just seeing available slots for stifle and wasteland to fit.
I have played the UW version in a couple of tournaments, going without Mishra's Factory, with 3 Wastelands and 2-3 Dazes, and it's been ok. I might try the Factories next time. Stifle is straight-up bad in this deck though.
Good to hear from first hand trials. I really want to run Daze in this deck. The surprise factor of daze in a blade shell seems fun.
I slimmed my Spell Pierces to run a singleton Daze for a long time, and it worked pretty well, and if it showed up in game 1, they would always play around it in games 2 and 3, after I had boarded it out. I simply cut it because it was a pretty cutesy and cheesy thing to do, and I found myself wanting the third Spell Pierce back main deck as more Sneak and Show began to rear it's ugly head in my meta.
I'm not a huge fan of Liliana in Esperblade, I'd rather see more copies of Clique or some True-Name Nemesis. Having more blue cards to pitch to Force is also relevant. Your sideboard seems a bit heavy on grave hate, although that's really a meta call.
i am fairly new to legacy and have the basics for stone blade
3 mystics
3 snapcaster

1 true-name
1 baleful strix

i am getting 2 forces and another mystic but any other suggestions for what duals/fetches/utility lands i should use
thank you
thanks, but i don't prefer daze. I also took out black for cost reasons.
i am thinking about adding in green or red by using plateaus or savanah.
green = shardless agent, kotr, goyf, sylvan library,
black = discard, lillie, souls, strix, pycotog
red = REB, lavamancer, blood moon/mangus of the moon, fire/ice, bolts
i personally think you should run 1 less tnn, and add in 1 more snap caster and 1 more clique. It has really been successful for me. I think you should cut the dazes for more pierces and or snares, but thats a meta call. Sideboard looks good, but theres a lot of storm/sneak and show hate in the board. cut 1-2 mages for 2 rip/surgical extraction. This deck has lots of problems with graveyard decks. Maybe try 1 venser and 1 swan song. But other than that it looks good.

Definitely. I've been playing the following list to good success:
4 Flooded Strand
4 Tundra
3 Island
3 Mishra's Factory
3 Scalding Tarn
2 Plains
1 Academy Ruins
1 Karakas
1 Marsh Flats
1 Mystic Gate
Creatures (12):
4 Stoneforge Mystic
4 True-Name Nemesis
2 Snapcaster Mage
2 Vendilion Clique
3 Jace, the Mind Sculptor

Has this been tried or am I just wasting my time? Appreciate any input.

Hence why also wanting 22-24 lands or so to make sure we get there. I'm guessing that's why Wasteland isn't played all that often; UW players like the rock-solid mana-base.
I would point you to Shaheen Soorani's deck list having talked to him several times he will be your oracle for ESB that is not running TNN as he just plan hates that card. Here is his last placing deck list

That's it. Just run 1-2 main. If you have room/feel like you need more you can run some more Supreme Verdicts in the side. Engineered Explosives is something to use too if you like. Then you can run Academy Ruins for some nice locks. I'm not a huge fan of the lock though.
Good to hear from first hand trials. I really want to run Daze in this deck. The surprise factor of daze in a blade shell seems fun.

i am thinking about adding in green or red by using plateaus or savanah.
green = shardless agent, kotr, goyf, sylvan library,
black = discard, lillie, souls, strix, pycotog
red = REB, lavamancer, blood moon/mangus of the moon, fire/ice, bolts
