I run 3 Arcbound Ravagers to avoid flooding out with him, but I usually like having him on the field. He's particularly good if you're running 4 Mox Opal and are playing against any sort of removal spell or Batterskull.
What are peoples thoughts on Chief Engineer? it seems like it could be awesome for the swarm builds since you can use your creatures you just summoned for extra mana, I feel like you may be able to replace drum with this or use it as another version of drum in the deck.

I will be typing up deck lists as soon as I an be bothered, I really only play EDH:
honestly, he feels like a slightly worse version than springleaf drum. its awesome that when he comes down you can basically drop your hand but he seems slower than drum by a turn at the start. but thats only what i can see from first glance. it would need to be tested. of only he was colorless. then affinity would be even better

It creates a lot of plays for the early game, removing the need to choose between specific spells. If you have a lot of small ones, you can cast them all, and potentially even gain mana through zero cost spells.
Turn one and two it does some really spectacular things, like playing Cranial Plating in addition to a swarm of creatures, or even a big play like Master of Etherium or Etched Champion, without having to sacrifice a Mox Opal. Untapping turn two with multiple creatures out and a Cranial Plating or Master is a lot of pressure.
Late game, it loses it's luster, but it's still a 1/3 that can carry a Cranial Plating.

Everyone knows that good luck and good game are such insincere terms that any man who does not connect his right hook with the offender's jaw on the very utterance of such a phrase is no man I would consider as such.
So I'm relatively new to legacy and I've decided to go with affinity due to interest and inability to afford dual lands. A local store has legacy nights and I have never been before. I'm wondering how well you think this deck would perform, and what changes I should make to make it more competitive. (I own all the cards but the sideboard which I am so lost on. I feel like I have no idea what to prioritize sideboard slots on.)
A little reasoning on the one of stoneforge and steelshapers gift. I feel like I always need a cranial plating in hand and it ups the count to 6. Also they help me get my one of jitte which I feel like I need when I play my friend who plays elves. I have no clue how effective this package is in a tournament environment however.

I was testing out Atheros, God of Passage but in the end he seemed a little too win more. Sometimes he would work, other times he wouldn't. I would like to add Baleful Strix to the list. Any suggestions, tips? Thanks again and its great to be a part of the Affinity community!
I'd drop a 4th frogmite for a 4th ravager. he is too good to skimp on imo and multiples in play is fine, just makes your guys herder to kill as a whole. i've actually thought about baleful strix in the list for a while now but haven't tested. i run a singleton Bob in my list and he is fantastic. strix isn't as easy to cast so id prolly suggest minus the last 3 frogs for another drum and 2 strix but thats just at first glance. list as a whole looks good.
i have an IQ on the 20th so ill let everyone know how that goes. i'm running 3 probes for draw and info so hoping it helps
Yes I totally put
I play tested this all weekend, and Dreadnought here is a ton of fun. Like I said before, I got God hands with turn 1 and turn 2 Dreadnoughts and promptly would win right afterwards. But there were games I won off the back of the normal suspect of cards as well. Stifle in those games save me tons of times, like stopping Emrakul and Girselbrand triggers or my favorite Liliana's -2.
I'm having a blast with this deck.
Sounds like fun. I'm gonna have to give this a serious test myself > sounds like a great direction to take the deck for a bit of fun.
Although to be fair, it does look like the deck will lean on blue a bit more, making opponent Land Destruction a bit more... effective?
I've noticed some people are ignoring Arcbound Ravager in their builds and choosing to ignore them. Why? When is it alright to not have Ravager in your list?

So I've been trying out the Phyrexian Dreadnought / Stifle combo.... and I'm having 2nd thoughts.
Sure, it's great to have it pound face, I'm not arguing it's not effective when it works. I'm just finding the Nort-combo to be a glass-cannon type situation.
I should add, I've been playing with Affinity for a fair while.
Mulling for the combo generally nets us a poorer first turn (which is this decks strength normally).
As topdecks are generally terrible, and all mana-sources love Wasteland, so our blue sources are always gonna be threatened if they know we're on Nort.
One of the strengths of Affinity in my mind, is that discard generally has few options to hit as we drop most of it on T1/2, and we can exert pressure early by not needing to mull very often.
So to you guys who have been testing out the Nort combo;
Do you mull for it often? How low have you gone to find it?
How often have you found the Nort-combo parts getting removed, countered, discarded etc., and how often have you been able to recover from this for the win?
Hey! I had a quick question. The current colors I'm running in Affinity are BU with a splash of W for sideboard purposes. But I feel like I could make the deck stronger with a red splash (I.E. for cards like Whipflare). What do you guys think? Is that a good combo for the build? What cards would I add from red?
^^^ drum and glimmervoid usually are good for both. if you run more colors of red and white in board or main then you could just run a set of glimmervoids. i run as little color as i can. just mainly for tezz and thoughtcast. so i run ancient tombs to beast everything out quick

