You're playing a 3 color manabase that is very mana hungry (trying to cheat in higher casting cost spells earlier). Blowing up your own lands is not what you're trying to do, you're not trying to tax their resources, your aim should be disrupting them and ramping into better spells.
You run 6 ways to deal with the Cage (5 maindeck) with Deed, Pulse, and Pridemage. You can also Therapy / Duress it out of their hand on the play, adding even more reasons to not be afraid.
Grats on your Taiga! That's a big win.
How have the 4 walkers (specifically Garruk) been working out?
Thanks for the report, but why no Birthing Pod? It seems odd to choose this deck and that creature curve without it. Granted, not having it makes you less vulnerable to Grafdigger's Cage, but I've always found Pod to just win games if it lands.

Hey new to the thread and the deck just put together this list any help and advise would be great. I know I'm using shocks instead of duals it's temporary
What do you guys think of using Scute Mob as a one of in this deck? The lands are easy to get, it's easily tutorable, it's basically a 5/5 for 1 when the deck sets up. Only problem i see is Deed wipes it out over and over.
He seems very vanilla but it would be nice to be able to Birthing Pod a token creature into something useful in late game, I will say that. Aside from that situation, if I already had 5 lands out I'd be looking to do something bigger.
I've got a radically different list, building with a common Legacy card that just wins by itself: Dark Confidant. Running 3 Kitchen Finks to help support it (which are always wonderful even without Confidant) and plenty of potential sac outlets (Tower, Therapy, Deed, if necessary-Pulse). The idea is that the deck should run fine whether or not you can drop and kill your Explorer. Confidant helps with that. The turn 2 threat that says to most decks, "counter or kill me or you lose" is pretty effective. He makes the deck more interesting, that's for sure.

1 [JGC] Deranged Hermit
4 [RAV] Dark Confidant
1 [FD] Eternal Witness
1 [CS] Ohran Viper
I don't think adding MORE high cmc stuff to a confdant list is a good idea, lol. That said, I'm glad this guy brought Hornet Queen into the discussion. She is an interesting alternative to Deranged Hermit. Has anyone tested her?
EDIT: NEVERMIND, she costs 7. I thought 5 for some reason. >.<
Everyone loves Bob, but he does not belong here. Nic Fit is a toolbox aggro/control deck, and the only creature that should even be approaching 4-spots is Veteran Explorer. We have a good amount of 4-drops+, so he will kill you a lot of the time if you don't have a Top or Library out. And yes, he will be eviscerated by Deed every time.
Mikaeus seems really cool and funny but I think just the fact that not all the creatures are humans is enough to say no to him. Maybe it's possible to take out every human(xcept witness of course).
I found a quite interesting card that is another potentially awesome Academy Rector target. Pattern of Rebirth. The deck doesn't have to stretch to sacrifice the creature you put it on sooo it seems good to me. Rector has been really good to me, so I'm probably not going to cut the white from my deck. I've even been running a single Animate Dead and it's been really good. Grabbing stuff out of an opponent's grave is super relevant if they're playing dredge or reanimator.
Also Yosei the Morning Star has been my favorite 6 drop bomb other than Sun Titan. Yosei is relevant against all types of decks and usually immediately causes them to scoop unless they're dumb.
EDIT: On a sidenote, I just played my first mirror match today. Never again. It was long, painful, and unrewarding. I don't even care I'll instantly scoop and give them the win.
Hey guys I really loved this deck archetype since I saw it a few months ago and I am really interested to go into Nic Fit and play with it some big tournament but I have some doubts:
1st: How the deck is behaving with and without Birthing Pod?
Some months ago the majority of the list was using birthning pod but now a days I dont see it anymore. Why? Still worth run Birthing pod?
2nd: I dont know if I will play with splash white or not. Play with 3 colors is some thing to be afraid, I studied some lists and didnt find any SOLID mana base but white have some cards that i think make a difference ( Qsali, Swords to Plowshare, Academy Rector, Gaddok ). What do you think about use or not splash white?
Thank you very much and sorry if was hard to understand what I wrote, my english is not that good.
I was a huge fan of RecSur back in the day and am looking into getting into Legacy again. I was going to go Maverick, but this deck looks hella fun and makes you think. Few questions though:
Gaea's Cradle - seems this could allow a crazy amount of RN'ing per turn. Especially w/ Deranged Hermit.
Bloodghast - ability to have a reusable Pod/RN target seems pretty good.
How is the Maverick matchup? And the Punishing Maverick matchup?
I actually played a Nic Fit deck at my local a few weeks back twice (once in rounds, again in top 4). I run B/W 'blade, and I won both matches on the strength of targeted discard and removal. One of the strongest plays I made was (Me on the play) turn 1 StP on Veteren Explorer.
Landing Mirran Crusader is incredibly powerful as well, and I had the Vindicate backup to take out his Pernicious Deed (without the ramp he couldn't drop and pop).
@NavyJoe, I think I'd prefer to have Strangleroot Geist over Bloodghast. It can block, and GG is more reliable than BB considering the fetch base and Dryad Arbor. Although, I don't know if you're going white splash or not, I'm building GBw. So that biases me somewhat.

I was thinking about it and realized that you play with other colors of creatures, blue, white and black so you depend on Birthing pod because you cant search them with zenith since zenith search for green creatures only.
I think Pod should be a 2 of at a minimum. But isn't SDT a psuedo library manipulator in this deck as you are shuffling at least once a turn w/ fetches, GSZ, Pod, Rector, etc.
