THE LIVING END, IS A DECK FIRST PLAYED BY TRAVIS WOO SUCCESSFULLY. IT'S BEEN ESTABLISHED SINCE THE BEGGINING OF MODERN FORMAT WITH VARIED RESULTS. NOW I AM TRYING TO TAKE IT TO LEGACY.
I'M ONLY GOING TO INCLUDE IN THIS miniPRIMER THE NEW CARDS LEGACY CAN GIVE THIS DECK, ALTHOUGH MODERN CARDS DISCUSSION IS ENCOURAGED AND APPRECIATED.
THE MAIN PLAN
LIVING END IS AN AGGRO/COMBO DECK (AS DREDGE) THAT CYCLES GUYS INTO THE GRAVEYARD USING THE CYCLE MECHANIC MAINLY, FINDING ON THE DRAW IT PROVIDES THE 3 CMC CASCADERS. THIS CAN FIND ONLY ONE VALID OBJECTIVE (LIVING END) WIPING THE BOARD AND BRINGING BACK ALL THE DUDES FROM THE GRAVEYARD.
THE SIDE PLAN
AS THE CYCLING MECHANIC MAKES YOU SEE MANY CARDS OF YOUR DECK, THE HIDDEN JEWEL OF THIS DECK ARE THE SIDE CARDS YOU CAN INCLUDE. WHEN THE DECK IS NOT TRYING TO ENABLE THE COMBO, IT WORKS AS A MIDRANGE DECK WITH SOME STUPID BUT BIG DUDES.
PROS
- VERY RESILENT AGAINST ALL AGGRO DECKS EXCEPT MERFOLKS. IT'S INSTANT WRATH OF GOD OBTAINED BY THE COMBO (CASCADE+LIVING END) MAKE IT VERY GOOD IN AGGRO/MIDRANGE MATCHUPS.
- GOOD VS TRUE-NAME NEMESIS AS YOU CAN KILL IT BY ENABLING THE COMBO.
- GOOD VS SENSEI'S DIVINING TOP/COUNTERBALANCE AS THE LOWEST CMC IS 3 (IGNORING LIVING END).
CONS
- WEAK AGAINST GRAVEYARD HATE,IF PLAYED FULL COMBO.
- WEAK AGAINST BLUE-BASED DECKS, WITH TONS OF COUNTERMAGIC.
- WEAK AGAINST MULTIPLE WRATH EFFECTS.
Unmask and contagion version, plays heavy on black cards to enable their utility. Unsmask is mainly thought to be casted right before the combo, and contagion can slow an explosive aggro matchup such as elves. Faerie macabre is mainboard to weaken Tarmogoyf, and also to weaken the 2nd resolved living end. This version is the most balanced between the combo pieces and the mana base, although it is really weak to blood moon. On the sideboard we include ricochet trap for dealing with the blue matchups.
Bluish version that supports force of will as the main combo protector. Same plan, new palette. Still YOU LOSE THE POSSIBILITY TO CASCADE AS AN INSTANT. There is the possibility of running back to basics in this compilation adapting the mana base. I have my serious doubts about fulminator mage, maybe that's the right spot for it.
At first i thought that demonic dread is black for unmask. On a secord thought i think shardless is more appropriate for the heavy blue version, and keep the demonic on the jund versions with the dryad. The mana bases get really screwed tryng to play 5 colours.