In all honesty, a Affinity build would just be much more consistent if it ran a swarm of small dudes rather than one large dude that depends on other cards to work. I mean, if you really need conditional 13 power on turn two, you might as well just hit with three small dudes, one carrying Cranial Plating. The combo seems too fragile and prone to removal. Affinity is weak enough as it is against other decks post sideboard. Going all in on one 13/13 seems to just be a waste.
Also, thank you offtheropes5! You've been really helping my list out. What I meant by my original post about the splash of red was take out white completely and replace it with red. Perhaps with Whipflare and Galvanic Blast. We do lose Ethersworn Canonist though... does anyone else have any other red splash suggestions?
I've also been testing Chief Engineer. I personally like him alot, but maybe Legacy isn't the place for him. My best play was turn one Mox, Land, Memnite, Chief, then Ravager. That's five cards gone from my hand, the other two being another land and Etched Champion. From there I had fuel to win the game, but my hand got exhausted super fast. I don't know if thats a good thing or a bad thing. Basically, if you can drop him turn one, he's good. Otherwise, he's pretty mediocre, since you might as well just pay mana for your spells. He also doesn't help Thoughtcast resolve. Those are my thoughts on him.
^^^if your chief engineer was a springleaf drum, you still could have cast ravager turn 1, and be able to sac it to ravager. plus we want to attack with our guys, and if they have summoning sickness then we can just use drum with em anyway. and yeah the artifact count goes down which goes against tezz plating thoughtcast and ravager. with the push of artifacts in this core set, i'm hoping our deck gets a good bomb from the next set cycle.

Agreed. Springleaf drum is just much better. We do need some more explosive spells.
So I have drafted up a couple of list possibilities for my own build. I'm taking it to a tournament this weekend and would love some feedback on which build seems stronger. The first one is my current list:
I thought of adding Galvanic Blast, but Chalice would really shut it down. I love the power of Whipflare though. It decimates Elves and other swarm decks. Any thoughts?
I use one copy of Zealous Persecution in my sideboard instead of Whipflare. It's a little harder to cast but it hits True Name Nemesis as well as Elves and other swarm decks.
I like Soul's Fire > think it's a great alternate win-con, especially combined with Tezz.
But because Tezz already covers the alt. win-con requirement for an aggro deck, and because the turn we equip plating it's unlikely we could actually cast Soul's Fire, I don't think I'll be running it myself.
If Soul's Fire was 1R or R I might though.
so this is random. im really into testing this and if i'm lucky enough within the next weekend or so i'll let you know, but thoughts on a possible new sb card in stain the mind? we can easily get one black and if for example the deck we play has 1 or 2 bombs like sneak and show (getting the creature) then not attacking so we can cast the spell and hope it resolves seems like a fairly good plan. i know here lately that show and tell decks have really gone to the sideboard plan of cheap red spells that wipe the field of small creatures. plus it works well with other scary decks i'm sure. grab a tendrils or empty the warren from combo if time permits, or some other problem cards we feel needs to be gone.
It's an interesting option. If any deck in Legacy could use Stain the Mind it would be Affinity. I'm not sure that it's better than other sideboard options. But it's worth thinking about and testing. My concern is that while it seems best against combo decks, most of those have multiple ways to combo off. Sneak and Show has both Sneak Attack and Show and Tell. Reanimator can use Reanimate or Exhume. Charbelcher can use Goblin Charbelcher or Empty the Warrens.
I think I just prefer the Oblivion Rings in my sideboard that I can lay down off a Show and Tell or just side in against decks that I feel I need extra removal for.
