That sketch keep. Was it late and you just zoned out?
G2: I was wrong about needing k-grip. I lose because I was impatient in p-fireing a deathrite, and got my fires surgicaled and having thespian stage needled. In hindsight I should have just waiting till I could recur after casting to protect myself from surgical
+2 K-grip, -1 Thicket -1 Depths?
G3: He gets an early needle again, and I'm sort of stuck. I have an exploration and I apparently missed a second land at some point to K-grip his needle earlier than I could have. I lose to an active Jace and pressure from goyfs. Lots of misplays on my part, heh.
Maybe tracker is ok in this MU?
0-1
R2 vs DnT
G1: Goes a while, but I have loam and expo and jam ML until she runs out of StPs (I end the game at 79 life)
+4 K-Grip +2 Tracker
-1 Manabond -1 Thicket -1 Glacial Chasm -1 WL -1 Port -1 something else
(no idea what I'm doing here)
G2: T2 RiP. Eventually just die to beats I had the T1 gamble, maybe should just gamble for grip instead of loam off the bat? My one chance at a ML gets Fiend Huntered, because I made it to block a Batterskull. Maybe could have taken the hit from Batterskull, then made ML end step. But I don't think it would have mattered TOO much, since it would have gotten Fiend Huntered anyways. She would have just sat at 4 life.
G3: T2 RiP. I eventually get a gamble K-grip (again maybe should have T1 gambled for it). I k-grip and am working to getting some kind of loam engine going. She casts cataclysm on like.. t4 of turns. I keep a Maze, she keeps Batterskull, the germ and a land. We were almost to time when I gambled for K-grip. Maybe I should have just gone for a Depths, as I had stage on board already and just shoved the combo.
0-1-1
R1 vs Eldrazi (The reason I can't play miracles at my lgs anymore)
G1: He goes T1 eye Mimic. I T1 Mox Diamond, forest, exploration, grove, loam. He T2 wastes my grove, no other plays. I dredge some stuff and WL him out of the game. Eventually find a p-fire for his 2/1. and he scoops with no permanents left on the board.
G2: I have another pretty explosive start, I think something along the lines of double diamond loam. I crop rotate for a stage, and he keeps me off the combo for a few turns just drawing WL. Eventually I shove the combo through.
1-1-1
We talked after, and he boards in Leyline of the Void and Helm combo in this MU. Lol.. He thankfully didn't have T0 leyline any of our games.
All in all, it was fun. Lots of lines that I completely forgot about. I was just mindlessly jamming combo. Really unsure about the boarding. It felt nice to smash Eldrazi to pieces after getting rekt by them on Miracles for the past few weeks. I did miss blue today though.
R1: Shardless BUG (2-1) -- Might technically have just been BUG midrange, since it had Snapcasters. Goyfs, Baleful Strixen, DRSes, and planeswalkers all definitely showed their heads in our games tho.
Zuran Orb bought me time in G1 to blow his TWO true-names up with EE. I fought back from 1-life to take the game. G2 he tempo'd me out as I misplayed and I blew a EE on my turn when he had the 2 mana up to Golgari Charm for the regen. If I had timed that right (fogging due to the tap clause on golg charm), I think I would have won that game. G3 I wsa on the ropes, then a wild 20/20 appeared and my opponent died.
R2: Tezzerator (0-2)
Worst match-up for Lands, ever. I knew what she was playing and what I was in for when I sat down, and while I managed to drag the games out, it wasn't remotely close.
R3: Miracles (2-1)
G1 I flooded out on mana-producing lands without meaningful interaction. G2 I stuck T1 and T2 Chalice on 1. He played a couple turns further before scooping. G3 I again stuck a chalice on 1 fairly early (T2, but he pondered T1 and landed SDT T2). I worked tocut him off white mana, eventually K-Gripped SDT, and made Marit Lage rise from the Depths just as time was called.
R4: Maverick (1-2)
We ended up tied 1-1 and were in a tense G3 where he naturally drew his 1-of thrun and slammed it, and then followed up with Knight of the Reliquary and Thalia. Knight prevented me from racing with Marit Lage (it could fetch karakas), and the thrun soon had a Sword of Feast and Famine making it untouchable as it came through for the last 6 points.
R5: Dredge (2-1)
Lost without too much contest in G1. Games 2 and 3 both came down to a fast tormod's crypt accompanied by academy ruins recursion. I was really amused when it dawned on me that hangarback walker was a decent SB inclusion in this match to nuke bridges, but [sadly] the crypt recursion rendered that irrelevant.
R6: Jund (1-2)
My opponent was bemoaning facing two previous Lands players (one of whom was Sparki) today as he sat down. He didn't yet realize what I was on and I tried to avoid worsening his day. Of course, I then revealed my deck choice and crushed him in G1. G2 I kept an okay hand that needed some "get there"... and it didn't get there. I fumbled around for turns trying to find enough lands to cast and sac EE for 2 in a single turn. I died to 3 5-power goyfs
G3 He revealed that his SB was far more hateful than I had believed and I immediately regretted leaving my K-Grips in the SB. He opened with Leyline of the Void and my hand of loam, p-fire, and the like was quite grave-dependent. I rocketed up to 6+ lands in play, waiting for a mox diamond or crop rotation to provide my 4th colour so that my EE in hand could answer leyline. Alas, it was not to be, as I was Helm combo'd out on turn 6 or 7. (!)
I somehow was a bit happy for my opponent all the same, because when Jund faces 3 Lands decks in 6 rounds, you kinda gotta recognize that the fates owe him one after playing that joke on him. He also suggested great tech for Aluren (my other main deck) to run verses Eldrazi (Ophiomancer).
Overall, the match-ups were predominantly favourable on paper, but I think I'd have done better with Aluren. My binge on Aluren for the last year+ definitely showed through, because my plays weren't as crisp as they should have been and I'm sure I lost more than just that one game vs BUG to misplays. Overall the build I ran felt good though, and I brought in all of my SB cards at different moments through the tournament. Uba Mask was brutal in some of the SB games <3

