i ment with cutting the combo; reducing a mangara or 2 and a karakas or maybe 2.. i cant cut the combo compleetly cos its 2 sweet to go without.. just the settisfaction of killing my opponents lands is godly
Keeping AT LEAST 3 Karakas allows you the Mangara lock, protecting your own Thalia, and screwing over your opponents legends. I don't think anyone here would reccommend going down to two.
I only SB out the SFM mystic package against combo - when Jitte is rendered useless.
The stoneforges are generally worth keeping in against combo. Batterskull presents a large amount of damage very quickly, and the life gain can be quite relevant vs some combo decks (e.g. Belcher, ANT, TES).
Pros:
Survives Bolt/ Vendilion Clique
Can cast at instant speed
Don't need to wait until end of turn for some things
Cons:
Harder to get off of Vial
(Flickerwisp can be instant speed with vial)
Not waiting till EOT can hurt...
Costs 1 more
Frenadol has tested a Restoration Angel (24 land, dust bowl, flagstones, Jotun Grunts) build with success at the local level, though the Restos have not yet placed in any large event. Check back a few pages or search to find the details and discussion.
Additionally, if you need to protect your Thalia/Canonist/Revoker from bounce or removal vs. combo, the Stoneforge Mystics can tutor a protection sword to equip to your creature.
And as Medea suggested, Batterskull lifegain is highly relevant as well.

Flickerwisp has 10 times the utility of Restoration Angel, and costs less (in particular, it costs something that we won't feel bad about setting Vial to)

To play devil's advocate (though, I totally agree with you): Restoration Angel dies to not lightning bolt. Nor abrupt decay.

You don't play Resto as an alternative to Flickerwisp. That would be stupid. Resto is a utility creature with ways to protect itself just like Mirran Crusader, and it's a capable finisher. In metas where having 4 thoughtness and 4CMC creatures is a great thing Resto is the best of the available options.
Restoration Angel works best with multiple copies of Flickerwisp in the deck, so I don't get that comment over whether she's better than Wisp or not. They're different and have different roles to play.
It's a great card for reducing the deck's dependence on Vial, and provides a solid and resisntant to removal creature to carry an Equipment. Having Flash is a big deal against decks that run planeswalkers like Liliana, and so is the evasion. It also resets and bounces nearly everything in the deck, and can protect our own creatures if needed, something Wisp cannot do without a Vial. I like having redundancy and multiple ways to do the same job in this deck, while having radically different cards to do that.
TL;DR: Restoration Angel DOES NOT compete with Flickerwisp. It even gives you more reason to run a full set of Wisps, because they're fantastic with the instant bounce.
I know Frenadol has tested a Resto build a bunch. I tried it as a two of for a few weeks. It does have the ability to set up some re-donk-u-lous plays especially in conjunction with Flickerwisp. It has great synergy with the deck, and I can guarantee you it will catch your opponents off-guard. However, in the end I took it out. It seems that there are usually more important things for me to do with my mana than leaving 4 open so I can flash in an angel during my opponents turn.
I would echo the sentiment that Restoration Angel is almost, but not quite deserving of a slot.
A card I'm interested in testing at the moment is Stonecloaker. It seems there are lots of Punishing Fire and Life from the Loam decks in my meta. Might he be a good maindeck critter? I understand he has been used in the past.

I've even thought about Whitemane Lion. Vial can stay at two and can act as a free counterspell.
What are people's thoughts on the Castle? Have you ever actually used the ability? I'm thinking about swapping it out for a Plains
I ran it for two weeks and it allowed me to make a few favorable attacks that were bad otherwise. Ultimately, I decided that I liked a basic land more.
1WW, 2/2 First strike, lifelink, red and black spells cannot target...
It looks like a really good card. Protection from Punishing Fire and Abrupt Decay. No Evasion however and doesn't hit as hard as Mirran Crusader. Competes with Paladin en-vec, Mirran Crusader and Serra Avenger.

This card is not playable in our deck. The protection of both Mirran Crusader and Paladin en-vec is much more relevant than this pseudo-hexproof ability. This is a case of it's close, but not better than what we already have.

I'd say its an improvement over Paladin en-vec. No one plays that card however despite its immunity to removal as it cannot get past a goyf wall. I fear this card suffers the same affliction. Its a really good card but I fear its not quite "there" as well.
I think the lifelink makes it a SB card against jund, burn, and aggro in general!
This is true but the functionality is too narrow considering it can't be tutored. Batterskull fills that niche, among the several other things it does.
Still waiting for a beater that is pro green and pro red. Now THAT might be too killer to pass up, even if only beats for 2.

I played as lot with Frenadol when I lived in Beijing, though I wish I'd been able to play more often with him. It's a very special metagame out there, with a lot of fair decks. It doesn't surprise me at all that he did well with Restoration Angel.
This is partly because Frenadol has the kind of skills that can make Squire look like a solid creature.
This new 2/2 doesn't look so appealing to me. It's Paladin en-Vec, with lifelink instead of protections that will impact the board. I'd rather keep my Mirran Crusader. Last tournament I managed to get a Batterskull equipped on my Mirran Crusader. I won that game.
For those of you who like Fiend Hunter, how would you like a 2/2 instead of a 1/3?

Creature - Human Cleric
When Banisher Priest enters the battlefield, exile target creature an opponent controls until Banisher Priest leaves the battlefield.

Well I don't like that you can't potentially use it with flickerwisp as a stack trick.

Yeah, what's up with that? Is it a core set simplification? Let's not confuse people with the stack (hell, it still confuses me...) and print half a Fiend Hunter.

While now I agree that Angel should not replace wisp, but should work along side with wisp. Maybe as a 1-of?
