I apologize if this was asked before. I've done some google searches but only come up with old posts (as in a couple of years old). So, to my question:
Short answer: "No". Long Answer: When SnT resolves, the emmy and the PI enter play at the same time, but the PI choice is made before they both actually enter play, neither the emmy or the PI is on the battlefield yet when you have to make the choice. Since emmy isn't on the battlefield yet, you can't choose it to copy.
That's what I thought. And just to make sure, the new Legend rule would not let us remove an Emrakul by copying it right? The legend rule doesn't come up often for me so frequently am unsure of how it works when it does.

Out of curiosity, anyone have any links to Merfolk vs omnitell matches? Its surprisingly hard to find any and I was looking to study up on the matchup before I play in a tournament that is heavily populated by omnitell players.

When I played it, which was admittedly a while ago, it was pretty straightforward. Maybe no one bothers to record what they did since it is pretty much the same thing every time? Put pressure, counter anything that lets them put omnicience out or cunning wish. What can they do? Then board in spell pierce, maybe flusterstorm, (arcane lab tech?), (standstill used to be good, too).
Basically, good deck choice for that meta. Watch out for elves!
So far, I played modern for an eternity, and now I want to try out legacy.
I decided to go with Merfolk, since I own half the "core" of the deck from modern already,
and I liked the play style so far.
Now, since I am completely new to legacy, I have no idea about the meta and how to play any matchup
I think I will suck hard the first few months, but that's ok I guess
Now, the reason I post here is the following: I noticed that a lot of lists are missing Daze lately, and are
playing Chalice of the Void instead. Why is this ?
How did the meta look like in which you played daze ? How does it look now ?
What are the current opinions about Wasteland ? I read somewhere that "Wasteland is very good with daze."
Now, I understand that, but are you playing less Wasteland now that you are dropping Daze ?
And do you change other cards as well, like Swan Song and Relic of Progenitus ?
How are your matchups changing with this ? Where are you better / worse now ?
All of those questions are answered in this board. You just have to pick a number of pages for which you have the patience and read.
The last 30ish pages more or less have those answers.
I'll try to summarize what I think about the Daze-Wasteland thing.
So Daze+Wasteland is good because
1) Daze is good in the early turns of the game (stone age). Past that, they can pay the tax.
2) Wasteland keeps the game in the stone age.
But this is not a powerful thing to do in itself. If all you're doing is Wasting and Dazing, you're just trading 1-for-1 so you're not necessarily getting ahead in the game. One obvious way to make this strategy powerful is to pair your Daze-Wasteland package with cheap threats to beat down with while you're keeping the opponent in the stone age. This is the strategy of RUG Delver.
Theoretically, another way to abuse the Daze-Wasteland package is to use Aether Vial. The idea being that by the time they come out of the stone age, Aether Vial's "artificial mana" will have built a board presence for us that they won't be able to overcome in time.
The problem with this I think is that without Vial, Wasteland and Daze are underwhelming, and we only open with Vial 40% of the time. When your deck runs multiple 1UU creatures like TNN and Vendilion Clique, it gets worse.
So instead of playing this strategy that's "win more" when we have Vial, and underwhelming when we don't, we use Chalice of the Void which is great at leveling the playing field against the Brainstorm decks.
You also ask how the meta looked like in the Daze-Wasteland days VS now. Don't quote me on this because I am new to Legacy, but my guess is that the Daze-Wasteland strategy has become nonviable in Merfolk with the printing of Delver of Secrets and Deathrite Shaman.
The printing of delver and shaman weren't great for daze/waste/standstill but we had to stick with it mostly because we didn't have a better gameplan to transition to. The real last straw was the printing of TNN, leading to a chain reaction towards current builds. With TNN, we want to reliably make our third land drop and force it down through countermagic, so wastes got cut to 2x and in came the caverns. The printing of the delve CA spells made the meta lean towards cantrippy builds more than ever, and with daze not looking great with our reduced waste count anyway, out went the dazes and in came the chalices.
I still play Daze and Wasteland in my list. They are the most important tempo cards in the deck and this is a tempo deck.
Don't you find it a bit clunky with so many UU creatures we play? Does has it happen to you that you draw a Wasteland but wish it was island instead because you have some UU Merfolk in hand but can't cast because of its double blue cost?
Honestly, no. I have hardly ever had that issue. I play 12 Islands and 3 Caverns. I added an extra island because I was worried about mana issues that did sometimes pop up and make things difficult but aside from that my deck plays pretty smoothly. Maybe I'm just lucky? But I have played the deck for almost two years with the 3/3/3 split being the best performing one I've used.
I can foresee a resurgence of Elves and other non-blue decks... so I might go back to some number of Submerges and or Hibernate in my SB. Elves has always been one of my worst matchups. They can easily win through a Chalice-on-1 and can push through Force of Wills.
My prediction (copied pasted from the source), we'll see how it pans out:
My prediction is that (i) sneak and show will replace omnitell, (ii) RUG/BUG delver will replace grixis delver; (iii) miracles will be a larger share of the winner's metagame.
I can also death & taxes and lands being better positioned now. Maybe Elves too, I'm not sure: they suffer against miracles.
Overally, I think this is good news for merfolk I'd say!
I have to think a bit about how to change my sideboard a bit (for instance, maybe spell pierce will make a come back)
I will go to four phantasmal image too, now that there are more sneak and show and less fork bolt. I think 3 relic is a must in the SB now that BUG/RUG is back.
Im just a bit more concerned about Goblins making a comeback because even if you stop their lacky, the Piledriver is nearly impossible to deal with, also Jund is making a comeback too and it is not favorable.
Managed to place 2nd at a small Team Legacy tournament my team held and I wrote a report. I messed up so hard in the last round. Videos of round 3 and 4 are included inside: http://www.mtghashtagdreamteam.com/?p=740#more-740
Wasn't that impressed with Chalice at this tournament in general. Should I be boarding it out vs Stoneblade variants? It was awful when I was on the draw vs the deck and didn't even draw it vs them on the play.