Also went to the CFB $1k and saw ER there.. I finished 3rd. 56 players showed up to play.
My matchups:
R1: ANT 2-1
G1 I die on T2. G2, I mull to 6, find no hate and decide going to 5 is pretty sketch and keep a hand with exploration/loam/port/mox diamond. T1 diamond -> Loam pass. He probes me, goes Dark Rit x 2, Cabal Ritual, Ad Nauseum. Flips a bunch of 1 mana cantrips, two infernal tutors and a Dark Petition and dies. Neat. G3, I chalice@1 T1, waste a tropical island and cast revoker naming a lotus petal he just cast, which he cracks in response, then Intution for Trinisphere/Sphere of Resistance x 2 and get a SoR. Cast that, tolaria west for another chalice and chalice 0, then loam back and tutor up depths. He later tells me tropical was his only green source (He had went to discard and pitched ancient grudge), and the revoker cutting petal was crucial. I'll take it.
R2: Goblins 1-2
G1 I combo out on turn 4 after making 4 land drops. G2 and 3 I get overrun with lackeys and instigators, along with Goblin Settler. Some number of rest in peaces along the way as well as magus of the moon.
R3: Eldrazi 2-0
G1 he mulls, and keeps a 6 and goes T1 chalice@1. He is very creature light and I kill a mimic and start wasting all of his lands. He chalices@2 to cut me off loam, then chalices@0 as well. I cast my CMC3 crucible of worlds and destroy all his lands, then cast intuition for marit lage pieces and play those with crucible too. G2, I keep him off mana again, Abrupt decay an Endless One along the way and topdeck a Mox Diamond at a perfect time, giving me enough mana to bait his wasteland EOT and combo out for the kill.
R4: Jund 2-1
G1 Punishing fire and EE keep the field light of threats, I combo out pretty quickly. G2 goes a bit slower, and he gets to hardcast a leyline of the void against me, with a helm following up next turn. I had boarded in Chalice of the Void in anticipation of Surgical + double duty on DRS + bolts, but quickly boarded them out for some grips. G3, he mulls to 6 but has a turn 0 Leyline. I kept a Turn 4 kill with a crop rotation. We play land go for the first 3 turns, i EOT grip the leyline, and then crop rotate for the kill the next turn. He said he boards two helms because so many decks like miracles board in RIP against him turning off Pfire, DRS, goyf that it's nice to just land an oops I win CMC 4 spell that's hard to counterbalance.
R5: Shardless 2-1
G1 he mulls all the way down to 5, hymns me and hits two lands, I have an EE lock going as I EE2 away a strix and goyf, and he scoops. He was never really in this one. G2 I can't control double deathrite with a few goyfs and am one mana short of getting around double wasteland for the combo kill. G3, he has the advantage with T1 deathrite, into strix, and I durdle on a slow land + crop rotate hand. He eventually casts a goyf, and swings with strix, which ends up costing him as I EOT cast the crop rotate, and he fetches and brainstorms looking for the force and can't find it. He later shows me he boarded out two FoW so chances of that were slim. I don't think I could've won that game if that spell didn't go through. It would've been a big uphill battle.
R6: ID with Burn
I'm 5th going into Round 6 in standings. I'm the second highest placed 12 pointer at 4-1, and I get matched with a 13 pointer. I go ahead and ID with an extremely small chance to not make it as burn is sketch anyways, and end up making 6th place going into top 8.
Quarterfinals: Miracles 2-1
Let me start by saying game 1 took 52 minutes. This match was a GRIND. I had him on EE lock very early and was ghost quartering all the basic plains, but ended up misplaying and it cost me. I had exploration and a bunch of lands, I loam back double wasteland and go to waste his karakas and tundra which I was pretty sure the last two white sources in the deck. He floats double white and entreats for 5 and I can't do anything about it. I should've just wastelanded one, moved to combat to either force it or probably just win, and if he goes for the entreat, I can intuition for triple life from the loam and loam back my glacial chasm and still have the land drop for it. Ugh.
G2, I have an early exploration again and start making a bunch of land drops, he's fetching basics the entire time. I have a revoker naming top on T2, which does a lot of damage, but dies to a flashed VClique. He eventually casts From the Ashes, which in response I copy his basic island with a stage, keeping double mox diamond + Stage + forest, letting me rebuild. I get exploration loam going again, and get EE lock back online, recurring it in response to a RIP, blowing up counterbalance and RIP with EE2, then having my second copy in hand to keep up the lock. I ghost quarter all of his basic plains, and 2 or 3 tundras, and I am certain he cannot entreat anymore. I finally find a copy of Rishadan Port 30 cards deep into my library, and copy it with 3 stages. I then go to quad port him off of jace mana for the rest of the game and he scoops saying he has no way to win.
G3, I have a double mox diamond start with a chalice@1, followed by a T2 Revoker. I have explosives and exploration as well but no loam. He disenchants my chalice and takes some revoker hits before blocking it again with a VClique. I find a loam and tutor up ghost quarter again, but in response to the first GQ he entreats for 3, which I respond to with EE0, losing both mox diamonds. I had found academy ruins too, and had brought back my revoker naming JTMS, but he STP's it, and I punishing fire it in response and he counterspells. Not a bad trade. At some point in time, I have a crucible + GQ, but he Unexpectedly Absent's it 3 cards deep, which I get back by dredging 3 again the next turn. I get him down to zero plains, zero tundras and just 4 islands and start double porting. He fetches his last tundra, casts a RIP getting my ghost qurter an explosive and a couple loams, but it's okay, as I cast trinisphere, wasteland the last tundra and tolaria west for Dark Depths, which is clear to go for the kill with no white mana remaining.
Semifinals: Goblins 0-2 (Same player in the swiss)
This again! Very similar to the other games in the swiss, I was just never in the game. I can usually answer the first lackey or threat, but multiples are really hard to beat, and Settler is such a beating. I'm glad it's not a very common deck, and that settler is an even less common card in the deck. I got wrecked. I don't really have much to board here either, which sucks, but I think I'll take my chances.
hey so i'm thinking of getting into legacy, would you suggest starting with lands?
Nah, start with something easy on the brain like Death and Taxes.

