I was quite happy to watch that last match. I've always had trouble with RUG Delver in our metagame, and it was good to see how to play around a lot of their business. I've been running the Chandras for awhile now and every game I've resolved one I won due to the card advantage it generates.
I've been flipping between Chandra and Koth myself. I'd be curious to see if there is a consensus on which is the preferred choice since they do different things.

I run Koth because while I can go nuts with CA, I often find myself hiding behind a bridge and need the damage. Also I run 3 Magma Jets and can scry on top of my SDT's
I've been playing mud for a while now and just saw this deck at the open. What are the advantages of this over mud. It seems more consistent, resilient to counter magic and can play a grindy game as a plan b if the painter combo doesn't work. The one thing I don't like is it seems weaker to combo decks. Am I right? Wrong? Any help is appreciated and this deck looks like something I want to play going forward, thanks for the advice.
It is weak to combo, but that's what the sideboard is for. And perhaps it's just me, but I find the beatdown plan has been the primary win con with the threat of combo.

Yea, Rakka Mar is a great card for that. But the main point of the deck is that you have a prison deck with a combo finish. Moon, Bridge, Peacekeeper (Shortcake version), Jaya and blasts. I win more games though locks than I do though Combo. This is an Anti blue combo control deck. That's what it does and its good at it.
That's one way to put it. Here is a better question, how many basics do you see played locally. If the answer is 10 total over 25 people, this deck is the way to go.
my meta has been all over the place, a lot of storm show and tell variants, reanimator and, of course, a lot of delver so i dont think either of them are very good but im moving soon and the meta there has a lot less basics.
For Storm I run Canonist, SnT I have maindeck blasts, Reanimater I have RIP and delver I have Bloodmoon. For finding this I have E Tutor and Imp. I have outs for most of the decks you have listed. Of them I would say Reanimater is the hardest to win, but that does not mean you can't beat them.
The most common deck is storm which is a laughable matchup for mud, sneak and show and omnitell are both pretty good and reanimator isnt an issue, the only thing that i have a hard to winning is uwr delver on the draw because they have a lot of counters for chalice on 1 and bug delver because they have a higher curve. Still undecided but would much rather be loaded up on blood moons against bug decks stone/deathblade and stuff thats prevalent at the new meta
Well something else to think about is the cost of 4 Imperials. They are worth more than Force and played in 2 decks only. If you have the money you could build this, but if your already doing ok with what you have then maybe this change is not for you.
thats the only issue, i already have 4 city of traitors and most of the other stuff between modern and my jaya edh deck but the recruiters are the main reason im hesitant
Anybody here going to SCG Milwaukee on the 6th for Legacy? I'll be rocking the deck, and was looking to compare and contrast lists with those who might be going.
It's not great. I mean yes, you have burn on legs, but its nothing that most combo can't just Bounce and then kill you. While I think that it will see some play, I believe that making spells cost more is more effective than hitting them in the face and hoping that works.
Granted, if your Mono Red, please, drop this guy across from Elves. I am myself and Elves player and this just reads "You need NO now or lots of pain is incoming"...

Two big things in Eidolon's favour over Canonist (against Storm, at least--it won't stop OmniTell, which is a big thing against it) are that it doesn't die to artifact removal (Shattering Spree, Meltdown, etc.) and it doesn't die to Deathmark. (A Massacre-proof mana base is also neat, and not dying to Virtue's Ruin can be clutch.) TES needs enchantment removal (Reverent Silence, Revoke Existence), bounce (Eye of Nowhere, I guess?), other board wipes (Pyroclasm, Drown in Sorrow, Toxic Deluge), or other spot removal (Oust) in the Wishboard to deal with it.
True, but I always tend to get my things bounced not killed. If I am going off "This" turn, I can care less what non Counter or burn cards you have in your hand. Though I can still see him getting some use mostly in the Mono red builds. If your playing Enlightened, I would say stick with Taxing.
The other thing to keep in mind is that he is going to hurt you too. This is big if you are trying to hide behind a Bridge against something like Sneak and Show. Yes, your going to hit them when they Cantrip, but then you can not stop Brand hitting you in the face without taking damage each turn.
Will he see play? Yep. Well he do his job? Yea I guess. But if Pillar was not already on your radar, I am not sure how much you want this guy.

If you're already hiding behind Ensnaring Bridge, Griselbrand can't swing unless you have 7 or more cards in hand (which is fairly unlikely in Imperial Painter). The best Grissy can hope for is drawing into bounce/removal.
If you cheated in Bridge at the same time that they cheated in Grissy, and Grissy won't budge...better find Jaya Ballard fast.
Don't think I am totally shooting down this guy. In my Mono red build he will find a place as a one off in the side. I just feel like overall he offers less than other answers. Granted most of those other answers are White so he will have to at lest be tested since he is good at what he does.
I wish though that Wizards would start giving Red some more flavour. "Just make it hit them" is getting boring. The way we can draw of late has been handy, but Red is still trapped in the "Deal direct damage and little else" stage of its identity and I wish we could see it grow a little.

The final match was really good http://www.twitch.tv/scglive/b/505964108
If wizards would print a green, black and white version of Hydroblast and Blue Elemental Blast Painter could be done in every color.