I don't have any comment on 2 Standstill, just thinking about that sideboard and how "different" it seems.
I wish Davide Marcotti himself would come here, or anywhere, and explain how good his sideboard was.
I have been trying Day's Undoing and if it resolves, especially with a Vial or two on the board, it is completely stupid. Sure, you give your opponents some cards, but they can rarely abuse them as completely as we can, especially with 4 Cavern.
Null Rod is because of the MUD and Painter decks in my local meta, and it can be a fine addition against Goblins and DnT if you don't hit early vial and they do.

How does it work if someone casts Show and Tell and they bring in an Emrakul, the Aeons Torn while you bring in a Phantasmal Image? Can you copy the Emrakul?
Thanks.

Also trying a variety of mana bases, e.g. Islands, 4 Cavern of Souls, 4 Mutavault as my base, but then opting for maybe 2-4 Wasteland.
This is my build at the moment:
4 Cursecatcher
4 Lord of Atlantis
4 Master of the Pearl Trident
4 Silvergill Adept
4 True-Name Nemesis
3 Phantasmal Image
2 Meerow Reejeray
Lands (20)
9 Island
4 Cavern of Souls
4 Mutavault
3 Wasteland
4 Aether Vial
4 Chalice of the Void
4 Force of Will
2 Day's Undoing
1 Umezawa's Jitte
2 Grafdigger's Cage
2 Back to Basics
2 Flusterstorm
1 Submerge
1 Manriki-Gusari
1 Null Rod
1 Echoing Truth
1 Pithing Needle
1 Relic of Progenitus
1 Hurkyl's Recall
1 Umezawa's Jitte
I have used Venser, Shaper Savant and Vendilion Clique in the side as well, especially Venser, but for right now, I like this.