Any thoughts on Nostalgic Dreams? Probably a one of. Great deck, great posts and just getting into the deck figured I'd add a suggestion from my collection.
hey so i'm thinking of getting into legacy, would you suggest starting with lands?
Usually people start with a deck that is less reactive. Correct play in Lands varies greatly from match to match, so if you are not as familiar with the format your results will suffer. Not only that, but you will like!Ely comp!Stephanie miss what you are doing wrong (or not doing right. Legacy is a format where you will get blind-sided. However, the more knowledge you have, the more often you can stop this before it starts. In the meantime, a deck like Eldrazi, Burn, or Merfolk will allow you to steal some wins as you are learning.
If you jump right into Lands, you are going to face z difficult learning curve. This is okay if you are up for the challenge. The more you read up about the format and it's various competetive decks, the more easily you can settle in.
Experience also helps. When I started Legacy I had over a decade experience playing high powered casual with many old cards. I was familiar with fast combo and prison decks, as well as many of Legacy's powerful engines. I'd played (or played against) Enchantress decks, Belcher decks, High Tide and Storm decks, Land destruction decks, Stax style decks, etc. The more familiar you are with older cards and powerful engines, the more easily you will adapt to the Legacy meta.
Any thoughts on main decking something to deal with enchantments? My met has become mostly Miracles and Lands and the Miracles players are packing MB hate in the form of RIP, Back to Basics, and Needles.

