I'm pretty sure there isn't a thread for this specific version of Stoneblade. If this belongs in another of those threads, if someone could point me there that'd be swell.
I've been doing really well with this against a wide range of decks. It beats most of the fair decks and I've also done very good against several Delver variants and Miracles. Does alright against combo, with the sideboard mostly dedicated to that match-up.
Thoughts on it? Anything I could to do improve it? I'm no legacy grinder but I like to be competitive with my friends. Thanks in advance.
Why no Goyf? You're running green and it fits with your plans of beat down. And I could swear the problem with Junkblade was that it couldn't deal with combo elves and d&t.
All my cards do stuff. Goyf just goes "rawr smash". Deathrite is grave interaction, ramp, life gain, and non combat damage, Bob and Stoneforge are card advantage, Mom keeps key creatures around and makes sure they survive to get equipped, and souls are evasive, better on the defensive often, and work better with equipment. Goyf doesn't really do much compared to the value all of my creatures give me; he'd add more punch, but I haven't needed any more punch yet at the cost of value.
I've beaten D&T more than I've lost to it so far, but I've only played like a handful of games. I'm sure I could easily get mana controlled out of a fighting chance, just like sometimes I go turn 1 Deathrite Unanswered into Hymn into Thoughtsieze.
Haven't played Elves against someone, fished a few games against myself and while I was unfavored, I had the ability to win.
I honestly really like this deck the way it is. I do like Vindicate over Council's Judgment though. Outside of that, I'd certainly cut a land or two and a Liliana and squeeze in a set of Wastelands.
Thanks for the additional feedback! You guys are all awesome! :3
Knight of the Reliquary works with utility lands true. If I had Karakas it'd look better. That said, I'm not in the market for non-evasive fat dudes. A 5/5 or 6/6 for 3 can be countered or sniped before it grows doesn't grab me honestly. If I was going for an annoying 3 drop, I might try Aven Mindcensor.
Wasteland is a powerful card, but I'd rather have color constancy. If I played it, I would need to mulligan more. I'd be more vulnerable to discard/counters on Deathrite screwing my mana, as well as opposing wastelands. Sometimes I lose out from not having them, but I often find I don't really miss them. The threat of Wasteland from other opponents keeps other decks honest in their mana bases, so I don't really always need to be the one with them.
As for going down to 19 land, that seems a bit much for me. 20 is already very slim when I need 3 mana sources, and I need specific colors as well.
Council's Judgment deals with True Name and Nimble Mongoose, Vindicate doesn't. I don't find sniping lands better in the main deck than hitting those threats.
You are clearly playing on budget and you shouldn't justify your choices by using these kind of "statements".
I wouldn't play wasteland anyway. My friend offered to let me use his, and I said "no thanks".
Knight I wouldn't play without Karakas. Until it was mentioned above I'd never thought about playing it with Knight in my deck before. My gut says "nah", but maybe I would.
Budget has literally nothing to do with what I said above.
Most of the later iterations of the thread above are Junk, most especially for Deathrite. I used to have it built, and was certainly fun to play.
Your assessment of Goyf is spot on. I had 3x Wasteland in my list, but I think it had 22 lands (basically a spell at that point).
Random Possibles: I think that I had Sylvan Library or Sensei's Divining Top (I switched back and forth) in there. I'm not sure if they were necessary, but it certainly helped to smooth out the draws some.
He just argues against expensive cards because his play group doesn't own them and he probably can't get them.
Anyways I love flavor of junk and we can discuss his choices looking at latest Pikula and Maverick lists.
2x Mother of Runes ? No other hatebears for combo ? Only 2x Thalia sideboard, 1x Gaddock, no tutor ?
3x Lingering Souls ? Do you fear Liliana of the Veil ?
No Green Sun toolbox ?
No Cradle ?
No Karakas ? Show and Tell...
No Wasteland ? You discard a lot but you lack tis kind of disruption ?
...
Ignoring the budget statements which I've already corrected you on (my group has all tier one-two legacy decks);
Moms been good. Maybe I should run more.
Souls is good vs TNN, Goyf, and Grindy decks. Best card to equip with swords.
Mom, Stoneforge, Bob, and souls can't be got with green suns.
Cradle does nothing for me.
Maybe I'll play a Karakas. Although Lili and discard are already good against them
Wasteland strains the mana base. I don't want it. It's strong, it's cool, it's not for me.
My deck isn't trying to be "better" than anything. It's my deck. I wanted to build junk stoneblade, not Maverick or anything else. If I did I'd have posted in that forum. If you wanna talk about those decks go there.
@Nihils: I do want to try 1 Library, maybe cut a Lili for it. Seems really good for helping in filtering and setting up Bob.

It is funny to hear a deck worth thousands of dollars called budget.

Seriously, stop this budget non-sense.
It is humorous that the only 3 posts you have made have been to trash his deck, though.