I'm on the RUGx version
How many explosives are you running? There was a time when I was running 3 maindeck.
- 4x exploration
- 4x life from the loam
- 4x crop rotation
- 4x punishing fire
- 4x tranquil thicket
- Glacial chasm
- Bokuja Bog
- Ghost quarter
- 4x Tolaria west
With eternal master out O'll try to get my playset of wasteland, maze of ith, and one karakas. Then I'll move on to a playset of dark depth and Grove of the burnwillows. A friend of mine can lend me Tabernacle.
My question is, now that I have the most expensive piece of cards to buy (Rishadan port, biland/fetch, moxes) what should I aim first? Which list should I try to build first that could cost me less money? (I thought of the GR list, that brings taiga, as the less expensive biland)
Thanks for your advice
Deck really needs port, so get those or borrow them from a D&T player. I'd put up for the set of moxen next since they fix mana easier than duals and can aid in explosive start, playing off the draw, and sb games. Lastly, for duals I'd get taiga(RUG runs 1-2) then trops if money is an issue. Use breeding pools in the meantime.
RG should be cheaper than RUG because of the lack of blue duals, but it also depends if you get 4 depths or not and if you use 4 groves.

ray of revelation was a card I did run, but there are now two miracles players in my meta; worm harvest does so much work.
I even had one miracles player ask me if worm harvest exiles itself after I retrace it...

Smokestack and Worm Harvest are insane against miracles. G1 should be EE lock as the main plan, IMO.

I got that combo off once...
I only run one EE but it did work at CMC = 5 against miracles to get his counterbalance.
I play two MD plus tutorable with west. They can't interact with it well and it kills all of their threats. Anything cmc 3+ is usually fine. They run a few 3's but it's generally a safe spot unless they get lucky. Most don't run any cliques main unless on the legends build in which case they're even weaker to wasteland. They usually play just one council's judgment and entreats as 3's now.

Oh okay. Wanna help me build it? You seem like you're quite knowledgeable in this game called magic. Actually maybe we can meet up some time and you can show me the ropes

Welcome to the format, and best of luck!

Yeah! RUG Lands feels a lot tougher than RG Lands when I'm on Miracles, but it's definitely a fun MU.
I'll probably be there for the grinder tomorrow, but doubt I'll be at the 3k, because of father's day.

How many explosives are you running? There was a time when I was running 3 maindeck.

It would be nice to get back explorations and stuff, but dredging it feels awful.

Play dirty and use Ray of Revelation if EE is not enough.
Nahiri, the Harbinger?
the white might be awkward but I run a savannah for thalia, guardian of thraben out of the SB.
however wide it seems: recoup coupled with regrowth?
ray of revelation was a card I did run, but there are now two miracles players in my meta; worm harvest does so much work.
